Michigan is headed to the Frozen Four, as they beat Clarkson 2-0 tonight. Kevin Porter had a goal and an assist for the Wolverines. Wisconsin also won their first round game against Denver, so Kyle Turris's season continues as well.

Wisconsin's season is over after losing in OT to North Dakota. It will be interesting to see if Kyle Turris now signs with the Coyotes.

Kyle Turris, the Coyotes' No. 1 pick in the 2007 draft, signed an entry-level contract today. The third overall pick in the draft, he will join the team for practice Tuesday.

Turris, 18, a center, played this past season at the University of Wisconsin.

More details later.

Keith Ballard and Peter Mueller were added to Team USA's roster for this year's World Championships. Kyle Turris will center the top line with Mueller and Doan for tomorrow night's game. Not bad linemates for an NHL debut. And finally, the Coyotes have signed Nick Ross, their other first rounder (30th overall) from the 2007 draft. He'll start out in San Antonio, who are on their way to the playoffs.

i went to the game last night for the first time this season and that fight was awesome. they showed a close up of his face hitting the ice and he ate it hard. crowd was going nuts.

that fight almost turned the game around for the coyotes too. but too many stupid/lazy passes did them in.

he got in another fight later in the 3rd but it was more of a draw and they ended up going to the ground together.

I watched Thursday's game on TV, but I could clearly see Barch get clocked by Carcillo and it almost looked like he hit the ice head first.

Now, I read this from last night's game:

Also out for the Stars was RW Krys Barch (slight concussion).

Carcillo is a worthless player. Fans like him because he can fight, but in the larger scheme of things he is an unskilled player who cost the Coyotes numerous times with rediculous penalties. In a real hockey town he would be a goat, not a hero.

Not worthless, but maybe in need of some discipline. He fill a needed role on the Coyotes.

Well, Tampa Bay won the draft lottery, aka the Stamkos Sweepstakes. Thanks to getting a handful of points in their last few games, the Coyotes will pick 8th.

#8 picks since 1997:
2007 - Zach Hamill
2006 - Peter Mueller
2005 - Devin Setoguchi
2004 - Alexandre Picard
2003 - Braydon Coburn
2002 - PM Bouchard
2001 - Pascal Leclaire
2000 - Nikita Alexeev
1999 - Taylor Pyatt
1998 - Mark Bell
1997 - Sergei Samsonov

There are a handful of good players there, but not exactly what one would hope for from such a high pick (and the list for the most part gets worse if you extend it to the early 90s). With a handful of extra second and third round picks, I wouldn't be surprised to see the Coyotes try to move up a spot or two.

By the way, here is the Kyle Turris shootout goal from the last game of the season. He might already have the best wrist shot on the team, its unreal.

WOW!

That was incredible. Never seen someone do that before. Seriously, that was viscious. What goalie is gonna be able to react to that.

Well, Michigan was beaten by Notre Dame in order to advance to the Frozen Four finals. As a result, Kevin Porter, Chad Kolarik, and possibly Chris Summers will probably be signed by the Coyotes soon.

Kevin Porter is the 2008 Hobey Baker Award winner, as the NCAA's top player this season! :fans:

Kevin Porter was signed by the Coyotes today, and is now headed to San Antonio to play against Toronto in the first round of the AHL playoffs. His Michigan teammate Chad Kolarik was also signed. Now just waiting to see what Blake Wheeler and Chris Summers want to do.

Kolarik had a hat trick (with Porter assisting on two of the goals) as San Antonio tied their series 1-1 with Toronto by winning tonight 6-3.

Nice article on Dusty Collins, the Gilbert native and first year pro for the Arizona Sundogs, who are the Coyotes CHL affiliate.

David Spina (another Arizona product) scored his third goal of the postseason for San Antonio, but they lost 3-2 to Toronto. Their first round AHL series is now tied at two, with game five set for tomorrow.

San Antonio lost Game 5 of their playoff series 2-1, putting themselves down 3-2 in the series to Toronto. Recently signed Chad Kolarik picked up his first assist of the playoffs.

Also, Shane Doan will again captain Team Canada, who are defending their gold medal in the World Championships.
