LBs without huge sack numbers often inflate their value. Karlos is going where the $ is. So AZ just needs to choose if 1) they want to pay him "what he's looking for" and 2) if the market really values him at that same price.

I think he won't even get Pace money next season.

If the Cards come with a fair market offer,he'll sign. If Graves wants Dansby to give him a home team discount, he'll be gone. Dansby holds all the cards. He gets about 10 mill this year and free agency next year. I can see why Graves is holding the line with Boldin and Dockett. The last 3 high profile guys, Fitz, Warner, and now Dansby, have had all the leverage.

The ironic, or crazy, thing about free agency is that in many cases teams won't overpay their own guy letting him leave then they'll turn around and sign a replacement for more money than the replacement's team was willing to pay.

How much will the possibility of an uncapped 2010 influence current negotiations with KD, DD, AD and Q? Wouldn't the uncertaintly make such things as "length-of-contract" pretty dicey?

I don't think Warner had as much leverage as we gave him. It was clear that he wasn't going to SF or any other team.

I'm sorry I am not sure how? It shouldn't stop them from extending Wilson, and the other players due for big contracts won't be free agents after this year. All indications were that they didn't intend to be big players in FA this year either, so explain to be again how franchising Dansby this year is going to bite them?

I may just be getting a bit burnt out on these players and thier ideas of what they are worth. And I might be completely wrong, but it is my opinion that the Cards tagged Dansby last year because they knew they were not going to be able to get him and Fitz both done. Then this year it felt to me like the tag was more of a buy some time because it looks like something can get done. All reports were that both sides were close. Then bam Dansby fires his agent and starts opening saying he is excited about the idea of becoming a free and setting time lines on when he is no longer willing to hear offers. It just pisses me off.

And while I agree no one expected the Cards to be big spenders in FA this year, this Dansby deal definetly closed that door for the most part. He will have made close to $20 million in two years and if he leaves that just boils down to money not well spent. And that bites any business in the a$$!

Now not knowing what has really been happening I suppose the Cards might be low balling him or something like that and this is why we are not getting something done. But if he is wanting Pace money after just banking $20 million, I just dont see the Cards doing that. I personally I dont think they should.

Had they know going in that the events would play out like they have I doubt they tag him. Therefore some of these other deals might be resolved. Dont forget next year there will be more deals that need to happen and the lack of getting deals done this year because of the Dansby deal makes for a problem.

The July 15th deadline Dansby referenced is an NFL-imposed date, not Dansby's own constraint on negotiations.

Here it is:
Under the franchise label, Dansby and the Cardinals have until July 15 to reach a multiyear deal. After that, Dansby cannot sign a new contract until after the 2009 season.

Kurt Warner was the Cards big free agent signing this year. $15 million. Once that deal was done with its $11.5 million cap hit in '09 there wasn't much left for anything else when combined with Dansby's franchise $. $24 million guaranteed to two players.

Yet they still brought in McFadden and Jason "Pariah" Wright so FA for this year wasn't too bad.

Yep. Remember how last year it was Fitzgerald holding the team hostage because he secretly wanted out of here even though he repeatedly said he didn't? It's deja vu all over again with this Dansby bum.

exactly. much ado about nothing. dude wants to cash in. no harm in that. he's an impact player. pay him.

One thing to consider with Dansby is that he has been just as effective on the outside in a 4-3 as he has been inside in the Cards hybrid. So he isn't limited only to signing as an ILB with those teams running a 3-4 and may get paid OLB money instead ILB.

NFL teams aren't stupid, well most of them anyway, and they'll see those 8 sacks Dansby had in 2006 playing on the outside as well as his coverage ability and some will believe he can help them on the outside.

That would mean the Cards would have to pay more to get to what Dansby is looking for.

Either way it goes its going to cost the Cards either money or a high draft pick. But such is the price of success in the NFL.

i think you hit the nail on the head. he's versatile and a playmaker. he's a modern day wilber marshall.

still, the Cards had to re-sign him after a Super Bowl run. The public relations hit would have been a nightmare. They didn't have to cave to his every demand like they did but they had to sign him.

I can understand that. But the man openly discussed retiring as well.

The past few years have proved the Cards to not be very good negotiators. Dansby should expect to get everything he is asking for if you are looking at Warner, Fitzm etc. as an example.
