One game down... and HUUUUUUUUUGE shocker. Collmenter does not have the makeup to be a successful starting pitcher. I mean... wow, real stunner there. Who woulda thunk. Yeah, it didnt really pan out the first several times they tried him as a starter, and the issues that kept him from being a starter (mainly that he only throws two pitches) have not changed. But I figured this time woulda been different.

EDIT: HA! I called them the Cubs... the blur of runs and loses is getting to me. Apperently desperate times also call for stupid thread titles. Can a mod fix this for me?

Wasn't a great start by Josh, but it wasn't horrendous either... 5 hits and 3 runs in 4 innings... Meh... He was yanked mainly because Gibby wanted to get Bolsinger a bunch of innings...
Our offense is putrid... The team looks spent, lethargic and un engaged.... Gonna be a tough year for sure...

Well, Arroyo just gave up 3 in the first, probably Gibson's fault.

At least we only owe Arroyo like 25 million. I mean, who woulda thunk that an older player, with weak stuff who gives up more homeruns than anyone in baseball would struggle here.

Another great Towers signing. Luckily he only gets $13 million a year for 2-3 years. :bang:

I really believe coaching is a serious issue with regard to the pitching... Out pitchers simply can not locate at all! W read the. Shots in walks and batting average against. I'm so tired of watching opposing pitchers keep the ball down, down, down... And our guys throw meatball after meatball... Sickening...

Never, and I mean NEVER have I turned off and walked away from as many D-Backs games as I have this year. Worse, it's only April 15th.

I may not watch another game this year, unless Bradley gets called up later on.

Just pathetic, sad baseball.

Bye KT. Thanks for trashing a franchise.

That has to be the funniest quote of the year. You must be related to GM Kevin Towers. Its the manages fault for trading all the good young guns for these over the hill pitchers.

Arroyo and Putz are the only "old" ones. The rest of the staff is pretty young. Nice shot at a dig though.

And to add serious injury to insult, we have 3 hits thru 8 innings...2 of which are weak infield hits. Either KT or Gibby, or both, will be gone soon. Ain't no way they can survive this crap storm!

Miley is ok and Collmenter is great when not in the rotation. The others aren't old; they just are mediocre at best.

McCarthy's resume was dubious before he got here. He has never been able to eat innings, last season's 135 innings was the 2nd MOST he'd ever thrown in a season. In Oakland's pitcher friendly turf he pitched okay (on the rare times he was healthy), but when playing in Texas's not so pitcher friendly park he stunk.

Outside of a career year in 2010 Cahill has always been an iffy starter, who had spotty control and a really scary WHIP. He also has seemed to get fatter every year. But even so, they really needed to be more patient with him. Yanking him from the rotation this fast was stupid. Its not like they have any viable replacements, and last year he started out like crap but slowly pieced it together, they have to let him work things out or let him totally fall apart. Yanking him for equally incompetent starters was stupid.

Both he and McCarthy were brought in because of Towers stupid infatuation with sinkerball pitchers.

An infatuation he made a complete reversal on when he signed aging home run machine Bronson Arroyo. I haaaaaated his signing. The guy is an awful fit for our stadium, reading about his constant decline in velocity over the last few years was an ominous sign. Arroyo was medicore in his good seasons and terrible in his bad ones.

Miley has looked like Miley usually does, unless the pressure of being the "ace" of this joke of a rotation ends up breaking him, I think he will end up with an ERA in the low 4s.

Collmenter looked fine as a reliever, he is not a starter and should not have been put into the rotation.

And its worth mentioning that KT fired last seasons's pitching coach, despite Miley and Corbin crushing expectations and the rest of the staff doing about as well as could be expected with their low talent levels. The alleged reason Towers fired Nagy? He didnt order our pitchers to bean enough batters.

I will not mourn Gibby's departure but this is not his fault. Kevin Towers absolutely destroyed the depth our organization had in pitching talent, he swapped out young guys for older, expensive guys who had, at best, established themselves as back end starters.

This rotation would look a hell of a lot better lot better and about 20 million cheaper with Skaggs and Kennedy in it but both players were shipped off because our GM is to freaking stupid and impatient to let players work through struggles. Hell, even Holmberg (who 82cards laughed at me for being annoyed that we gave him away for literally nothing) would provide more hope than this disaster. He is 22 and had a 2.75 ERA in AA last year.

Maybe firing Charles Nagy again would fix things. Or maybe they still are not hitting enough batters.

Or maybe.. just maybe, Kevin Towers is an idiot.

Give these new coaches a chance to work their magic.

We need to close the roof. Schilling wanted to close the roof when he pitched.

Agree. However, even mediocre pitchers can be taught to keep the ball down... Our guys cough up meatballs on a routine basis. It's the reason why we are so shockingly ahead of the rest of MLB in starting ERA... Yea, our rotation is mediocre for sure... But we're not nearly as bad as our current ERA suggests... Coaching has a ton to do with it...

I've tuned in to a total of about 5 minutes this year. (A replay of the Dodgers game in Australia.)

I don't think I've ever had less confidence in a baseball team.

What a craptastic start to the season... We finally get a pitcher to go beyond the 5th inning, and all our offense can muster is ONE lousy hit thru 5. On our way to being swept by the lowly NY Mets... Wow!:mad::bang::bang:

McCarthy goes 5 2/3rds and tosses 104 pitches. The Mets' Gee is at 5 2/3rds and is at 60 pitches!
The suck stats are literally unending...
