So basically a Snyder comic book film. Honestly, I have no idea what they were thinking putting this guy in charge of the DC film universe. I will probably go and see it but man...not surprising....yet somehow still disappointing.

yeah... it's also supposed to be painfully humorless. I feel like WB/DC is about to crap on the best Superheroes/Villains ever, by shoehorning Batman into the world and giving us a Juggalo-Joker to come.

It's too bad. Nolan did such a great job with Batman. To go back to Crapman and to waste his incredible cadre of villains will be a damn shame.

those were fanboy reactions... which you get for every comic book movie.

I'd just set your expectations for low and hope to be pleasantly surprised.

I gotta be honest, I hope it kinda bombs (and by bombs, I mean makes less then 300 million domestic). DC's entire plan has sucked from the start and I don't want to see a super-train of awful comic book movies hit the screen from WB.
I hope it does too. DC got caught way behind the MCU and its catch up plan stinks. With a, what, $250mil budget anything less than $300mil would be a colossal failure. But with the foreign box office I wouldn't be surprised to see it in the $450-500mil range globally. Still likely a bomb domestically though.

unfortunately, I think foreign will be MUCH bigger and likely make it profitable and allow them to call it a W and move forward with their abomination 10 year plan to destroy every DC character people love.

I'm guessing if it takes below 300 here, it probably still tops 800 total. Then again, as evidenced by my avatar, I could be WAYYYYYYY off here.

Careful my friend, you're starting to sound like you've made up your mind about this one before you've seen it. :mulli:

Wow, this is getting shredded, almost as bad as Fantastic Four got ripped by critics.

I saw some initial tweets of people who saw early screenings that said they loved it, now I am wondering if those were WB employees.

from what I have read...they are saying if you are "A"..a comic book fan,...or "B"..a movie critic...you will hate it

but if you are an average joe who loves action movies,...then your going to love it........... they are also saying if you enjoyed Man of Steel you should like this one....

will let y'all know my take on it Friday.

It's getting ripped but not nearly as bad as that movie. F4 was was one of the worst reviewed Superhero movies in history. It has worse reviews that Superman IV The Quest for Peace. F4 got a 9% from RT. This is getting a 37% on RT and 46% on Metascore. That's more like Batman Forever territory in comparison.

Let's see how low it goes though.

reviews from geek sites like Hitfix and AICN are pretty much right in line with the "critics" who are all saying the same thing... a muddled misfire. not awful, but not approaching good in any way shape or form and a blatant attempt to circumvent everything Marvel did to build up their world into the Avengers.

Well, the critics can't lower my expectations any more. Seeing the train wreck Friday morning, and hoping to be at least a bit pleasantly surprised.

Critics are taking a dump on this thing, down to 33% on Rotten Tomatoes, even lower among "top critics". Overly long, overly serious and heavy on pretentious dialogue.

I can't say I'm surprised, I was no a fan of the last Superman movie. I've been planning on seeing this in theaters anyway but I'm leaning towards letting some others get a taste first and report back.

If it's as lousy as the critics are saying this may be the biggest disaster in film history. I'm not saying it would be the worst movie ever, but this thing has probably 2 billion dollars worth of sequels and spinoffs planned. They're already in production on like 4 moves, with another 5 to come after that; all due out in the next 5 years.

The studio would deserve its fate too. Man of Steel was mediocre at best and in light of what Marvel movies pull in, financially disappointing and, if what the critics are saying about the new movie is accurate, they took what people didn't like about Man of Steel and doubled down.

If this movie completely tanks they would have to fire Snyder. Also, studio chief Kevin Tsujihara is also in the hot seat. I don't see how they could continue their investment into this "universe" with him driving the direction. He basically will have tanked two main franchises (Superman & Batman) and stopped a 3rd (Wonder Woman), 4th (Aquaman) and 5th (Flash) before they ever take off. That doesn't even include the two Justice League films.

