also does it matter that he's supremely skilled?
that's one thing I really don't like about the NHL discipline process
status seems to matter, level of injury seems to matter, etc
if a star player takes an intentional run at the head of a 4th liner than it's no big deal unless the guy is half dead ......... however, a lesser shot from the 4th liner to the star player will be a suspension if the guy falls to the ice too long
seems like if you are consistent with the actions you punish then the overall results are going to fall ......... not sure why they frequently only punish if the result is bad ...... sets the message that those type of hits are generally OK unless you kill someone as opposed to those are the types of hit that can kill someone, so they aren't tolerated
anyhow, refs have done a horrible job all postseason in keeping control .... hard to remember this many fights, this many full on scrums, dirty runs, etc
seems like every game the refs balance ticky tack calls that put people into the box with dirty plays that happen right in front of them that just get a play on
not sure how many players i've seen without the puck get crosschecked and dropped to the ice in the middle of the ice on an offensive play where the ref just let it go
you let players get away with those type of plays and then turn around and call the most minor hooking penalty frustrations are going to bubble up real quick
