I think we keep Hopkins through at least next season. The question is what would you do with an aging receiving (will be 32 at the start of 2024 season) with a cap hit of 26M. We have seen what has happened to some star receivers when reaching this age point (AJ green, Julio Jones, Fitz to a lesser extent)

Disclaimer: this is just gauging peoples opinions, nothing more.

gotta at least wait to see if Hop is even the same guy sans PEDs before even starting to consider those questions.
Exactly. He missed 7 regular season games and our Wild Card Playoff game due to injury before being suspended for 6 more games. Guy hasn’t played football in nearly a full season.

Depends what player he is at the time.

But we have been trying to get younger...we have to pay Hollywood...

My guess is we start drafting bigger WR's and we send Hop on to test free agency

It's $22 million in dead money. That's not happening. This deal was always meant to be reworked in some way at this point. I could see them add another year and convert the base the next two years to bonuses. You could reduce next number by $8, then convert and move the off season bonus to the 3rd year and changed to a bonus he will get by smiling and save another $2.5 million.

Your can have him on the field at a hit of $19.5 million or have $22 million in dead money and a hole at WR.

This is the case if he's not the same. If he is, legitimately extend him 2 years and make sure your still lower this years number. Two years gives more flexibility. Make a 3 with 2 real years and you get even more flexibility. This would be his last chance at any real money. He'll be 33 of the end of the current deal.

Hence why I said after the 2023 season.

Depends how he plays the rest of this season.

It was funny seeing the "Keim mini punted on this season". Next seasons cap situation is probably worse.

We have $30m in cap space but only 31 players signed.

They have to extend Watt (while already carrying a $7m cap hit for him).

We lose Pugh. Hudson likely retires with a $5m dead cap hit.

We need to extend Murphy, Allen, Hernandez, Ford, Prater, Lee and a whole bunch of depth guys.

A Hopkins restructure is probably top of the list.

Absolutely this! If Hop returns & there’s not an appreciable improvement to this offense, then throwing big money at him would be a big mistake. Problem is that if his return flips the switch completely for this offense, then he has ALL the leverage moving forward.

Damn that’s crazy. We have to rebuild the entire line while paying three guys big contracts (also throwing Hollywood in there along with Murphy/Allen). Hitting on cheap picks is essential now and why there’s zero chance we trade for Burns.

Agree we’re in a precarious spot, but since when is the entire OL only 2 positions?

We can trade for Burns and sign guys but it's all going to be backloaded deals which forever puts us in this situation.
