Its the uncertainty with Dansby, that I would like to see us go after Scott McKillop. Let him develop this year, I think he'll make a good ILB for years to come.

and we may have another...Q

2 years away is just to far way for me to even be remotely concerned about.

Maybe we or myself is looking at it way to deeply in terms of what Dansby is saying. It could just be negotiating ploy. I mean would he actually come out and say, "yeah I am not really looking foward to free agency in 2010", I mean we arent talking about Warner here telling everyone he only wants to play for the Cardinals. Its all just talk until something actually happens.

At minimum Dansby works his butt off this year we get a good year out of him, then we worry about it in 2010.

If the Cards want him, they will have to overpay. They without a doubt overpaid for Kurt, and they will have to do the same with Karlos. 20M guaranteed is what he will get or he wont sign.

20 million guaranteed???

Don't disagree that this might be the number, but where did you get it?

It's near the deal that Calvin Pace got. He has been using that as a barometer for quite a while.

“I am trying to maximize what I am worth,” Dansby said. “I’m not sure I’m going to have another opportunity like this. It’s the ideal position to in the position I am in right now. I want to make the most of it.”

In other words....see ya!

This is so full of hyperbole it's barely worth getting into it with you. 6-10 per for the NFC starter at Pro Bowl and arguably the best QB in football last year is not only inaccurate, it's ridiculous. For some reason you fail to recognize that Warner was the engine that got us to the super bowl. Is it time to trot out your insane "Kurt should be paid the same as Kerry Collins" argument? I'm definitely no Warner jocker, but it's amazing how short sighted certain people can be about this team...luckily Whis is not one of them.

I LOVE how you claim you would have given him 19 million 3 years ago because of his age...clearly age is more important than performance to you, which is all I need to know.

I think it would be ideal if Matt was the leader of the team, but you wishing so won't make it happen. There's a reason he's on the bench, and it's because he has one of the best qb's in football in front of him.

"The Cards appeared to negotiate out of desperation as they were afraid that they were going to lose their fanbase if the didn't resign him. It's no coincidence that they completed Kurts deal BEFORE season ticket renewals came out. "

Uh, yeah...amazing that there is a connection. Most fans are capable of realizing that Warner was a main reason we made the Super Bowl. Of course if we let him go there would be a negative reaction, and the SOC talk.

Thank you Chris. Well said.

Football is a business and Dansby wants to be a free agent and get the most money that he can. The Cards need to draft his replacement and go on.
We will at least have him this season and he certainly will be highly motivated.

I know I am a Cardinal fan and every football player out their should want to be a Cardinal! Why squabble over a couple of million dollars. You (the player) have more money that you will ever need (if you stay of the drugs, booze, and don't go out and kill someone while you are drinking and driving).

If only these players had the loyalty that we fans have. Free agency, love it or hate it.

He may, or may not, be gone after next year. But, if management had the attitude of saying "see ya" to every guy who makes a statement about wanting to get the best deal they can.....

that would limit us to re-signing... Kurt Warner. And, that's about it.

After the season Dansby was all about keeping the team together:
“We’ve got the opportunity to be great next year if we keep everybody together,” said linebacker Karlos Dansby, one of the key players who may not return. “Everybody wants to come back. We have some unfinished business. We planted the seed in Florida. Hopefully next year we can go back and reap the fruit.” Karlos Dansby 2/2009.

Now, he's all about his payday:
Dansby clearly feels that could be a boon to him as an unrestricted free agent, saying if he were to hit the market he could “make a splash, man. Make a splash.” Karlos Dansby 4/2009.

Many of these players don't understand that if all your core players (16 - 20 of them) get payed as top 5 or 10 players, you can't afford to field a complete team.

To me, Dansby has always been a me first guy. He has never shown me anything in attitude or character to make me believe he is a key or core player to get behind.

Good luck Carlos, you deserve whatever you get. We don't have to be the ones that hurt our team to give you your dream payday.

That is all.

What was he supposed to show you? He gets paid to make tackles and force turnovers not meet our expectations of character. Dansby has made plays every year he's been in Arizona. Anyone who claims he's only played in his 2 contract years hasn't been watching the games or reading the box scores.

Thankfully the Cards unloaded all those character guys that gave us that remarkable 2003 season.

