We need to talk. Something needs to be done about this contract of yours. I admire you circumstance. You are in a very enviable situation. To tell you the truth , I think the Cards are going to have to ante up a boatload of money to get you to extend your current contract.
I wonder how much it will take? I only can hope as a fan you understand the need to get this thing done for the better of the team. I'm not suggesting for one minute you should take a pay cut. Afterall, the way the NFL structure their contracts is in some ways absurd. I mean a team can sign a contract, but cut you and not owe you a penny. Somehow that doesn't seem fair or right. Thus, gauranteed money is what every player needs to go after.
That being said, I think you can walk in to negotiations and ask for 35 or 40 mil GAURANTEED. You have to know in return the club is going to ask for (at the very least) a 6 year contract. I hope you are open to that because when the 6 years are up you will still only be 30 years old. With a 6 year deal you will still end up making close to 60 mil. AND can look forward to signing yet another extension or free agency.
I have to believe one of your goals is to win a championship some day. As a fan, it appears this team is headed in the right direction. There are still some peices that need to be added and hopefully we can add them this year. That can't happen without you and the Cardinals coming to some kind of an agreement and soon. I'm sure your agent and you understand this.
So go ahead, Larry. Get every penny you can. As a player you desrve it. But on the other hand you need to step up and help this team, your teammates and your fans get to where we all hope this team can go. Heck, many players have done it before. Peyton Manning did it and didn't lose a dime. We want you to be a Cardinal for life and this is an opportunity for you to make it happen. If the Cards are willing to pay you 17 mil for 1 season I would like to think they are willing to do a long term deal that would give you, your family and a couple of your generations all the financial security you could hope for.
