In 9 of our 15 games, the opponents have scored 5 or more runs. You're not going to win a lot of ballgames like that......
Everything you said in your post is true. But, through the history of baseball, the philosophy has been . . . you can't fire the team so you fire the manager. There is a legitimate reason for that.As I've said, I am no fan of Gibby, but to blame this mess or any large portion of it on the manager ignore that its a trash roster.
Remember how those who pointed out the perpetual disaster known as Kevin Towers were publicly belittled as "haters?" That ended fast.
Based on the talent they have this team is not THIS bad.
They need a managerial enema.
I'd be really bummed out if Brenly was to leave the booth again and take the managers job.
I really really like our announcers, I'm counting on Bob and Steve to make this season far more tolerable than it has any right to be.
I dont know. None of these pitches are better than a below average #3 starter, a few are clearly worse.
The offense IS producing (we're tied for 4th in the NL in runs), and I think probably better than they will over the course of the season. Goldy, Hill and Miggy (but only because of the low bar for catchers) are the only hitters that I think can be expected to produce better than their positional averages.
I think managers in baseball are of little consequence, and Gibby is not a particularly good one, not an awful one, he is simply the guy at the helm of a severely flawed roster.
That we are 4th in total Runs is a bit misleading as we have at least 2 games more than the other NL teams and some we're 3 ahead. We are just below league avg in R/G and OPS+. This team was projected to be a ~.500 team with Corbin. Take him away and a slower than expected start and we easily look like a 60 win team.
We will have a winning streak or two during the season and might even give some hope. But we will most likely win nothing of significance this year as a "win now" $100M payroll team.
These guys are way too good to be toiling away in AZ as announcers. I have a feeling that Berthiaume won't be here for too long and Brenly is going to be managing soon. That, or they're both going to leave for a bigger market with a solid team and fanbase.
This feels like a "training" job for Berthiaume. Which is too bad because I really like him as an announcer.