Hey, 'Los...sit down and shut the hell up. You're now in the back of the line, and I don't care if you cry about it. If it weren't for the fact that we need your production next year, I wish you'd suck so bad you didn't get a dime in FA. You're all about the money now, and even though you can get a boatload here and keep this team great, you bring up that Latrell Sprewell 'family' crap. Yeah, like we're offering a deal that will turn your wife into a crack *****.

I think, after a public statement of arrogance such as this, there's now a good chance he'll be traded before or during the draft. Especially if a certain Rey-Rey is on the clock sometime before we pick. I say we keep him and squeeze every bit of usefulness out of him this season, but I wouldn't put it past Whis and co. to send a message and trade him. For good value, of course ;)

I know I'm overreacting, but this kind of greedy prima-donna crap really gets to me.

I am not happy about this at all, even though this sort of action doesnt surprise me at all coming from a guy like Dansby. He does not want "fair market value" he wants to be over paid like Calvin Pace. And for what? He's been a good player for the Cards, but he has yet to make a pro bowl. Like a lot of people on the defensive side of the ball (with the exception of AW) he is replaceable.

My take is that we now turn our attentions to AW and getting his new deal put in place. To me, this one seems a little easier. If Dansby doesn't like it, he can take a long walk off a short pier. Boldin is still a priority, but the caveat is that he has two years left on his deal while AW and Dansby have only one.

The other thing that ticks me off is that he has the odassity to pull the "...it has to be something that is comfortable with my family" card. I remember Latrell Sprewell saying something to that effect and getting blackballed from the NBA. Come on, Karlos! Sometimes, the dumbest people make the most money. This economy is being hit hard with the recession, people are losing their jobs and families are not able to make ends meet and a multi-millionaire is telling the public that his family wouldn't be comfy with $24 mil guaranteed and $12 mil upfront. Sorry, son, but those five brand new pairs of True Religion jeans are just going to have to wait until Fall. :soapbox:

seriously..screw this guy...He is set on being a FA, and has said to MANY times in various interviews..

Part of me thinks that wood may have been coming close to a deal and told Dansby he needs to take it, and because Dansby is so set on not d=signing he FIRES the agaent, so as not to look like the bad guy...

In some ways this is worse than Boldin IMO, and unlike Boldin the really isn't anything we can really do other than watch him play this year and leave us next year...

this really BLOWS!:bang:

What do yall perceive is Dansby's trade value? Could we get a first rounder for him and land Ray or James? Cushing could even play inside in a 3-4. It just seems to me like Dansby's days in AZ are numbered.

Problem is if everyone knows that they can't re-sign him, he has zero value in a trade. Face it we're stuck with him. I'd be happy if we got a second for him right now. Something is better then nothing.

It is the P-Burgh MO to keep players until they're ready for the big pay-day and then send them packing.

Speaking of Pace, I've read somewhere that he was asked to renegotiate his contract.

Any one knows what was the new deal?

Only when those players are older. Go check the Steelers roster and see how many 5-6 year players they have. You don't get those guys without re-signing them at least once.

The funny thing about these Dansby posts is that you could insert Fitzgerald instead of Dansby and they would be exactly the same as the ones from around this time last year.

Fitz NEVER talked about how he couldn't wait to be a F.A., and how is "is going to make a SPLASH in Free Agency"

Fitz never held out over and over again (remember it was the Cardianls that needed to redo his deal NOT resign him)

Dansby has no intention of resigning with the Cards and only signed the Tag this year so he is guaruenteed to be a F.A. in 2010...

I kind of hope he hasan absolute PISS POOR year and gets crap, and has to come back to the Cards with his tail between his legs and beg for the deal we are offering now...

I mean WE WERE OFFEREING 22 MILLION GUARENTEED... FOR A ILB!!!!

If that isn't good enough screw him, he obviously wants Albert Haynesworth Money, and somehow he believes the Cowboys or Redskins are going to pay him that next year, which IMO is a little far retched...

I am just sick about the whole situation

Show me. I heard we were offering 12M guaranteed. I think you're way off here. He'd sign for 22M.

that would limit us to re-signing... Kurt Warner. And, that's about it.

Of course...at that point you decide where you want to pay max money, and where you think you can get by with a less expensive option. Kurt Warner and Fitz cannot be replaced, Dansby can be adequately substituted, or so at least the FO believes...
