Yeah, how could anyone doubt Towers commitment to building from within. Sure, he is dropping 7 million a year for 4th outfielders, trading young pitchers for older ones that are inferior to the guy they replaced. But I have no doubt that despite the older dudes having virtually all been massive disappointments, the young guys need to be moved for a fraction of their value... you know... because they were too flashy... or lacked grit... or were not beaning enough people... or something.

For sure... just wait! Gotta believe Corbin, Miley and Bradley will be shipped out soon!!

If the past is any indication, Bradley will be brought up at some point this season and if he struggles at all, the front office will say he isn't gritty or doesn't have it mentally and trade him for Willie Bloomquist, Dustin Ackley and a middle infield prospect from the Mariners. Then Gambo will get on the radio and say that the clubhouse is a little bit better because he left.

You guys are too much. first you bitch that the Dbacks don't emulate the Dodgers, et al and go after these foreign free agents.

Then when the Dbacks DO, you bitch that they are wasting their time, that the Dodgers, Cubs, Yankees, etc always get these type of guys.

I've never wanted the D-Backs to emulate the Dodgers. I'll be curious to see how they fare in their return to Yankee-type spending. The past 20 years have been very unkind to them as they loaded up on fat and fizzled. I would MUCH prefer the D-Backs emulate whatever it is the Giants keep doing to win championships. That's the organization with the blueprint in the NL West.

Pitching. Rotation and bullpen.

My biggest issue with this is KT going all in on Tanaka (his number 1 priority) knowing full damn well that the D-Backs aren't going to win a bidding war with the Dodgers and Yankees.

Also, what foreign pitcher would choose Phoenix over N.Y. or L.A. with the money being equal?

Depends... If he's married with kids, he could easily choose Phoenix. But chances are if he's single or married with no kids, would be tough not to go to NY or LA...

If the rumors here in L.A. are true, the Doiyers are going to one-up the D-Backs with the contract.

The truth is I have a better chance of scoring with Kate Upton than the D-Backs have of signing Tanaka.

Don't get me wrong - I would be as shocked as anyone of Tanaka chose the Dbacks... I really don't see that happening at all.
However, I have no problem with the team making the offer. And I believe there must be something(s) in place that make the team feel like they have some type of shot at landing Tanaka. Remote? For sure.... But, you can't win it unless your in it....

Whether KT's priority is a public relations gimmick or a glimmer of hope of which Tanaka would follow through . . .

There is nothing negative about the D'backs trying to be in the running for him.

Trying to establish the idea that we can afford to be more than a small-market team and afford Tanaka if he should consider us is a plus for our hometown team. Why would any D'backs fan ridicule it?

Jockeying for fourth-place status in buying power vs. NY, LA and Chicago might prove beneficial for future signings.

I don't have a problem with the Tanaka pursuit, even though its 99% likely to fail at least you are projecting an image of a higher standard. What I am worried about is what the team does when Tanaka does not sign here. Throw big money at a young free agent with huge potential, that I am fine with. But then panicking and using a chunk of that money on a guy like Garza or Arroyo? THAT is path I fear we are heading down.

Listening to 620 and it looks like the Dbacks are out of the running. Tanaka wants to live in a big city and it's most likely down to the Yankees and Dodgers.

Surprise surprise.

Edit: Looks like he's on his way to NY. Well, better than the Dodgers.

According to Steve Gilbert of MLB.com, the Diamondbacks are no longer in the running for Masahiro Tanaka.
It's unclear whether this means that Tanaka has decided on a team. The 25-year-old has until Friday at 5 p.m. ET to finalize an agreement, with teams like the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, White Sox, Mariners, Blue Jays, and Astros all reportedly interested. Some estimate that he will receive a contract in the range of six years and $120 million.

7 year $155 million deal to go to the Yankees. He can opt out after 4 years if he wants. WOW, that is a lot of money.

MLB really needs an international draft

The problem is that players from Asia would never come over then. He is making great money over there right now and there is no way the Royals, Pirates, Indians or Marlins would pay even 25% of what the Yankees just paid. Heck, I think he will make as much as all of hte Marlins will next season.

MLB really needs a strong salary cap structure... And, as many know - I grew up and lived the first 40 years or so of my life, as hard core of a Yankee fan as they come. However, MLB has a problem...

That would be ideal.

Revenue sharing, a hard cap, and a hard floor.

Basically, the NFL structure
