Well then he needs some control. When he throws at 100 mph it's too wild, remember all those wild pitches from pretty much anytime we face The Rockies.

But what I want too see is Julio get the days off you guys say he needs and then come back and pitch well. That should be the hallmark of a good closer. That or bring back Valverde, and try our luck with him again.

There is something about this Filthies team that just brings the worst out in us. Maybe their crappiness wears off on us?

Ug, Johnny Estrada does a lot of things well, base-running is not one of them.

I think Julio is simply tired. He's pitched FIVE games in a row, with just 1 day off. I'm putting this on one Melvin for now.

I agree. Melvin (and Brenly before him) seem to have a tendencey to overuse guys who have been effective. Julio has pitched alot recently, and it may take a couple days off for him to be ready to go.

I was told that Melvin was asked about Julio, if he was too tired to pitch or what not, and Melvin said that they would ask Julio and see how he felt. One of the dumbest things you can go by, because seriously, what player is gonna say "I don't want to play today"? A real manager would have made the decision that Julio wasn't going to pitch no matter what, and that decision should have been made this past Sunday.

Just got back from the game. Definitely a great game to be at if you're a Phillies Fan. Great crowd, decent weather and a win. I picked Chase Utley as the Phillies first HR so I won some money off my buddies. :) Good times.

So we're one to one.

Well that was unexpected. Also, we apparently have a major league catcher, but a minor league baserunner. What the crap was with Johnny Estrada not running? and then Cojack?!

Hopefully they'll show some more hussle and desire too win tommorow, since we have Claudio on the mound..... Oh god no, we have Claudio on the mound. Well, the rest of the Dbacks are going too have a hard time tommorow.

I don't think it's that so much as bad teams getting good against the Diamondbacks. Remember the Tampa Bay embarrasment.

Unfortunately we are stuck with this Melvin character for awhile....I still dont understand upper managment extending his contract mid season. But whatever, i think managers can certainly hurt a team, but Melvin seemed to at least get the guys rolling again and we are in contention with younger core coming up to give our veterans a kick. We will be alright. Next year, that will be interesting...

I still contend that they extended Melvin's contract since Moorad and Co. didnt want him to be in a lame-duck situation when the team is in the midst of a pennant (even Wild Card) race.... True.. they're more pretenders than contenders, however, that essentially applies for the remainder of the NL West....

At any rate.. his contract probably is marginal compared to his other respective manager's salaries (cheap) that the Dbacks would be willing to eat it ...especially if the Dbacks falter for the remainder of this season and get off to a horrid beginning in '07....

I still cannot fathom why he insists on hitting Hudson anywhere else but 7th in the line-up when he's proven to excel from that spot... and also he should be playing Quentin on a regular basis since he is immediately becoming the lone 'legit power threat in the line-up....

Obviously I dont want the Dbacks to fail for the sake of getting Melvin terminated, however, the team wont realize its true full potential once he's no longer serving in that capacity...

Is there anyone on this team you do like, don't take it the wrong way, but I have not seem a positive comment from you yet and this team in the playoff hunt. I am a little confused.

Totally packed. Got my tickets about two hours before game time and best I could do was 400 level. I didn't actually sit there though, just did the standing room thing. It was a really great crowd last night. Met lots of awesome people, lots from outta town doing the baseball-stadium-tour thing.

Speaking of outta town, after I got over the bridge and into Philly, I noticed the car in front of me had Arizona tags. We don't usually see too many of those around here. In any case, judging by where they were heading, they were obviously going to the game.

Sorry, for the confusion. I know I have like zero respect since I'm new, but I'll get this out of the way first: I love the team, but they all make some seriously heartbreaking errors and stupid plays sometimes. I'll always love the Diamondbacks, but I guess it has seemed like I do a lot of complaining. I'll make an effort to stop it, though.

My favorite player: I know I'm going to be killed for this, but I'm the last of the Gonzo fans. I can't hate that guy after the 01 World Series, I just can't.

That's what I'm saying. Give him 3 or 4 days off, even if save situations come up. Let someone else pitch the 9th. Then if we go back to Julio, fine.

If you run the same guy out there every day, he'll eventually wear out and you'll start to lose ballgames.

Good start to the rubber match. Gonzo and Connor with solo shots. Vargas was in a heap of trouble in the 1st but wiggled out of it.

Damn, I wish Tracy could move back to first base. He wasn't that bad there but he sucks as a 3rd baseman. He had only 5 errors total playing 3 different positions last year...at least he's improved a little bit at 3rd. I just saw that he had an error today and I guess that's what caused 2 of Vargas' 3 runs given up because only 1 was earned.... can't Conor play a different position? :( The D-Backs, if they lose, are really starting to fall behind again. The Padres are hot right now.

2-5 going into the 9th. The Phils have Gordon out there for the third straight day. Maybe he can pull a Julio.

I wonder the same thing. If I'm not mistaken Conor played 3B in college. Why not switch him and Tracy (Need insight on CJ's D at 3rd). He also played LF but I think we're full in the OF.

Theres a reason why Conor was immediately moved from third base once he was drafted.

How good do you guys expect Conor to be because right now I'd rather have Tracy and wouldn't mind putting Conor in a trade and moving Tracy to 1st...
