Cardinals | Dansby could move to middle linebacker
Sat, 6 May 2006 12:59:48 -0700

Darren Urban, of the East Valley Tribune, reports Arizona Cardinals head coach Dennis Green hinted LB Karlos Dansby could move to middle linebacker. The move would depend on DL Calvin Pace's transition from defensive end to strongside linebacker.

It strikes me that calvin Pace dropping back into coverage could be a disaster waiting to happen.

I think Pace has the tools to do it......Why not try it and see if it works?

people are missing the point here. moving dansby to mlb would kill what he does best. dansby roams across the freely at the olb position. at the mlb he is going to be stuck in traffic. can dansby take on a 320 lbs gaurd and still make the takcle. i really don't think that is his game.

The only reason he is doing this right now along with the transition for Pace is due to injuries. 3 of our LBs can't participate in the mini-camp ... this just planning for worst case scenario

I agree I think it's a horrible idea. His strength is speed, pursute, and his ability to cover. Gerald Hayes would be a great MLB if he could ever stay healthy!

Don't screw with it. Leave Dansby alone. If Hayes doesn't work out Darling is not that bad.

darling has played the middle linbacker roll before. i am not saying that dansby can't play the mlb. i saying you are limiting his talent.

I agree, PJ. Dansby's a Pro Bowler waiting to happen at SAM.

Darling is a slow starter...it seems to take him 4-5 games to get rolling. Hayes, if healthy, will be solid. The good news is that with the additions of Clancy, Watson and Lewis at DT, the MLBers should be better protected and should be able to be more productive. If Lance Mitchell has hit the weights hard this off-season, he could surprise as well.

Darling is hurt right now. Hayes and Darling can't practice due to injuries

This is just for a worst case scenario. People are reading WAY too much into this

I think it is worse case scenerio as well.

It could also just be an alignment that Pendy is experimenting on.

Maybe sort of a big 4-3 Alignment of some sort. If Watson and Clancy are the front two DT's in this sort of look, I dont mind Dansby at MLB at all.

Highly doubt it is a base alignment if ever used.

They are trying C Pace at OLB. The team should put its best defensive players on the field. If that means using K Dansby at MLB, so be it.

Here is what I would say. Dansby has great size, speed, similar to Ray Lewis and Brian Urlacher. The middle backer position does well for those two and what does it hurt for him to practice it for depth? If he turns out to be even more of a monster, great, if not he should be veteran enough to go back to outside.

This was flat out stupid of the Cardinals not to address either in Free agency or the draft. People are there that can help without taking an all-star out of his position.

Like who.

What pick in the draft would you have liked to of not had in favor of a LB still on the board. There isnt a LB in the first 6 rounds I would have traded in for our first 6 picks. And in the 7th round were there any LB's really any better then the one we got in UDFA.

And what FA in our price range would have come here.

We drafted a LB, signed a LB that started for the Jets in 11 games last year, and brought in a UDFA. I dont see what else we could have done. We have 10 LB's on the roster, 11 if you count Pace.

This was an expirement only, not a numbers game. In fact Huff was Playing some MLB to during the 3 day mini camp. Dansby practiced it for a total of 1 day. We did this last year with our LB's as well, it is nothing new.

I was hoping that the Cards might get Abdul Hodge in the third but he went with the 67th selection right before we got Pope at 72.

Huff, if you guys remember, was thought to be a better fit for MLB last preseason and people were worried about him playing on the outside.

"..And in this corner.."

I thought we were getting D. Robinson at LB from ASU, which would have been a great move, as an UDFA..

There will be more scrambling after June 1st cuts come around...I expect that Hayes is making progress or there would be more concern by DG and his coaches...between Mitchell and Johnson being drafted last year, there are other possibilities we are not seeing yet...Have faith...evaluating talent has not really been an issue for DG, sometimes it just comes down to health and luck.
