If you can get decent value (high picks, expiring contracts) for Nash, you do it and you do it now. The Suns need to rebuild. The longer they wait to deal him the less they'll get in return. If you're going to trade Nash ever you do it right now.

Yes, IF the Suns were to do a trade with Charlotte of Nash/Diaw for Wallace/Felton/#9 and maybe a future 1st, I'd do it in a heartbeat. With the proposed of Nash for Felton/Nazr/Harrington/#9 they'd have to add in a future 1st. Plus Charlotte would have to pick for the Suns at #9, then after free agency starts they would have to S&T Harrington since he is a free agent, which would put the ca bosh on the deal for me. The only assets that Charlotte has for a deal, without S&T's that could make a deal possible is Felton/Nazr/Morrison/#9 or Felton/Nazr/Dudley/May/#9 or my FAVORITE: Felton/Wallace/Dudley/#9 for Nash/Tucker.

For me any deal with Charlotte that takes out Nash had better bring at least #9 along with a combo of at least 2 of Felton/Wallace/Okafor (S&T) to even consider it.

Then maybe swing a deal with Portland sending Barbosa for #13 along with either Blake/Jack and one of Outlaw/Webster.

Take the Felton/Wallace/Dudley/#9 deal along with the Portland deal and we have:

Felton/Blake (or Jack)
Bell/Hill/Strawberry
Wallace/Webster
Amare/Dudley
Shaq/Diaw

Then we have #9, #13, #15, #48 to deal with in the draft. Trade 2 picks to move up to grab a future PG (Bayless/Mayo/Augustin) or big (Brook Lopez). Or ship all 3 first rounders to Miami for #2 and grab either Rose or Beasley

Reiterate: If a good deal becomes available, trading our aging MVP away doesn't mean we're all going to turn into pumpkins or suffer 7 yrs of bad luck.
Having Nash retire a SUN would be nice but the fact is that his value will never be higher than it is today.

Its not about nash retiring as a sun. If you trash the team with a dumb trade, just watch amare decline his player option when it comes up. Then the team will turn into a pumpkin and FA's will be LOL at the suns. Amare could be a laker or a knick in 2010, hows that for the bad luck caused by stupid deals? Do a gasol and even the draft picks dont want to play for you( as the grizzlies).

10M expiring contracts have been known to get all star centers. Some might say he's more valuable as an expiring contract than as a guy with 2 years left. Oh thats right I forgot, the suns give AWAY first round picks with their expiring contracts.

No way the suns would trade nash just right after hiring a new coach, that is probally one of the main reasons porter took this job because with Nash you have a great shot at making the playoffs.

Someone, anyone, who thinks the Suns need to rebuild now please explain yourself to me. It's not as if the Suns only won 20-30 games last year. You don't tear down and rebuild a house when it only needs a coat of paint, some insulation, and maybe some new pipes.

Sorry but i beg to differ. Our backcourt is what needs to be rebuilt IMO. Bell isn't a quality starter anymore IMO. Barbosa & Nash are sieves on the defensive end. This core group is old and slow(-Amare) and a few of our key guys seem to have the term "can't win the big game" imprinted on their brain from the D'Antoni experience:bang:.

Ok....starting lineup scenario #12,344,567,899

If the SUNS could find a way to get Artest without losing Bell i'd be pulling a Tom Cruise on my couch.
NASH
HILL/BELL( I like Hill at the 2 but thats just me. Bell vs the quicker matchups)
ARTEST
STAT
SHAQ
Nobody's gonna F with that starting lineup.
Bench: BELL,GIRICEK,SKINNER,DJ,TUCKER,draft pick(backup PG)

Barbosa/Diaw/cash/gorilla/my ex-girlfriends phone #,and a microphone to KINGS for Ron Ron.

Maybe the problem is some have been smoking the "fantasy pipe" too much.

Nash/Barbosa/Tucker for Wallace/Felton/Mohammed/#9

Felton
Bell
Wallace
Stoudemire
O'Neal

With the 9th and 15th pick we draft Raja Bell and Shaq's future replacement out of these choices...Brook Lopez, Eric Gordon(My Top Choice), Anthony Randolph, Joe Alexander, JaVale McGee, DeAndre Jordan or Brandon Rush.

Our lineup could look like this...

If a SG/SF taken at #9

R.Felton/B.Udrih(MLE)
R.Bell/E.Gordon/DJ.Strawberry
G.Wallace/G.Hill
A.Stoudemire/B.Diaw
S.O'Neal/N.Mohammed/J.McGee

If Center taken at #9

R.Felton/B.Udrih(MLE)
R.Bell/B.Rush/DJ.Strawberry
G.Wallace/G.Hill
A.Stoudemire/B.Diaw
S.O'Neal/B.Lopez/N.Mohammed

Either way our future looks brighter and yet we still have a top 6-8 roster in the west.

We wont be as good as we would be if we had Nash next season, but who cares cause either way we wont be winning a title in 2009 anyway.

Better to build towards the future.

And i like the thoughts of having this lineup and enough money to sign a top FA after Shaq's salary clears the books.

