I dont buy it. Sure hes never been a motivated guy, or at least stood up to what people thought he would be but hes avg a solid 6/7/1.5 his last 5 years in Dallas. We only need him for 10-15 minutes a game. Whats the problem?

The problem is that with the Mavericks, he believed he was playing for a contender, plus he wanted to sustain his value for one final contract. Neither of those will be in play if the Suns give him a deal.

I don't think we need to get a little bit wetter.

Sarcasm notwithstanding, you're right - we do need another big guy. Hopefully, whoever we bring in will also be a basketball player which pretty much leaves Dampier out of the equation. Think back to all those times we played Dallas. More often than not, the Suns would send his butt to the bench. And that included the times he was motivated to give full effort.

Well, clearly it's a desperation move, and probably appropriate at this point. That's what happens when you make all your major personnel decisions without a GM. I've promised myself to have no expectations this year for the team, and if anything positive happens to try and appreciate it. It should be an entertaining team to watch, but our interior presence is just laughable at this point.

It just makes me sad for a guy like Nash, especially seeing his reaction after losing to the Lakers. He knew his last chance at winning a championship had just slipped through his fingers. It's just unfair he's not on a team willing to do whatever it takes to win, he deserves better. Just a real shame, not many other players I can think of who I would rather see get a ring.

Yeah, Nash is clearly one of the guys it's easy to cheer for. I'd love to see him go out with a real chance at a championship but it's just not going to happen in Phoenix. Put him on a team that plays good enough defense to cover his weaknesses and they'd be a pretty special team. Even if Dampier was in his prime though and motivated he wouldn't be enough to make this team a true contender, IMO.

Dampier at his prime was like a 13/13/2.5 player, so he would certainly have been a major impact player, but he wouldn't have driven us to a championship. That's neither here nor there though, because the Dampier we're talking about is a spot player. After reading this thread, I have to say I agree with elindhom's concerns that Dampier would just be a slug for us. I think we'd be better off with some young guys with some hunger in their guts....

I don't think Dampier is more than a distraction. If the Suns were willing to pay to get rid of Shaq, why would they pay for a guy with far less talent?

Exactly. He will want minutes, but we need to give minutes to younger players. But, like the thread title says, Dampier is stabile. He is so stabile that he might as well just play one end of the floor.

Gambo tweeted today that we don't have interest in Dampier anymore. Yeah, that makes sense.

I'm now thinking why would the Suns want a player on their roster that does want to be a part of training camp or even the preseason. I really question his motivation, although like many fans, I am still desperate enough to give it a try.

Yeah, I think Dampier doesn't really care much to play basketball anymore. Not that it ever seemed like he did before. For a team that is trying to build chemistry, he could be an unnecessary distraction.

At this point we need someone who is a passable big man and can at least pretend to cover the 5 without embarrasing himself. So much so that I've almost convinced myself that Dampier is a viable option for us. Someone shoot me now.

Well, you're about to join a fairly large group of posters that have already chimed in for Dampier. Me, I think I'll hold out a while longer.

I'm no expert but I know I was always happiest against Dallas when Dampier was on the court. If I had to choose right now between Collins and Dampier I'd take Collins. Not because I like Collins but because I'm confident we'd go the whole season without actually playing him. If we buy ourselves a Dampier you can bet we'll use him. No thanks. I'd rather play Siler or one of our 2nd round picks from this last draft.
