Damn

For Jeff McInnis and Rouben Boumtje Boumtje??

Thats cheap, especially since Miles has an expiring contract as well.

Considering Miles is this year's Eddie Robinson, it's hard to gauge whether this is a better trade for Portland or Cleveland. I like Cleveland's pickup, only because having McInnis gives Lebron a chance to be a natural shooting guard and concentrate on other things besides court management.

I read that Rasheed Wallace and others were always teasing Boumtje Boumtje and he got really sensitive about it. Don't remember where I read that, but maybe he wanted out.

Yeah, Sheed chucked the ball at 50 feet aimed directly for Boumtje2's back. Nailed him, and he went down hard.

All Boumtje was doing was getting some work done AFTER practice. Seems Sheed was a bit perturbed and perhaps making him look bad.

Boumtje-Boumtje should have told Wallace it was the fourth quarter. Then he wouldn't have been able to hit a thing.

Unless Boumtje-Boumtje turns out to be a player, this is a steal for Portland.

McInnis is a decent scoring guard but I don't see him as much of a PG. I guess he's halfway between Kevin Ollie and DaJuan Wagner, so I'm not sure how much the Cavs gain here when everybody's healthy (Wagner usually isn't, I suppose).

I still think that Miles could be a real player if his shot ever comes around. The Blazers have another 1 1/2 years to find out while they're waiting for summer 2005.

Now that I think about it, this trade might clear the way for the Cavaliers to move Wagner. Isn't Paxson the same guy that drafted him just a year and a half ago, though?

It's weird though. Blazers have already highschool SF projects in Outlaw and Woods, and now the underachiever Miles? I guess they are just going for his cap room here!

Maybe they think they can still get rid of Ruben Patterson.

Or, possibly, the cap room next year is all they're looking for.

Boy, that Miles/Andre Miller trade from a couple of years back seems like a complete wash for both sides now, doesn't it?

Thomas in New York wanted Miles but could not work out a trade with Cleveland.
Maybe this will work out with New York and Portland now?

I guess we'll see if McInnis can play point. He looked pretty good against the Suns and has one more year on his contract. Ruben BB is just ballast (his contract runs out this summer).

When he was with the Clippers, Jeff McInnis was one of the most underrated and efficient point guards in the NBA.

I remember.

The problem is, he did it playing Clippers ball--frenetic, undisciplined, and he always had the green light. Kind of like Ricky Davis last year, now that I think about it.

I'm trying to figure whether the McInnis of a couple of years ago would be a good thing or a bad thing for the Cavs right now. To me, it's a tough call...

I think the Blazers were mostly interested in getting another expiring contract (they are second only to the Knicks in salary) while the Cavs wanted to get something rather than just let Miles go this summer. I'm guessing there are other deals to follow for the Cavs.

Although I have never really liked Miles I agree.

This trade simply can not turn to be bad for POR.

The cap room will be nice for the Blazers, but Miles is a lost cause. Print that. I like the trade for the Cavs.

Miles is still young and Cheeks is a good coach.

A good coach? Seriously?

I don't think he's horrible, but he's certainly not in the upper third of NBA coaches. He hasn't done jack with those delinquents in Portland. Granted, a lot of it is not his fault, but he has a hard time just keeping control, let alone winning games.

Portland gave up next to nothing for a player who might pan out. If he doesn't pan out, Portland walks away. How much additional money does it cost them, a few million? That's clearly worth it from the Blazers' standpoint.

Ok, that might mean that the Blazers "won" this trade. But I'm not sure that it also means the Cavs "lost" it. Are you?

You're awfully fond of asking me whether I'm "sure" of things. The answer is always No.

That said, I don't think it's a very good trade for Cleveland, but that's because I don't think much of McInnis. He had one decent season with the Clippers but other than that is a journeyman scrub. Cleveland saves a few dollars this year, but they're stuck with McInnis for next year -- they could have let Miles walk this summer -- so it's not even a very good deal for them financially. And in terms of talent, one suspects that they could have gotten a better offer for Miles from another team.

And in response to your next question, no, I'm not sure that they didn't try.

However, I do agree with your basic sentiment that Miles is unlikely to amount for much. I frankly never thought much of him in the first place, but that's because I'm not all that big on "potential" as a way for evaluating a player's value.

You always carry on conversations in a civil manner, don't you? I merely asked you your opinion. That's all. You didn't need to use that "lecture tone".

Your tone sounded confrontational to me, so I thought I should be thorough in my answer. There's no lecture.

You said that the Blazer win this trade, I said I didn't think the Cavs lost it, and asked what you thought. That's it.

You obviously have a lesser opinion of McInnis than I do. That said, I don't think you're going to see a dropoff on the Cleveland side in statistical accumulation in games. As for Portland, who knows? They get a questionable talent who is off their cap at the end of the year. And that is a good thing.

My whole point since the trade was in defense of the Cavs, who have been accused of really tanking this trade. I don't agree with that. I don't recall ever criticizing the trade from the Blazer point of view. I don't think Miles will ever really help them, but I can see why they made the trade.
