I like the fire and determination that Kirk Gibson has instilled in our players. Even with his using a different batting order in every one of our twenty games this season, except for using the same one twice.

But what does it matter, when the Front Office has provided him with a Minor League starting pitching staff?

Our record in these first twenty games is 8-12.

Each of our five starting pitchers has started four games and here are their ERA stats.

Enright........ 6.65
Galarraga.... 6.00
Hudson....... 5.92
Kennedy..... 5.64
Saunders.... 4.98

Not only do we not have a top-of-the-rotation starter, but the only ERA among the five which might be acceptable is Saunders' 4.98 for a bottom-of-the-rotation starter.

It is bad enough that Robert Sarver has ruined the Suns as Managing General Partner.

So has Ken Kendricks as Managing General Partner of the D'backs.

Is there something in the Valley air?

Ive been looking really closely at Hudson's stats strictly from a fantasy perspective....cause I have watched his games and it has seemed like every time I turn on the game....he is already getting rocked.

When you look at his numbers, in his first 15 pitches each game....he is giving up an average of .500 and an OPS of 1.267 and 9 of his 17 total runs. That is just amazing, they really have gotta figure out whats going on with him early on and solve it.

I am pretty big on Hudson and think he will pan out to be a pretty solid #2 and Ian a good #3 or 4, but yes, the rest of the rotation is straight up trash. I still do not for the life of me understand our thought process behind the Haren trade. Completely stupid. I would complain more about the Scherzer trade too, but it eventually netted us Hudson so I can't really complain about that because I can see them putting up similar numbers. Hudson's velocity and K-rate has increased this season, but his walk rate has also increased significantly as well. That could be because he is adjusting to his velocity increase or is just off to a rough start. He's been unlucky in regards to his strand rate and there is no way he pitches this poorly all season. Unfortunately, even with good luck our #3-5 are still going to be crappy starters. Hopefully Parker can rebound from TJ in the minors and pans out to be what we all hope he can be, because this rotation needs some help...as does our pen, but what is new. At least JJ locks down saves if we can keep a lead going into the 9th, which is a lot more than I could say about our closing situation(s) last season.

Parker's started 3 games in Mobile. He's 1-2, 12 innings, with an era of 12. Opponents are hitting .348 against him.

In other words, if Parker's going to recover it's not going to be anytime soon.

Don't look at Parker's stats at the moment. The last thing to return from TJ surgery is command. He is working on extending his arm and regaining his command. If he doesn't look good by the all-star break then start to get worried. Right now we need him to just go out every 5th day and continue to get better.

You act like you're surprised that a guy that is coming off TJ surgery isn't pitching well right out of the gates. There's no reason to call him up this season, give him nearly a full year in the minors to get back in the groove of things and then worry about his call up date next season.

Sorry guys, I inferred some of you were discussing Parker as an option this year.

Kennedy mows down the Phillies(best record in baseball), going the distance, giving up 3 hits, zero walks and 10 strikeouts. By the way, the Diamondbacks won 4-0.

How did that happen? I've long suspected Ian Kennedy and Daniel Hudson would be best served pitching in places in high humidity, where their off-speed stuff can really bend. Maybe the cranked up the evaporative coolers tonight. Hmmmm ....

A great game by Kennedy. Following two days of limited sleep upon the birth of his first child.

It was good to see the D'backs stake him to an early lead so he didn't have to pitch under stress, too.

Randy Johnson and Brandon Webb didn't have any problem with their breaking balls.

Definitely a nice game for Kennedy. The crowd roared when he came out for the eighth and ninth innings. Good for him.

I throw out a silly comment and I get this. Being a D-Backs fan isn't much fun these days, is it? But if we're actually going to have this discussion ...

Randy Johnson threw so hard it didn't matter where he pitched. Webb had that nasty arm motion that ... well, let me know when he pitches again.

If you throw a lot of sliders or sinkers -- especially sinkers -- you definitely love the humid days. The ball is heavier and responds more to the spin. It's why the Rockies started keep their game balls in a humidor.
