Yeah, they are really surprising me, but then again they started out hot last year. Hopefully they can be more consistent this year.

7 runs on a total implosion of the Red's defense.

I'm not as good with web stats as some of you guys, but what I found is they are tied with Houston for the lead in the national league DP's with 36. I know some want to bring up Drew ASAP, but I don't know how you can get rid of Counsel, he's to old to bring a "stud" pitcher in like listed on the other thread, but he's on fire and still playing "smart" as usual.

I don't want to bring Drew up. Next year will be good to bring him up with everyone else. Counsell is doing fine this year. I think the only way to get a stud pitcher for us would be through FA's. I want some of those left handers.

I'm with you on Drew- keep him in AAA unless an injury occurs in the big club or someones performance plummets. Everyone keeps debating on what to do with Counsell and I don't understand why there is even a debate. He's turned into a very good leadoff hitter, definetly our best, and his defense is gold glove caliber IMO. If Drew were to come up this season (and we are still in contention), I would much rather see him play at 2B and fill in for Hudson. While Hudson has displayed a good glove, his bat leaves much to be desired. I have only seen Drew play a couple times and it seems like his defense his above avg. If Byrnes is serious about trading for a pitcher this season, I wouldn't be upset at all to see Hudson packaged.

Diamondbacks win 3-1 and hand Arroyo his first loss of the season. Papa Grande with the save. Vargas and the entire bullpen pitched great!

I love the way they are playing right now. Hopefully this isn't a fluke start but they are beating some of the unbeatable pitchers this season in Maddux and Arroyo and the whole team is playing well. I think they could actually keep this up. Last year the team played like they had no motivation but this year they really believe in themselves.

Still in contention for what? The honor to be swept out of the 1st round of the playoffs? Who cares.

I don't want us stunting the growth of young guys/hurting next year so that we can go to the playoffs and get swept, or (much more likely) be in 2nd or 3rd in our division.

I'd much rather see the guys in the minors get some MLB experience this year, so that next year and especially the year after we can actually be a contender.

So we should throw away possible success this year in order to get Drew 100 AB's??? How can you possibly say if we make the playoffs that we will not advance far??? Byrnes has said that he wants to trade for a starter. What if he brings in a Zito or another top notch starter??? For all we know, the dbacks could win 90+ games this season and getting our prospects experience this season will be an afterthought. Who's saying we can't beat the Cardinals??? Their an injury away (Pujols) from being an average team.

I want our prospects to get experience as much as anyone else but not if we continue having the success we're having. As I said before, I would rather see Drew come up and play 2B because Counsell is too valuable to replace if we want to keep winning this season.

Bottom line is that we're in 1st place and playing great ball. If we keep this up (and add a above avg starter by the deadline) the only way Drew should come up is if there is an injury or someones performance is sub-par

I totally agree with this. If we can get Zito and have him, Webb and those other starters that's a good pitching staff. One that could win us the division and maybe take us somewhere in the playoffs. If we don't trade any prospects i'll be fine with it, but we can compete this year. It is too early to start bringing in prospects. The last month of the season is for that.

Well I guess I just don't really qualify a team that has these players: Gonzo, Green, Vargas, Hernandez in key roles as a "good" team. The D'backs are a wonderfully average team. They are on a little role right now, but its a LONG season, theyll go on a few more slumps and few more rolls and probably end up somewhere around .500.

Im just trying not to be blinded by this certain role. If the D'backs made the playoffs I would be shocked. If they made it out of the first round, I would question the existence of everything I know to be true. I just don't think we have a great team this year, our play of late has been a mirage.

Have you seen the rest of the NL? If we have a shot to make the playoffs you gotta go for it as any team can get hot and go on a run. But that doesn't also mean I think we should trade off top prospects for a marginal pitcher at the deadline.

The D'backs look very strong at this point, the defense is incredible and the pitching has been flat out dominating. The difference with this team from the past 2-3 years is that we are getting good performances from different individuals on a nightly basis instead of 1 person getting hot and then cooling down.

We just beat the best team in the NL two nights in a row and two of the hottest pitchers in 3 days (Maddux and Arroyo). This team has no fear

Oh and I don't see what's wrong with Vargas. He's great as a 4th or 5th pitcher.

Diamondbacks down 4-0. Looks like they will need another rally.

This team is fun to watch. D'backs behind CoJack, Easley and Green score 5 runs in the third to take a 5-4 lead.

Was anyone else impressed by that D'backs little announcer?

He might have a future in play calling.

I am just amazed the El Duque is among the lead leaders in strikeouts and he can't hit 90 MPH on the gun

First off, this is a good argument to have. We are all pleasantly surprised by the success we are having. However, I disagree that our recent success is a "mirage." We play in the worst division in baseball so you can never count out a team, especially us who can score runs in bunches. This years team has proved that they can do several things that dback teams the past couple years could not do-

*While our starting pitching is still shaky, they have been able to eat some innings of late and Vargas and Webb have emerged as great pitchers. Juan Cruz seems to be another great addition since joining the staff. Webb is garnering Cy Young talk (although he's only 6 starts into the season). If Byrnes adds a pitcher before the trade dealine, we could be a realistic presence in the postseason. As MaoTosiFanClub said, we can't make the mistake of giving up top prospects for a avg pitcher. Byrnes must do it right if he makes a move.

*Our bullpen is MUCH improved. We now have late inning arms that are reliable in Aquino, Vizcaino, Lyon, and one of the best closers in the game in Papa Grande. If Medders can regain last years form, we will be that much better

* Our defense is simply awesome. It was good last year but it is great this year.

* We can score runs!!! We have struggled the last couple seasons trying to score runs, especially when we fell behind. We are now scoring 5,6,7 runs in innings and we have proved numerous times that we are never out of a game. This to me is the most impressive improvement of this years team (although the pen is up there as well). We got rid of some bad attitudes and brought in fighters like Byrnes, DaVannon, Easley, etc. and they have showed they can manufacture runs. Everyone was worried about Glaus leaving but I think Byrnes did the right thing by putting is faith in Tracy and CoJack. They are peforming to expectations and will be Dbacks for years and years to come

Daigle hit in knee by line drive and is replaced by Medders. Assuming it is as bad as it looked and he goes on the DL (he didn't even attempt to get the ball and throw out the runner), who will we call up? I say Kevin Jarvis, give him a shot
