Chuck Pagano NFL DC 1 yr - Ravens

3/3

Based on these facts and Pagano’s limited DC experience, I’d lean toward Nolan first, then Capers, and lastly Pagano.

I like to look at more recent history...

Nolan’s last 3 defenses as DC, were 24th, 27th and 32
He’s also known for lacking aggressive defenses

Capers 15, 22, 22
He’s been in the league forever and won a Super Bowl as DC for the Packers

Pagano only had 1 year as DC so harder to judge but he only had 1 losing season in 6 as a HC

Pagano might be the best of these three. Players really like him and I think he would be a good mentor and supporter of KK. He would be a team player and not a back stabber like Greg Williams.

Pagano is my top candidate, the others don’t move the needle for me. Why isn’t Del Rio in the mix?

MB and Keim said they definitely are going back to a 3-4. I think that Del Rio is a 4-3 coach.

How aggressive is Pagano with his 3-4 scheme? Selectively aggressive or a big blitz guy

I prefer Pagano or Del Rio. Del Rio is a 4-3 guy though.

Marvin Lewis but he hasn’t been a DC for over a decade. But when he was it was the best D in the business.

He took over defensive play calling this past season for the Bengals after he fired Austin. Word was it “reenergized” him.

IIRC a couple of weeks ago Gambo named 5 HC candidates he thought would end up in ARZ and none of them included Kingsbury or at least he didn't think or was told Kingsbury was a candidate until we all pretty much knew he was a couple of days ago. So this Top 3 he mentioned I take with a grain of salt because I don't think ARZ is limiting the candidate pool to these 3.

Yeah Gambo runs his mouth sometimes but it is his job to give his opinion. A few weeks ago, who saw this coming? It's all good.

I am not from Phoenix but that is what I was thinking. He throws out 3 names that they should consider...that is 100% opinion.

Would love Chuck Pagano. The other two not so much. Vance Joseph is well regarded in league circles and defense wasn't the problem in Denver.

I lean towards Pagano too, I think his style and personality would fit with KK

Miami Dolphins
Joseph was announced as the defensive coordinator of the Miami Dolphins for the 2016 season under head coach Adam Gase. Joseph oversaw a defense that played a key role in the Dolphins returning to the playoffs for the first time in eight seasons. Despite having to use 13 different starting lineups due to injury, Joseph’s defense ranked fourth in the NFL on third downs (36.2%) while forcing the sixth-most negative plays (107) in the league. The Dolphins won nine of their final 11 regular-season games in 2016 with Joseph’s defense accounting for the fourth-most takeaways (21) in the NFL during that stretch.