R.Felton
B.Rush
G.Wallace
A.Stoudemire
B.Lopez

or

R.Felton
E.Gordon
G.Wallace
A.Stoudemire
J.McGee or D.Jordan

I don't see the Suns winning it all next season therefore if the Suns can get an excellent deal for any player I would look at it seriously. Maybe the Suns keep Nash for one more season to make one last run but as I see it, the Suns are not going to get out of the Western Conference in the playoffs. As JC always said, it is better to trade a player a year too early than a year too late. This seemed a logical approach to me. I'd like to rebuild the Suns on the run now that they have lost their identity... at least to me.

In another thread http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/f7/which-suns-113651.html, I pointed out that the Suns regular season record following Shaq transition period (when they went 3 and 6) and Giricek joined the teams was 15 and 5. Take away the transition period when D'Antoni had Shaq at the high post :bang: and te Suns went 3 and 6, the Suns played pretty well. last season. Take away that tough transition period and the Suns would have been on pase for a 58 win season in year when the best record in the West was 57 wins.

Unless there is a reason to think Porter will do a substantially worse job than D'Antoni, this does not looke like a team deserving to be blown up.

It is true the Suns did poorly in the playoffs, but their biggest problems were 33.6% three point shooting and someone who can deal with Parker. Kerr may be wrong in his evaluation of Rush, but that's what he is projected to bring to the table.

Considering how important shooting threes are for the Suns, trading a guy who shoots 47% for three for a guy who shoots 28% for three seems pretty odd.

I'd modify the bobcats offer.

I want to bring Morrison here somehow. Would improve with O'neal and Stoudemire giving him looks and confidence.

I love Nash, my fave Suns player today. But again, I'm for the team....
I have doubts about the Suns chances next season, quiet simply, the fire power has regressed a lot. The "run" and "gun" Suns is dawning...

Nash's value is still high, Kerr is pretty much looking pass the next 2 seasons I think. He is thinking 5 year plan.
If he can re-tool the Suns for that span thn its worth it.

Felton + 9th + Morrison + Mohammed

for

Nash + filler

I would rather eat dog poo than watch a trade that moves Nash for a draft pick, Adam ****ing Morrison, a lesser PG, and a big stiff.

No way in hell.

You just gave away a two time allstar for sub-par role players.

Completely unacceptable.

None of the Felton and the 9th plus crap are going to do it. The 9th is just not good enough. Maybe with Okafor, but otherwise the Bobcats don't have much I'd be intersted in.

Oh yeh, why do the Bobcats want Nash?

Key Word: GOOD Deal. Sorry, but two big stiffs who's best days are long gone, a huge downgrade at PG and the 9th pick in the draft doesn't constitute a good deal. Neither does a me-first cancer who the Suns already traded off, a middle of the pack SF and the 6th pick.. Nor does the farce of a deal with Orlando.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not expecting to get LeBron James for Nash, but none of these deals even come close to peaking my interest as being passable, nevermind good.

Nash more valuable than Felton and garbage

Unless you can get a up and coming, young PG stud in return, Nash has more value with his contract expiring in a few years. Get a "quality" back up that can play some defense and run the show taking pressure off Steve and keeping him fresher. Keep the focus on winning now with some less ambitious moves. If it doesn't work out, with Shaq and Nash's contracts expiring in a few years, you have some serious dollars to go after some big name FA's--a much better plan than getting a marginal C+ level guard and a few bags of balls.

Raymond Felton can REALLY push the ball and pass (ranking 7th in NBA in assists) and I'd REALLY like the 9th Pick but Nazr has a pricey (sp) contract. Like the few others, maybe another 1st Rounder or for the Bobcats to sweeten the deal somehow...

Felton is only 24 and for the last 2 years has averaged over 7+ assists; he's got talent; just not sure there are serious discussions - so thats all I have to add.

Everyone can take this report as they want to. I just wanted everyone to know that Nash's name is out there.

What makes you think his name is "out there"? The fact that random fans on message boards are fantasizing about how to get him?

I just don't understand the love affair with the draft. This is not last year's draft, and even if it was, the draft every year is a crapshoot. I also think some of you aren't thinking about what this team would look like offensively without Steve Nash. I know his defense is a problem. But what you lose on the other end of the court by downgrading to Felton or any point guard outside of Derek Rose in this draft is way more than what you are going to gain on defense.

I never want to see a point guard who can't shoot playing for this team. As great as Jason Kidd is, his shooting was a huge problem here. It's the reason you saw team after team... mediocre teams able to stage an enormous comebacks. It's the reason that team could not score consistent once the game slowed down. And that's Jason Kidd. In just about every other facet of the game he is world class. Now you are talking about bringing in a very average point guard who can't shoot? People come on.

well you should put salt and pepper on it, it brings out more flavour.

Nash is an all-time great Sun in my eyes, carried this team the last few years.

But if the Suns will struggle to be a playoff team the years once he leaves.... then f&%k that.

People are getting letting personal preference get in the way of logical business moves.

What do people here really expect Nash to fetch for these days? He is close to 35... and teams who want him will not gut their team, as the purpose is to take a chance on him carrying them deep to the playoffs... they dont want to swap superstar for superstar....that would be redundant... Suns in the other hand are trying to strengthen their 5 year plan... and "fix" their young needs as they are gutted of picks the next 2 seasons...

As I said, Nash is heads and shoulders my favourite Sun today... but if you are a GM and you can have the opportunity to solidify your team's future, you'd do it. It will really take a miracle and a divine intervention for the Suns to win a ring the next 2 seasons...

my fingers are still crossed...
