Well...The Dbacks return back to the confines of the BOB which hasnt been exactly the friendliest for them as of late, but let's hope they can dominate the Astros so they can finally eclipse the Padres in their race for 1st...

The Dbacks took 2-3 of games from the Astros in Houston during their first '05 series by the following scores:

5/17: Astros: 3 Dbacks: 0

5/18: Dbacks: 7 Astros: 6

5/19: Dbacks: 6 Astros: 1

In fact... here's that series thread to refresh everyone'e memory.... Let's hope the Dbacks offense can massacre Clemens like they did today to another future HOF'er Maddux.... This most certainly without a doubt is the most crucial series of the year...Will definitely set the tone for the Dbacks homestand, but also if they want to fully prove that theyre contenders rather than pretenders in this divisonal race, so it will be extremely intriguing to follow/keep track/watch as everything develops....

While it is unlikely, if we can steal the one against Clemens we stand a great chance of sweeping the series.

I'm hoping they have at least 30,000 at tomorrow's game.

If you only looked at the opposing pitcher's ERAs, you'd think this would be the case. However the two pitchers following Clemens have both had three consecutive quality starts and the Astros have only lost three series since the beginning of June, two of which were to the NL leading Cardinals.

The D'Back starting pitchers have pitched very well the past few weeks also.

Until the 7th inning. Especially Webb who falls apart after 6.

True, but the DBacks are not 42-18 in their last sixty games as the Astros are. My point was that even if we manage to get past Rocket tonight, I still think it's going to be tough to sweep Houston. Whichever way it goes down, I think we have to go 4-2 on this homestand before nine on the road against Florida, Atlanta, and St. Louis.

The way the Astros have been playing, I'd be more than happy if we took 2 out of 3, let alone a sweep.

2-1 Astros bottom of the 6th. Vargas pitched well but Roger has been sharp since Tracy's home run.

Valverde looked great again, striking out 2 in the 9th. Need two runs to tie.

Crap, what a way to end the game. Pitching sure did not lose this game. Diamondbacks are now one game out as the Padres won.

Glaus made a rookie mistake. I might have understood had the Dbacks been down by one run but he never should have been taking chances down by 2.

If Green's shot had gone for a double (and it looked like it might) and Glaus didn't score, there'd be criticism.

I don't fault him for running.

It was funny in the previous game (or was it the one before that) to see Clark and Glaus (two big guys) lumbering around the bases . . . and both scoring on the play.

Padres lose 9-8 as the Pirates score a run with two outs in the bottom of the 9th. Let's get a win and get back into first place.

Bases loaded one out and Snyder thinks he can go deep by swinging freely and striking out. Not one of the pitches thrown to him were strikes.

5-0 Astros in the 6th. Defense breaks down as Glaus and Jackson make errors that keep the inning alive.

Glaus, Gonzo, and Jackson made errors in the sixth. Good thing Conor's was the third E, because he looked darn near suicidal afterwards as it was - Like his puppy died or something.
Not that it mattered, actually - a shutout is a shutout no matter how they scored their runs. (btw - do we still think Conor shouldn't be in Tucson polishing his defense? I have said all along this is a premature call-up.)

The team had that glazed, lackluster look again - what the heck happens to them? Astacio throws 81 pitches in 5 IP, vs 108 for Javy in 5.2. Why do they not make these mediocre pitchers work their tails off???

The players were not patient at the plate. Astacio was not throwing the ball over the plate but the D'Back hitters were swinging anyway. They should of had a lot of walks last night.
