• Lester's turn in the rotation was moved up one spot -- though he is pitching on regular rest thanks to Monday's off-day -- so he can leave after the game to attend his uncle's funeral. Jake Arrieta, who had been slated to start Tuesday, will start Wednesday instead.

• This is the first of six matchups between the two teams over the next 13 days. The Cubs will travel to Chase Field for a three-game series that begins Aug. 11.

• Newly acquired D-backs outfielder J.D. Martinez has a seven-game hitting streak against the Cubs and is hitting .300 against them over that stretch.
