This team doesnt realize that they need to win NOW. Draft picks alone arent going to save the team

this season is already done - olli had one more season before becoming a FA - it didn't work out with him being here so they made a move

lombardi is a nice player and many think the flames overpaid

i'm fairly critical of the organization, but think they made some smart moves today - they'll need to have a good offseason this summer and MUST jump into contention out of the gate next year

Best player? Jokinen was a real disappointment this season.

I think this was a great deal for the Yotes. Lombardi is a solid player with upside, Prust is capable of being a solid addition and they get a first on top of things.

Can't do much better than that I don't think.

Prust is damaged goods... broken jaw and out w/ a concussion. He may never be the same if he ever does come back. Lombardi is decent player and Ill be happy to see him w/ the Yotes. The Coyotes cleared up some cap space as well. Not a great deal for the Yotes PR-wise, but it makes hockey sense.

Coyotes also got great value for Carcillo, who was traded to Philly. Its another bad move PR-wise though. Carcillo was a fan favorite and put butts in the seats ...Upshall w/ draft picks wont do that.

Yotes lost Morris today as well... going to NYR for Kalinin, Prucha, and Dawes. The Coyotes lost ALOT of fan favorites today, but got some talent in return... all in all, a good day for a bad team.

I am surprised Morris didnt get moved today. He sat out the game against St Louis and didnt make the trip to Boston for the upcoming road trip because he thought he was being traded. Im glad he is staying in Phx, just hope he can keep his focus the rest of the way.

We traded Morris to the Rangers for Dmitri Kalinin(D), Nigel Dawes(F) and
Petr Prucha(F)

This team is in a total financial melt down, this was a cost move and nothing more. The team would probably sell for 70 million bucks right now. I wouldn't be suprised if they folded to be honest

Same here, i dont know how they expect fans to keep going if they keep trading anyone who plays well.

Turris is probably next in line.. Well get another draft pick for him

not a financial meltdown at all

who did they really give up?!

they got a lot of players for morris - granted they could let them walk, but it seems just as likely they could resign some of them. I would say he's the biggest loss.

Olli just wasn't working out here. It happens sometimes and the 'yotes aren't the first team to get a guy, have it not work and trade him pretty quickly.

Carcillo is an idiot. This team will be better without him taking so many dumb penalties. Discipline is important as it helps establish flow to the game. Even if a team doesn't score (which against the yotes they do score pretty frequently on the PP) they can establish momentum on the PP.

Telli is replaceable with guys in the minors.

This team needs depth and they need another top flight guy to go with doan. It's unfortunate that Olli wasn't that guy. However, it was pretty clear he wasn't that guy.

Very bad PR, but not bad hockey moves at all.

Now if only gretzky realizes he's best utilizes as the executive face of the franchise - it's biggest cheerleader and hire a professional coaching staff things could be going in the right direction.

win and the rest will come - however, you have to win in this market

So, when was the last time this team made the playoffs?

Ugh. Did taxpayers fund that stadium.

Sorry.

they've had more recent playoff appearances than the blackhawks..................

main issue is that the franchise, dating back to winnipeg, hasn't won a playoff series since the mid-80s

america west is a terrible venue for hockey - unfortunately when they moved to the new arena there was a lockout (that cost them an AS game) and gretzky built a slow, veteran team ripe for the pre-lockout NHL and has been playing catchup since

the stadium has helped spawn a lot of development and a lot of tax revenue

Just asking. Sensitive. :)

Blackhawks are going this year. And have a few really good young players. Woo hoo!

hey - i'm a sharks fan so these issus aren't "my" issues - but i'm also a hockey fan who wants to see the local team do well and the sport do well locally ...... that and every encounter i've had with the coyotes organization from ticket buying, game day experience and charitable efforts has been first class

blackhawks are looking good for sure - they have the potential to be a fun to watch, good skating, dangerous scoring team

will be interesting to see how they respond in the playoffs when the physical play is notched up and allowed more

Ill start out by saying I liked every player Phx traded away. I understand the Morris deal... he gonna be a FA at the end of the season and I seriously douby Phx was gonna resign him, so at least they got something for him... although they'll probably only resign one of the guys in the package deal.

The Olli deal I have mixed feelings about. Olli's numbers were down a little, but Doan's numbers are way up, and I think that has everything to do with having Olli on the ice with him. Now that they've dumped Olli, basically the Coyotes traded away Ballard and Boynton for Lombardi, a damaged Prust, and a draft pick. The Coyotes lost in that deal.

Losing Carcillo will probably hurt at the box office more than it will hurt on the ice. I loved Carcillo... win or lose, you could bank on at least being entertained when he was on the ice. Upshall wont bring that to the Coyotes... Upshall is a better player, but he'll never sell tickets the way Carcillo did. And with the current financial state of the Coyotes, ticket sales are probably more important than a couple extra goals a year.

This happens every season, and it happens to the same bad teams every season. Bad teams trade away their good talent at the trade deadline for some garbage players and draft picks. We've been saying every year, "be patient, we have a very young team, the future will be bright, etc"... and yes, we will have a young team again... but how do you get older and more experienced when you trade away your veterans for draft picks every season??

follow the model of a lot of the successfull teams have

load up your system - keep key young players, make the little trades that add quality not big name talent and then try to lure an established guy in a big trade or FA signing

the coyotes though never seem to have a plan that they stick to - it wasn't that long ago they thought bringing in roenick, ricci & nolan would make things great

they use young guys to obtain players who are good, but can't offset the loss of talent due to a lack of organizational depth

they still don't know what style of team they want to put together - a strong defensive team with solid goaltending? - a fast skating team that can score from multiple angles?

what is the foundation here?

also, the blake wheeler incident really stings as i firmly believe if he was playing here they probably would of had enough to get into the playoffs with olli - despite the other mind boggling things that goes on with this group

I don't know how you can't consider the team in a financial meltdown when they had to ask to City of Glendale to let them squat for the past 8 months.

the team has definite financial difficulties - however, i'm pretty certain about 90% of the story hasn't been told with their lease and i'm confident most of the reason behind that is negotiations with investors

however, one way or another, the lease will need to be modified

these trades do not reek of financial motivation though - just a team that has completely fallen apart trying to make some moves

That right there is the reason I won't support this franchise this year. I hope someone in their FO hears that. Because there was no excuse possible for letting him go for nothing to Boston. None.

They didn't let him go. They offered him the max rookie contract and he wouldn't take it. In return, The Coyotes received a compensatory first round pick (so they did receive something). The Coyotes used the pick to select Tikhonov.

So think of it as Wheeler for Tikhonov.

Coyotes did everything they could to sign Wheeler... its all on him. There are plenty of things to get down on the Coyotes about, this however, is not one of them.