It's the only way to salvage the DC films IMO.

P.S. I am still holding out hope Suicide Squad is good.

Warner Bros. made a huge mistake putting the keys to the franchise in Zach Snyder's hands. I can't think of ANYTHING that would necessitate such a stupid decision. Maybe the amount of money Man of Steel made?

but it didn't even make that much money. less then 300 domestic and 670 worldwide... for the biggest superhero of all time? A very curious decision to say the least.

I am going tonight to see this movie, we will see if it is as bad as the reviews say.

I am not expecting a masterpiece but I do hope for some good fun action with maybe some humor mixed in.

Umm, no. In the current DC movie universe, comics are serious. ;)

Saw it last night in IMAX 3D, my non-spoiler review.

Overall it was simply an OK movie, worth seeing on the big screen at a matinee price. Nothing special had some cool moments but a lot of stuff dragged out far longer than it should have.

I didn't much care for the "dream" sequences.

The best scene in the entire movie was Bruce Wayne being in Metropolis during the Superman/Zod fight. We pretty much saw everything in that scene between the trailers and the Jeep commercial but it was still pretty cool nonetheless.

I liked Affleck as Batman but I liked him even more as Bruce Wayne.

I liked how they explained Batmans voice change, better than Bale just talking gruffly.

It seemed like every scene that was just Superman (or just him and Lois) was slow as can be.

Luthor was so not the Luthor we see in the comics, a little too manic for me.

Wonder Woman in action got a big positive audience reaction in the theater.

Some of the action sequences were cool (especially the ones involving Batman) but some were so much CGI they were "cartoony".

Oh and I guess I never knew before that Metropolis and Gotham were just across a bay from each other. Anyone else know that?

Too Dark for Kids?

I have a 5 year old boy that is really into super hero movies. He was able to watch all of the Avenger movies without issue. Is there anything in this that would be too much for a young super hero fan?

The Bale Batman movies are too dark and would freak him out for sure. So I am worried this one might follow that same path but the marketed all of the toys at young kids, so i dunno.

I think if the Bale Batman movies are too dark for him this one would probably be the same. Did he see Man of Steel? Same director for this one so expect same type of movie.

I did see some kids in the 5-8 years range last night though.

Thank you! Maybe I'll rent man of steel and see how that goes.

What happened to all the superhero movies for kids? I remember seeing Batman, Ninja turtles, Dick Tracy, etc. as a kid and nobody ever thinking twice. It's sad that you cant be profitable without being super dark and edgy anymore.

I am pretty in line with everything you've said here Zeno. Good write up.

I agree, I thought the whole beginning of the movie was awesome. Not only did they aknowledge that yes, we totally destroyed the whole city in the first moive and that was kindof messed up, but they also gave you a ground zero view of what it was like to be a bystander while that was going on. I thought that was completely awesome!

Ben Affleck was completely fine as Batman and i agree, he was an even better Bruce Wayne. Gadot was totally believable as Wonder Woman imo.

I did think it was too long and dragged at times, and I kept constantly wanting more Superman. Like Zeno I also could have done without the dream sequences. However they did a great job of explaining why Batman would hate Superman.

I love the Brawler Batman so much more than other versions. Because that's how Batman should be.

Eisenberg actually really grew on me as Luthor throughout the movie, until the end it got too 'over the top' but overall I liked his insane version of Lex.

It certainly wasn't a perfect movie, I would call it good not great, but there were some things that I really liked about it.

Really the only thing that was really cringe worthy for me was towards the end: All I can say without spoiling anything is; Thank God his Moms name was Martha! lol

Overall I would say 7/10. Worth seeing.

So... what you're telling me is at the end of The Dark Knight Rises when Batman flies off with that nuke he ends up nuking Metropolis?

What a twist!

I can't agree, because that's not how the movie started. That would have been an excellent beginning, yes, but...ugh, what an awful opening.

I have to say, it definitely met my expectations.
