East Valley Tribune Online says;

" The Cardinals still cannot comment on the status of running back Damien Anderson, who remains hospitalized after a car accident early Saturday morning. Anderson’s agent, Mike McCartney, also declined comment, citing the family’s desire for privacy. Anderson faces possible drunken driving and assault charges after the accident, which also sent two of his brothers to the hospital. "

What's the part about " assault charges " ? Drunk, no seatbelts and now assault ? I thought Northwestern U. taught it's grads better than that.

Maybe he swerved his car at somebody in an attempt to hit them but missed??? Just a guess, but that can be charged as AWDW!

Either that or its justa typo.

The other thing that is strange is supposedly DA needed a couple of operations, removed his spleen, sewed him backup, etc..................but no one but family is allowed to visit, supposedly teammates are to be able to visit by end of week. None of his injuries are career threatening supposedly.

The latest report is that Dr Steadman is on his way to screw up his career!

I'm no lawyer, let alone an AZ law specialist but if the accident had resulted in a fatality, he would be facing vehicular manslaughter charges. As it is, he will face assault charges due to injuries he inflicted on the passangers.

I guess they don't call them "accidents" anymore. They are now called Vehicular assaults. WOW, that is freaky. Must be true, lawyers are running the world.

It's not an accident if you are out there drunk and driving - you are playing with a loaded weapon. Vehicular assault is a very appropriate term for what happened - accident is not.

I don't know if you read the article, but the same vehicle was reported driving erratically in the area that night. I grew up in that area, have driven home a teeny bit inebriated very late at night, and you have to be pretty out of it to drive your car off an onramp that's three lanes wide.

That's what I was thinking. That off ramp is fairly wide and is pretty much straight as an arrow.

Not at all - Damien will have a chance to defend himself in court - but I was responding to your post about the charges - he is charged with vehicular assault - which you try to pass off as an "accident". I was merely correcting you.

Not only that, but I think that they have the little "lane bumps" there, and at that time of night/morning, there's NO TRAFFIC WHATSOEVER on the East Side. The construction is a mile away from there on Chandler Boulevard. It's not like he was swerving to avoid a cat, either. I'd bet he was driving back from the Rez or the club and was a little f'd up. It'll all come out. Shame it had to happen to such a promising player, but if he was drunk driving, I hope they prosecute him to the fullest extent of the law.

Holy crap. I figured that was the case, but I didn't want to rush to judgement. Only ones out at 2:30 AM are drunks & cops. So get drunk earlier.

Good gosh. Lighten up. It was meant to be humorous and light. Don't take me literally. You know , accident becomes vehicular assault. Anyway vehicular assault implies he intended to roll his vehicle over and hurt something. An accident means "oops, I didn't mean to do that". Micro management is not a good thing.

If he did what is alleged then I guess he accidentally drank a lot.

Drinking and driving is a conscious choice and anything that happens once the drunk driver takes the wheel is not an "accident." They're already breaking a couple of laws just by turning the ignition on and putting their vehicle in gear (DUI and endangering the lives of everyone around them, in their own vehicle and in any vehicle they drive near).

What about personal responsibility? Only a loser gets drunk and takes their keys and gets behind the wheel, especially with passengers. Even more so - especialy when you've got enough money to call for a ride or even have a driver set up ahead of time.

I hope DA and his brother(s) heal quickly from their injuries, but then I hope the charges are pursued and we find out what really happened.

Sorry if I don't find drunk driving "humorous and light" my bad.
