Who cares what their fans say. As soon as the Cardinals lose a player, this board is full of people talking about how "he wasn't that good anyway, good riddance." Even for Boldin, Rolle, and Dansby. Happens every time.
Good point.

Checking Green Bay forums the fans seem less than worried. Refer to him repeatedly as the worst of the starting 5.

Yay!!

Great signing.

:(

Have we not learned to not trust fans of out going players. Outgoing players are always under valued by 90% of fans as they leave.

without a doubt better then their center and RG, Wells and Witton, and you are now asking yourself WHO and WHO.

Where is that Packer fan who posts here?

Hi

Scouting Repotrt on College:

- A player with decent physical tools but isn't always motivated. He plays his best ball when there's a competent guy behind him ready to take his spot. Early in the year he was okay when there was thought that Bulaga might end up playing Guard this year but when Bulaga was forced into starting at Right Tackle, Colledge's production visibly dropped off.

- He's a horrible run blocker. There's no ifs, ands, or buts, he lacks the strength to move people off the line and open up holes. He and Brandon Jackson are the reason that the Packers couldn't run the ball at all this year.

- As a Pass blocker he's okay. When motivated he's slightly above average, when not he slips below average, and because he's a liability in the running game he becomes a very bad player.

- He wouldn't have been starting this year if not for a wrist injury to TJ Lang in training camp. I'm not at all sorry to see him go. Word on the street is that he felt underappreciated in Green Bay and didn't want to stick around.

Ok, thanks. Sounds like a backup signing at best who will be probably end up a starter just because there is noone else.

Well, he DID start on that team that won the Super Bowl for five years. But I guess by the high standards of Arizona linemen he's merely a backup.

Doesn't sound appreciated at all. :)

FBO graded him out at 16th of 80 guards they graded in pass blocking, 41st in run blocking.

Remember when Fitzgerald threatened to hold out and all of the sudden he "wasn't even the best receiver on our team, let alone the league"?

For the record---having watched a good deal of Colledge---I think he is a very solid player, particularly in a pass happy offense. If you want to read an even more laudatory opinion, go to ESPN insider and read their analysis of him.

Plus---those Boise boys are magic at U of P.

Its a good signign people... not a great one, but a solid one...

Packer fans can say all they want that he sucks and is the worst and all that, but the bottom line is he started 76 of 80 games while there..

Considering it woud be him or a journeyman at our starting LG this season I choose him 100 out of 100 times...

Add one more solid OLman (ala Jamal Brown, Willie Colon, or TYSON CLABO!) and everyone moves down on the depth chart and our Oline will be respectable...

At the very least this is a solid signing, and anyone who hates it is just doing that.. hating..

just sayin..

Steps into Faneca's spot RT @jasonjwilde: An NFL source tells me that @DarynColledge73's deal with Cards is five years for $27-$29 million.

I hope he is worth the $5M+ we just gave him....sounds like we overpaid when Doug Free got $8M a year?? and Colledge is a Guard....There was better talent out there to be had for $5M a year. I do not like this signing, but I hope I am wrong....

If the Cards do sign him as reported, I like it a lot. Especially if the Jeff King signing is true as well.

Look at what these two signings show us:

  1. They went after players that fill major needs
  2. They are grabing young players in their prime
  3. They are going after durable players
  4. They are going after proven starters
I'm assuming that there are additional signings that haven't been leaked yet. Hopefully they are similar to these two.

At least we picked up another guard, I certainly would have preferred Yanda (not sure of his status) or Dahl but Colledge is a good add.

Hey! Looks like we got Reggie Wells back! Who's excited?

Yanda was re-signed by the Ravens.

Knowing you could usually count on him to be there was his greatest value. The head coach really appreciated that about Colledge. He wasn't hurt much, and usually played through pain when he was injured. He is kind of a tweener though between tackle and guard. They thought he might be a LT when they drafted him, but Jared Allen ate him for lunch when he filled in at LT a couple of years ago. He is OK at LG, but he isn't strong or bulky enough to move some of the bigger defensive tackles. I think the Packer head coach liked him for always being available, but I think the Packer GM doesn't want to overpay average players.

Bob Kemp is a smart guy who never pulls punches. He considers this an outstanding signing and "he is immediately the best offensive linemen the Cardinals have"

John Clayton reported, Colledge will sign 5 year, $27.5 million deal. Hearing guarantee is around $10 million.

The NFL lockout is over, to me it's interesting reading all the NFL news that is going on. I am just as interested in the McNabb, Hanesworth, and Hasselbeck news as I am the Packers and Cardinals. I think signing Colledge is an OK move for the Cardinals. He is a good player who is in his prime, but not a great player. I think that is a much better signing than an Alan Fanece who was a much better player but past his prime. You can win with players like Colledge. The packers just couldn't afford to keep him at the price he wanted. It wasn't that they thought the guy was totally bad. I would feel more secure if he was still with the Packers protecting Rodgers in case one of the younger guys projected to replace him flops, but at the same time guys get replaced all the time and teams move on.

Let's take an intermission from Messageboard Dramatic Theater (take a bow cast!) and get back to it:

Colledge
ProFootballFocus has him as the -
22nd best overall LG (43 best overall G).
11th best pass-blocking LG (18th overall).
He was the 57th best run-blocking guard.
He surrendered 15 QB pressures.

For reference
Faneca was the 66th best overall guard
70th best pass blocker
60th best run blocker
Surrendered 26 QB pressures.

For consideration
Deuce was the 67th overall
23rd best pass blocker.
75th best run blocker.
Surrendered 20 QB pressures.

Is Colledge "top shelf"?
Not according to these guys.

Is he the right fit based on measurements compared to what the Cardinals seem to be looking for in a LG?
Seems to.

How quickly will he need to adjust from zone to pull-man?
Really Fast.
