Nothing changes the fact that Miami still overpaid him.

Yeah I feel this always gets left out of the discussion for some reason.

The Cardinals handled this brillantly. They tried to resign Dansby, thought he was resigned, he fired his agent and they let someone over pay him.

They drafted a 2nd round guy who out performed him over the 3 years and then signed him to a lower extension that locks him up over 5 years or so at 1/2 the price Dansby got.

Miami got no where near there moneys worth over 3 years and now Los is back in Cardinals Red still arguably in his prime or just out of it?

Thats what you call winning.

Its like Simmons Trade Value Column. 29 yr old Dansby at 50 million <<<<< 32 yr old Dansby at 1 year 5 million or so.

All the above numbers are rough :)

Pretty impressive that ILB went from one of our biggest weaknesses over last 3 years to a strength. All it took was a 2 Free Agents and a 2nd Round Pick.

As bad and down as I felt after learning of the DWash 4-game suspension, then the domestic dispute, I feel the exact opposite with the superb acquisition.

Welcome back Karlos!

This is an excellent move by BA and SK IMO. Karlos has been an extremely productive 3-down linebacker who is still playing at a high level and fits the Todd Bowles scheme. Not only that but he's been extremely durable throughout his NFL career.

Well done Cardinals! This is the kind of front office support that the Cardinals have just not had over the years. It's good to see the page has been turned on the Same Old Cardinals. With the strength of the NFC West, the old ways of doing business don't cut it, and really never did.

I feel this always gets left out of the discussion. The Cards also overpaid Dansby for two years using the franchise tag twice paying him over $17 million for two years of football. If they had handled it brilliantly they would have worked out an extension during those two years. However, it is apparent that Dansby was determined to become a free agent regardless of what Arizona did. The only thing the Cards could do was overpay him or let him go. That's not being brilliant they just had no choice.

Brilliantly would have been to let him leave after 2008 and drafted James Laurinatis rather than Beanie Wells and Shonn Greene rather than Cody Brown. :D

The guy who handled it brilliantly was Dansby who got paid around $40 million dollars 2008-2012 if I'm not mistaken.

They should have never let Dansby leave in the first place. A real GM sees that and brings him back.

Although with the way our D was set up at the time, do you think we would have ever drafted Dwash had Dansby stayed? Maybe it's a blessing that things worked themselves out the way they did. Now, if the current #58 can just sort out of all his troubles, we would have two great LBs lining up next to each other.

Yup. I like Los but Washington is one of my fav and one of our best players at LB maybe ever. Things worked out for the best. I'm confident this rough patch will be a hiccup for DWash.

All good points but had Dansby been extended there likely is no Washington in Arizona.

And troubles this offseason aside that would be a very bad thing.

Hard to say. Nobody knows for sure that Dansby wouldn't have had similar success with Horton as DWash. Karlos sure did his first three seasons.

Looking at the 2010 draft going BPA they might have drafted Washington anyway. Not much taken after him. On the other hand if needing a LB kept the Cards from drafting Jimmy Clausen then it was a good thing Dansby left.

What also gets left out is that Graves used the F tag on him twice. The Cards/Graves basically hd 3 years to get a deal with him and Graves failed to do so. I know the response is goimg to be, it's take two to negotiate. I agree, but Graves is also one of those two. There's not a player in the league that would rather be f-tagged than sign a long term extension at market value. Plus, we have only heard from the Cards side of things that they thought they had an agreement. Dansby denied that back when it happened.

Either way, it's all in the past and it's good to have Dansby and what looks like a real GM in the fold.

yes

Fanfare example

Edge was worshipped by Indy fans, gave a SB ring from his former team - Top 10 all time NFL RB records- while many if not most Cardinal fans and Whisenhunt treated him like a pile of dung-

Not so quietly BA is forcing his will on Cardinal dysfunctional culture and fans. Starting with grading Levi Elite and supporting him come hell or high water.

Not Mike Adams, Gay, McFadden, Faneca, Porter or THT, and other Whiz pets -

I don't even know what that looks like. Fanfare for a departing FA player? Do have any examples of this happening in the NFL?

Thrilled with getting LOS back and how this new regime is getting things done. I would think Mitch is not as happy as most as he thought/thinks LOS plays like he is wearing a Tuxedo.

Did we see contract numbers yet?

LOS and DWash will get plenty of snaps on the field together which gives us two LB's who can provide great pass defense and also rush the passer.

I think the Colts were pretty classy in the way they handled Dwight Freeney not really being welcome back.

I now remember they did a nice sorta send off for Peyton but he is at a different level than LOS and Freeney and 95% of the players in the NFL.

“@kentsomers: #azcardinals LB Karlos Dansby's 1yr deal worth $2.25 m. $1m signing bonus, $1.25m base salary.”

GREAT signing! Thought it'd be around the mid $3M - $4M range!
