Good start as the Diamondbacks are p 5-1. Hope Hellickson can kep the lead. Btw, do you guys think Ahmed will be the starting shortstop all year? I know they like his defense but he can't hit and is very undisciplined at the plate.

Why isn't Lamb playing? Right now Hale is worse than Gibson when it comes to putting a starting line-up together.
I didn't like mystery lineups each day when Bob Brenly started it. Nor when Bob Melvin and Kirk Gibson continued it.

But there is a difference with Chip Hale. Under Brenly, Melvin and Gibson, the players came to the park not knowing if they'd be playing that day.

Under Hale, it has been reported that he sets each lineup days in advance, in order to keep position players refreshed and utilized while using sabermetrics to maximize matchups.

I am pretty set in my ways. But I will have confidence in Chip Hale using modern technology to build a winner while compensating for a weak starting pitching staff.

Chip Hale is not Kirk Gibson. In so many ways.

P.S., the D-backs are leading the Giants 5-1 after 3 innings with Lamb getting a day off.

I hope its because they're trying to get Hill going in order to make him tradeable.

The lineups have been inconsistent but the one constant has been the 3 best guys going 1-2-3. Gibby frequently let guys with terrible numbers hit #2.

Not a bad road trip. Now take advantage of playing at home. Just win the series.

just when you thought the bullpen was going to have to carry the weight for awhile, starters eat some innings all 4 games. nice series, albeit caught the Gnats in a bit of a slump.

Great to see the D backs take the series and good to see the starters do so well

Last week I referred to Hellickson as a potential "mirror image" of Cahill. I was wrong. Hellickson may still not last the season as a starter, but he's got more guts than Cahill could ever dream of...
Good to see Owings coming around at the plate. But Ahmed is an issue... And not sure how we can fix it.

Put Owings at short, Hill at second and send Ahmed to Reno.

Who are you? And what have you done with Lefty? :D

I'm not saying he is a bad coach but I don't understand when a manager does not start a guy who is hitting extremely well. It sure doesn't give Lamb a lot of confidence knowing he is hitting over 400 while a guy like Ahmed can't hit his weight but plays more. That is my beef with Chip, otherwise, I like what I see with this team.

I agree. I would like to see more of Lamb.

They're trying to dump Hill...theoretically, he won't be around much longer. I get that the team needed to see what Ahmed can do at the plate in order to be prepared for Hill's departure.
So when Hill does go - then what?

My guess is they keep running Ahmed out there and hope that his hitting improves enough to keep his glove in the field. Hopefully they can move Hill and then maybe get something (Catcher?) in return for Trumbo.

Hope that Brandon Drury is ready? He has been playing some 2B, so he may be the backup plan with Lamb hitting well.

I'm not convinced that Hill needs to go. With all these young guys, a good Veteran around is welcome, IMHO

Correct. They are trying to showcase Hill as much as possible.

Absolutely. If you guys missed watching that kid in the spring than you really missed something. I have really high hopes for him after what I saw.
