Not a dark cloud thread.........im am very excited right now too....that said--

Does anyone find it very eery that the Cards were 4-2 in 2002? They came off a victory against the Cowboys (who were not as good back then ) and were battling San Fran for the division? I remember what happened that year.....we won 1 game after that and Mac got canned.

I dont think that will happen this year as this team is loaded with talent on both sides in a much weaker NFC, but it does show you that things can swing on you in an instant! That is why I have not declared this team "real" until they go 5-2. To me it will be the sign of a new era in Cardinal football. Sounds funny but I thought I'd see if anyone else out there has a hint of scepticism in them.

With the way this season has been going, I still think we win 9 games, and still have no idea who the wins and losses will be against.

The final game of that season the starting WR's were Jake Saliday and Kevin Kasper. The Cardinals beat Quincy Carter and the Cowboys 9-6. David Boston was a crack head. That season helped usher in the Jeff Blake era. This season couldn't be any more different. There is no comparison.

It's hard to curb my enthusiasm when I have more faith in the Cards than the Suns.

Yeahhhh.......no. If we had only won one game this year and it was the Cowboys, I would still be happy today.

We have a real chance this year not only to win the division but set ourselves up for many years to come with a winning culture.
lets look at the division.
Rams...on their second coach of the season!! with a possibility of a 3rd one at the end of the season
49ers...Nolan hanging on by his finger nails extremely good chance he will be gone by the end of the season
Seahawks...coach retires at the end on this season.

so all our divisional rivals will be in rebuild mode for at least a season while their new headcoach puts his stamp on the team. We could establish ourselves.

That 9-6 game was perhaps the ugliest win in the history of the franchise

The Cardinals didnt score a TD. The Cowboys scored a TD on a long Quincy Carter to Antonio Bryant pass -- but then missed the extra point.

The Cowboys were bad that year -- and a "true" good team would have wiped the floor with them.

Anyone remember moving Wakefield to TE? The Cardinals were complete garbage from about 2000-2005 and I think we were all aware of it, but once you look back on it it becomes so real. Martay Jenkins cut by the Rattlers.....unreal how bad the Cards were.

I am not sceptical of this team. The coaches and players have talent and the depth we have is significant. Having said that, there are no guarantees in this league. On every Sunday you will see games like StL. beating Wash. Looking at the remaining 10 games I would wager that the Cardinals will be favored in 5 and underdogs in 5. The only road game I expect us to be favored in is at StL although I could imagine actually being favored in SEA this year. The only home game I expect to be an underdog for is the NYG game. A lot can change by the end of the year. Going 7-3 or 3-7 is possible depending on the breaks. The Dallas game was an example of the breaks not going our way and still earning a win so that is more reason for optimism. The Carolina game has now become the most important game of the year (because it is our next one). Looking past that (a cardinal sin), there are 3 divisional games in a row with two of them on the road. After the next 4 games we will either be in a very close fight for our division or sitting well on top. Since I project we will be underdogs in 4 out of our next 6 games it will be very tough, but as the Cardinals proved Sunday, they can do it. My enthusiasm has officially left the curb. I think it happened walking out of the UoPS last Sunday.

I think we as fans are too bipolar. With a win, it's SUPERBOWL!! With a loss,it's LOSING OUT!!!!

Pariah pointed this out and we need to be more mellow; don't get too high or too low, but have a steady flow of confidence and love of the team throughout

The chats are hillarious on game day. They make a big play to take a lead, they're the Steelers of the 70s.. Make a bad play or have the other team make a good play and it's "Same Old Cards". It's quite humorous.

The home wins have been great but I am waiting for them to beat a good team on the road.
When that happens things have really turned the corner.

Amazingly, the Cards had one of their best seasons running the ball averaging 4.4 yards per carry. Their two back system produced over 1,300 yards.

What that team didn't have, as was the case with all the Cards teams while Dave McGinnis was on the staff or HC was pitiful defense made worse by Plummer's tendency to throw interceptions. The 2002 team finished 29th in points and yards allowed.

As a Cards fan you have to take the enthusiasm when you find it. You may not have the same chance later on. We are 4/2, in first place and I am excited and enthused.

I agree 100%. We've earned a shot of enthusiasm. I'll worry about curbing it a bit about next friday as we board the plane.

There's some reason for enthusiasm. The Football Outsiders stat people have the Cardinals at #6 right now, and while their system isn't perfect by any stretch of the imagination, it's also pretty darned good at predicting outcomes once a few weeks have gone by.

They've got the Cards at #6, with the 49ers at #23, the Seahawks at #28, and the Rams at #31. Dunno when I've ever seen a path to a division title look so clear.
