I've seen this before. When your bullpen is struggling teams get in a mode where their only motive is to get the starters pitch count up and get to the bullpen. And they are struggling right now.

It's not really Haren's fault but I stand by my assertion that pitchers that can't go over 100 pitches and/or finish games should not be considered elite.

So 105 isnt more than 100??? Im confused....

Anyways, if the score were 6-1 in favor of the D-Backs, im sure Haren would have at least pitched the 8th.

Take a look at the history of pitchers. Most starters are not finishing games as frequently as they used to. The only two pitchers that seem to finish games these games are Ben Sheets and Roy Halliday. Just because Haren hasn't ompleted 5 games this season doesnt mean hes not elite material. He started last season's all star game for Pete's sake.

While I empathize with your frustration, I dont see the basis of your argument

0 earned runs in 7 innings and you partly blame him?

First, it probably wasn't his call. Second, when your arm hasn't been conditioned for years to throw 120+ pitches, you can't just expect to all of a sudden be effective when you have reached 105+.

It's the nature of pitching in today's game. It's about money and the value of a starter's arm.

The D-backs scored a measly 3 runs on 7 hits... They're offense has completely dried up. How anyone can blame the pitching is beyond me. This team is still in first place ONLY due to their pitching...
Young, Byrnes, Upton, Drew, etc... They have ONE friggin starter batting over .300! There are only 7 teams in ALL of MLB that have a worse on-base % than the D-backs... Only three teams have a worse team batting average! There are only 10 teams that have a better team ERA! Only 4 teams that have a better team WHIP!!!!!
And yet, someone is insane enough to go after Haren??

To think this team gave up on Carlos Quentin in favor of Eric Byrnes.:bang:

Carlos just hit his 19th homer tonight to put the White Sox up 1-0 over the Cubs.

Yep. That's Melvin not Haren. Of course Haren thinks he can go. It's ******* Bob's decision to trot him out there. So sick of his sorry ass.

Flash back to the first game that Haren pitched in South Florida this season. He pitched six innings and Melvin let him bat for himself in the top of the seventh. Haren did not get on base and the Marlins took him to town in the bottom of the inning. Meet Mr. Wes Helms! Melvin should have pinch hit for Haren there.

Did Melvin want to leave Haren in there a little too long again today? No, but after the game, Haren said he was 'gassed' from the humidity (he threw 105 pitches). Not to redeem him, but you can't put that one on Melvin. But since Melvin can't do anything right, let's ignore that. Uh, now up 3-1 at the 7th inning stretch, SURELY, your bullpen should be able to close the deal. Who to use, Pena, sure. He allowed one run, which is still not a good thing, and Lyon, who is usually reliable (look up his past games this year and tell me he isn't), put the icing on the poop cake. Meanwhile, Byrnes is quietly thinking, "ha! you can't blame me for this one!"

Everyone took a turn being the goat in games this month. Last week, I said they'd be under .500 and still in first place after this trip. At the midway point, they are at .500 and being held up by a putrid division. Now it's the long flight back here to play another team they can't beat.

More and more, it is looking like that 20-8 start was the aberration.
Yes. But with our pitching staff, and if our batters were trained properly, it need not be.

Imagine if 25 warehouse workers came in each day not knowing what job they'd be doing or how much time they would put in. All 25 of them.

Chaos. inexperience. Insecurity. Confusion.

Bob Melvin has officially lapsed into his mentor Bob Brenly's 130 -different-batting-orders-each-season mentality.

Chaos. Inexperience. Insecurity. Confusion.

Brenly's no longer managing. Hmmm.

I understand what you are saying but I wonder if this is not where these guys really are right now in their careers...not saying this team will not blossom into some sort of long term winning team but given the youth on this team, I am not so sure what we are seeing is nothing more than the cost of youth right now.

Melvin doesn't help matters but look at how experienced the pitching staff is vs the experience of most of the hitters. There is a reason why the pitchers are carrying the load.
