I'm generally not a big fan of Collinsworth, but I have to agree with him regarding the QB position. After watching Wilson from Seattle all year, I'm convinced we need a QB with mobility as opposed to the prototypical 6'5" guy with the huge arm, but questionable accuracy. It's very, very difficult to find the next Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Drew Brees (even though he's short). All three are magical throwers of the football. Brees has some mobility, but Manning & Brady can't run a lick. They ARE great, don't get me wrong. But, it may be easier to find a guy like Wilson than to keep drafting the 6'5" statues. Wilson has EXHAUSTED a very good Niners defense. He's so damn elusive that the Niners d-linemen have completely run out of gas.

I know that Plummer drove us all crazy at times during his career, but if we had Plummer this year, we would have won 11 games! The NFL is changing & we need to recognize what will be successful down the road. I's so sick of watching our QB's just cover up & take 12 yard sacks. I'm ready for an athlete at the QB osition, even if he's 6'1"!

Neither grow on trees.

An athletic guy who can throw the ball well isn't found on every other street corner.

Agreed, but that's my point. Maybe he doesn't have to be a GREAT thrower of the ball. Wilson is so special, because he can be accurate & also elusive. Teams stayed away from him because of his stature. McNabb was NEVER a great thrower of the ball, but his ability to be elusive, made him difficult to defend. I've always liked the big, tall prototypical NFL QB. I'm not so sure anymore. Maybe we need a Fran Tarkenton type right now.

Mobility with questionable accuracy? Sounds a ton like Kevin Kolb.

We need a QB with a quick release who is accurate to go with an average st worst line.I don't care if the guy runs a 6.1 40.

I loves me some accuracy.

How bout we just get one or the other...doesn't matter the style, get a guy who can throw the ball & read defenses.

Kevin Kolb is NOT necessarily mobile and he's certainly not elusive. He runs well, but he runs into more sacks than he avoids. I agree that accuracy needs to be THE key, but you can be accurate & still not have a rifle for an arm. Even this kid from the Niners would be a huge upgrade for us.

Too bad we cannot have a Jake Plummer now, and we thought his boo boos early on in a game were bad...our current QBs make him look like an amateur in the mistakes department

looks like the Colts did it with Manning still on the roster

In other words, we just need the best QB availble.

And need to stop drafting guys based on "build" alone. Doesn't count for squat.

Not very mobile? Most scouting reports have his mobility as one of his assets plus he demonstrated this on a number
Of occasions here.

Lmao. I can't believe I have to dignify this with a response
Immobile would define guys like Warner and the Mannings

I'm just waiting for some slick DC to earn his paycheck this summer and put a stop to all this read-option hokum. Then Carroll and Harbaugh and Shanihan are left holding the bag with a dumbfounded look. That's my dream scenario. I thought the option wasn't supposed to work in the pros? Is this really going to be a permanent part of the NFL from now on?

No doubt that Warner & Mannings fit the bill as being "immobile". That is why Kolb is such an enigma to me. Is he relatively quick - yes. Is he relatively fast - yes. Does he avoid sacks - NO. In fact, he runs into them. His pocket presence is awful & he's fragile. If a guy can't use his decent speed & decent quickness to avoid the rush, then he may as well be considered "immobile".

Wilson, Newton, Kaepernick, RG 3, Vick (who am I forgetting)?

I think there is definitely the beginning of a trend in the NFL to more mobile QB's.

I agree they might better fit the need of teams with poor pass pro, so our picking one up might depend partly on how much we think we can upgrade our OL play.

As I said Jeff, I don't want this team to limit themselves looking for strictly a pocket passer or an athletic guy who can throw. Btw, I still think Scam isn't a very good passer & IMO nowhere near the class of the other 3.

Well technically there is a pretty big difference between "not very mobile" and "immobile". Kolb isn't "immobile", but he isn't exactly one of the more mobile QB's in the NFL. He is capable of making some plays with his feet, but not to the extent that teams need to fear it or really game plan for it.

This is what is mind boggling to me. Kolb had that one game which he took off running and was getting major yards. The defense is so confident about sacking our guys, they go after them in reckless fashion with no protection if the QB rushes into the second level. Yet, our QBs seldom ran and the only run we have seen of yet that could be called a scramble, is seeing Feeley get stuffed on a fake field goal.
