In 9 of our 15 games, the opponents have scored 5 or more runs. You're not going to win a lot of ballgames like that......

Time for Towers to go. He is to blame for this **** team. When season ends fire Gibby and start anew

Remember how those who pointed out the perpetual disaster known as Kevin Towers were publicly belittled as "haters?" That ended fast.

As I've said, I am no fan of Gibby, but to blame this mess or any large portion of it on the manager ignore that its a trash roster.
Everything you said in your post is true. But, through the history of baseball, the philosophy has been . . . you can't fire the team so you fire the manager. There is a legitimate reason for that.

This is not about blame. When Towers is dismissed, it will be about . . . who is the best managerial candidate to put some life into the team.

Clearly, it is not Kirk Gibson. And because Trammel is his right-hand man and is as laid back and not an offset in personality to Gibby, it is not Alan Trammel.

An obvious candidate for interim Manager might be Bob Brenly for the rest of the season. But I would be surprised if he took that on. With the little hair he has left, I don't think he wants to pull the rest of it out.

Still, when Roger Craig asked him if he'd like to manage again, BB did not respond.

I'd be really bummed out if Brenly was to leave the booth again and take the managers job.

I really really like our announcers, I'm counting on Bob and Steve to make this season far more tolerable than it has any right to be.

Yeah, I'm surprised I or the others weren't banned from this forum. Interesting how those who have defended Towers are pretty quiet now.

I was ambivalent on Towers in the beginning, especially after he mishandled the Justin Upton situation and got prison raped in the process. Then, he started dealing pitching prospects for has-beens and never-weres. Afterward, he realized the error of his ways and chased his losses by making more bad deals. The one good thing he did was sign Goldschmidt at a bargain basement rate (he's worth 5x his current salary).

I think the only solution is a whitewash. Everyone goes.

Based on the talent they have this team is not THIS bad.
They need a managerial enema.

Talent?

Their rotation is filled with a bunch of #4 guys who are pitching like they should be #6 guys. In other words, not in a major league rotation. Their bullpen is suspect as well.

Their offense is meh aside from a few guys.

A terrible rotation + average-at-best offense and defense = a lot of losses.

These guys are way too good to be toiling away in AZ as announcers. I have a feeling that Berthiaume won't be here for too long and Brenly is going to be managing soon. That, or they're both going to leave for a bigger market with a solid team and fanbase.

This feels like a "training" job for Berthiaume. Which is too bad because I really like him as an announcer.

I dont know. None of these pitches are better than a below average #3 starter, a few are clearly worse.

The offense IS producing (we're tied for 4th in the NL in runs), and I think probably better than they will over the course of the season. Goldy, Hill and Miggy (but only because of the low bar for catchers) are the only hitters that I think can be expected to produce better than their positional averages.

I think managers in baseball are of little consequence, and Gibby is not a particularly good one, not an awful one, he is simply the guy at the helm of a severely flawed roster.

That we are 4th in total Runs is a bit misleading as we have at least 2 games more than the other NL teams and some we're 3 ahead. We are just below league avg in R/G and OPS+. This team was projected to be a ~.500 team with Corbin. Take him away and a slower than expected start and we easily look like a 60 win team.

We will have a winning streak or two during the season and might even give some hope. But we will most likely win nothing of significance this year as a "win now" $100M payroll team.

Cahill no longer a starter

About time.

John Gambadoro ‏@Gambo987
Trevor Cahill will not make his next scheduled start, will likely move to bullpen. Either Bo Schultz or Mike Bolsinger will replace him.

I dont know. By all accounts the organization is a great one to work (unless you refuse to wear polos ;)) for and Phoenix is an very desirable area for men of their ilk and age to live in. I could perhaps see Steve jumping ship, or at the very least catch on nationally and start splitting time with us and one of the game of the week broadcasts. As for Brenly, unless the Giants (who he seems to have a soft spot for) came calling, I don't get the impression he'd want to deal with the headaches of being a manager anymore.

Well, I'm not disagreeing that we look like a 60 win. I've made it abundantly clear that I thought we were heading for destruction for a few years now. But, like I've said, thats because the construction of the roster, not its use.

This is his 3rd year Give him a chance. Give Harkey and Duncan a chance to improve the rotation.

By midseason if they don't improve then fire them.

Let's make a bet. Dbacks win the NL West change my name to rtsunsfan. Dbacks lose keep it the same.
