Dell 'bait and switch' alleged

Two Dell customers in California have sued the computer company in a class action suit. The plaintiffs allege that Dell didn't deliver the systems promised, and the suit also names CIT Bank, which handles credit agreements for Dell Financing, as well as Dell Financing itself.

One plaintiff alleges that a laptop advertised for $599 and an $89 printer, cost her over $1,300. Another claims that Dell supplied two PCs of an inferior specification to that ordered. One of the two law firms representing the plaintiffs said it has investigated over a hundred complaints since August.


The suit cites violation of two California state laws, the Consumer Legal Remedies Act and the Unruh Act. Law firms Lerach Coughlin Stoia Geller Rudman & Robbins in San Diego, and Jeffrey Keller in San Francisco will handle the litigation.

Dell declined to comment. ®

I think that people like Dell because of the customer service aspect. My parents are on one as they can always get a help desk person.

I don't understand it myself either....

because Dell has superior components and prices Stores can't compete with Dell because they have more overhead and they also have economies of scale going for them. Also I've noticed that Dell consistantly offers the best quality components in their computers. There are a lot of components to chose from in a computer but if you read the reviews on them Dell seems to always pic the best.

You could go pick up an e-Machine, lol, or get a quality box that is warrantied and supposed to work together...

I just bought a Dell because the box I put together myself kept having issues...I was tired of tryin to figure it out and waste money on things...so just bought a new Dell.

I love it.

Yeah I used to by all the components myself and put my own box together before Dell used to give the best components. It was also cheaper to do so but now there really is no reason. I can get a Dell cheaper and it has all the components I want.... Many of the other computers on the market suck..just look at what Dell puts in their computers and look up reviews on cnet or something, I bet they put all the best in there...as for one of those emachines...not so good..how do you think stores can compete when they have to pay for overhead and shelf space? Also with Dell having more resources? They can't...

I would still rather put my own machines together.... I just make sure I buy quality parts and keep receipts. In 13 years of building my own, I've only ever had one component go bad.... An AMD Processor, and for my trouble, they upgraded my processor free of charge when I sent it in on warranty.

I'm competitive pricewise when I build my own. My problem with the "ready-mades" is that there always seems to be something that's not quite good enough or not quite what I want (like an 80gig ATA100 hard drive). When I build my own, I watch for sales (I purchased an AOpen 16x dual layer DVDRW for $39). Dell's reputation has been quite good over the years, and if I were to buy a ready-made, it would probably be a Dell.

However.... I remain an old dog.....

I used to own a Dell, and I have bought them in bulk for several jobs I have worked at. Don't have anything against them.

But I still make my own machines for personal use and gaming. Mainly because I just enjoy doing it I guess. And I can make sure I build it exactly the way I want it and with the exact parts I want.
