I wouldnt mind trading Batista, but Id rather we keep him- he's a good 3rd or 4th starter.

"Green, who recently had been linked to trade rumors involving the New York Yankees, heard that two more teams apparently have interest in him - the Seattle Mariners and St. Louis Cardinals.

"That's the latest, I guess," Green said. "This time of the year, there's a lot of things flying around and you don't really know what to believe. I'll just keep playing and if something were to pop up, then I'd address it.""

"They've [the Mets] also had talks with the Diamondbacks about pitchers Juan Cruz and Jose Valverde, though they weren't impressed with Valverde on a recent scouting trip. They'd spoken with the Diamondbacks about pitcher Miguel Batista, but Arizona is now telling teams Batista is not available. Arizona had a scout at Brian Bannister's rehab start for Class-A St. Lucie, and Bannister would entice them if the Mets were to put him in a trade offer."

If we can get someone to plug into the rotation right away for Batista then we'd have to think about pulling the trigger. Not sure Bannister is that guy, but I think Miggy walks at the end of this season anyways so getting a replacement would be nice especially when little dropoff this season.

And I'd trade Papa Fatso for a pitching machine at this point.

You're pipe dreaming here brother.

Also, maybe I'M pipe dreaming here, but has anyone else seen the article that linked a Diamondback-Ranger swap of Gonzo for Thomas Diamond?

Honestly, if that deal has any legs to it, I'll freaking DRIVE Gonzo to Texas myself.

Scott Bordow said on D'backs Live that the team is trying to package Hairston and Valverde for Clevelands Jake Westbrook. I think that could be a pretty good deal, Hairston is probably the odd man out with all the of the Dbacks talented outfield (not to mention Eric Byrnes) and Valverde seems to be a yoyo. Westbrooks ERA is pretty high though (4.44), I wonder if he could be a good #2. I think he'd be better as a #3 guy next year if we are in the running for a guy like Moulder. Webb-Big FA pitcher-Westbrook- Batista, that wouldnt be a bad top 4 for next year.

Mark Redman traded to Diamondbacks
Kansas City, MO (AP) - All Star pitcher Mark Redman traded to the Arizona Diamondbacks for pitchers Juan Cruz, Greg Aquino, and Bill Murphy.
Less than 1 week after acquiring a left handed starter in Odalis Perez, the Royals have shipped out left handed starter Mark Redman to Arizona for 3 pitchers. Mark Redman, the Royals lone all star representative by default, is 7-5 with a 5.03 on the season. However, since June 1st, he's 7-1 with an ERA a touch over 4. Mark Redman will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. Arizona will mark Redman's 7th team since his debut in 1999. His best season came in 2003 when he went 14-9 for the World Series Champion Florida Marlins.
The Royals will be picking up two major league experienced arms in Cruz and Aquino. Juan Cruz, who was acquired from Oakland last offseason to be Arizona's 5th starter, is 3-5 on the season with an ERA of 4.95. Greg Aquino, a hard throwing right hander, is 2-0 with a 4.54 ERA out of the bullpen. The Diamondbacks also acquried minor league pitcher Bill Murphy. Murphy was a part of the trade deadline deal two seasons ago that sent Steve Finley to the Los Angeles Dodgers.

From baseball prospectus

The Cardinals made a final bid for Dontrelle Willis, likely similar to the previous deal that centered on Anthony Reyes. Once again, the Marlins declined, not bowled over by the offer. The Marlins are unlikely to move anyone, including Joe Borowski. The Cards' interest in Shawn Green may not be over once the deadline passes. Most sources I asked think Green will clear waivers

Why? Don't you want the D-Backs to get another all-star caliber pitcher?

Jul 30 - It appears as though Barry Zito will not be traded, ESPN The Magazine's Amy Nelson reports. But the Mets and Diamondbacks have still made offers. The D-Backs, according to one baseball executive, offered either right-handed pitchers Dustin Nippert or Tony Pena -- both of whom are top prospects -- for Zito. The A's thought that "wasn't enough" and wanted another young arm.

Clearly would not have been enough to get Zito.

A couple of wild rumors...

First, the mild..

Shawn Green has reportedly waived his no-trade and a deal with St. Louis is imminent and Stuart Pomeranz, Chris Lambert and Eric Haberer are the names being thrown around as possible future D-Backs. At this point, it's believed that the 6'7 Pomeranz is the name Arizona covets most.

Then for the wild rumor.

Reportedly, Arizona, the Angels and Houston have discussed a three team, multi-player deal that broken down looks like this..

Arizona Would Acquire
Willy Taveras
Dallas McPherson
Joe Saunders

Los Angeles Would Acquire
Morgan Ensberg
Luis Gonzalez

Houston Would Acquire
Chad Tracy

Again, this is only speculation.. I'd be willing to bet nothing comes of this, but that's a rumor that's quietly made some rounds.

On one hand, losing Tracy would suck.. It'd suck badly.

HOWEVER.. Getting Saunders would be a big coup. I'm a big fan of the guy and think he can be a top of the rotation pitcher, and he and B-Webb could be the 1-2 of the future. Getting Taveras also gives Arizona a monster on the basepaths. With Gonzo and Green out of the picture, Arizona can play Taveras at CF, give Young the rest of the season in AAA, and go with a Q-Byrnes, Taveras OF, then next year bring Young up for good.

As for McPherson, I may be alone, but I still think he's capable of being a 35 homer a year guy..

In all, again, I wouldn't hold my breath on this happening, but it's made the rounds.

Where is this coming from? Obviously the first would be a great trade, the second doesn't seem credible--we have no need for Taveras with Young ready, so it seems to be Tracy and Gonzalez for Saunders, which I can't imagine we'd do.

Here's stats for the three pitchers mentioned in the Green deal. Pomeranz/Lambert both get hit way too hard for my liking, I'm hoping Springfield is an extreme hitter's park.

I don't think McPherson can be included in any deal, I'm pretty sure he's hurt pretty bad and is out for the rest of the season. That and he's beginning to look like Russell Branyan at this point. Saunders would likely go straight into the rotation but Taveras isn't a philisophical fit not to mention he's strictly a leadoff hitter who doesn't get on base.
