I wonder what the offered him when he had three cases, since EV = 500,110. If it was $200k+, although being undercut, you'd have to consider it. For $10 and $100 left, EV = $55, so $50 is still an undercut. ;)

I would say that the banker definitely uses the exposed cases in the calc. Next time you are watching, calc it yourself. EV = Value of all remaining (closed) cases / number of cases.

I knew that EV = $55, but $50 is not that bad of an undercut.

My question, Does the banker know what amount the PLAYER has selected, and uses that in the undercutting.... I do not know if they are aware of prize in the case, until it is opened.

I just messed around online with the game and got this..

what do you do?

Play on or deal?

I played on, thinking that because if any number but the million was selected next, my number would go up. I went on, selected the 400k with the next play, and the deal ended up being 227,139. I took that deal.

I got all the way down to 25k and 1 mil and they only offered 367k.

I definitely play on. The EV is $345,060 and they are offering me $227k. Plus I still have a 60% chance of winning more money than their offer.

The show annoys me to no end... and I only watched it once. Some doofus, living with his sister, and obviously in need of money passses on 218,000 and then again on 147,000 and ends up with a tenner in his pocket. People are ********, greedy and suckers. You have a chance at starting anew with 200 g's and you cant walk away? The whole show his argument with his sister was "You know Im the luckiest guy there is" as he kept passing on the offers. Really? Why are you living with your sister, you turd? GARRRRRGH! It might make "compelling" viewing, but if thats what we consider compelling, it speaks volumes about American culture.

Hey I never claimed to be hard to please.

:D

I think that's why I like it, you get ordinary people having to make decisions like that. It's almost like wathing a 20 year old kid from the ghetto have to decide if he should turn pro or not, but the difference is that kid has been pampered for years due to sports, where the people on Deal are just shmoes.

I agree. It's almost tragic sometimes.

There was the one episode where they had a wife on and a live feed to her husband stationed in Fallujah. She had always wanted a white, tricked out Harley. Well, she gets down to four cases, and only 1 was "big money" IIRC. They offer her about 200K AND roll out the Harley which was worth 10s of thousands as well. So, she gets a bike, they can buy a house when he gets back, blah, blah. The husband tells her to take the deal. She doesn't. She then asks him which case to open. She's going to go with that, but at the last second changes her mind to another number. Of course, it's the big money, they wind up getting squat. You could tell she felt just horrible, and the look on the soldier's face (and his fellow soldiers) was awfully glum.

But, here I am, a few months later remembering it. I can't remember much of anything from most TV shows today the day after I watch them.

that's not almost tragic--that is the epitome of tragic. I really think I would have a hard time not divorcing her ******** if I were the soldier. I couldn't stay married to someone that dumb.

looks like the girly looking singer is now taller than the non-girly looking guitar guy, and the girly drummer still looks girly. :)

Someone should line them up and slap them all across the face, 3 Stooges style.

I fooled my girlfriend last night off this show. I log on to their website and enter the contest for the 10K(last night was 20K). Instead of texting in an entry I do it for free online, you just pick all 6 envelopes to cover all your bases.

So last night about 10 minutes before the end of the show they announce the contest has closed, and I go out to "make sure the front door is locked." Sneak into the spare room, and use our phone to call my cellphone, which is the number I use to enter the contest. My girlfriend starts yelling "your cellphone is ringing maybe you won."

Then she saw the display and wanted to kick my butt.
