Jim Mora fired as well.

Bring him in! I think he's learned his lesson and can be a really good coach with the proper talent. His failure in Atl was mostly due to the owner being in love with Vick and Mora couldn't change Vick to a pocket passer. He could do wonders with Leinart and actually having receivers that can catch the ball. Also, he'd bring an Oline philosophy that most of you are clamoring for...THE ZONE BLOCKING scheme.

I hate to say I told you so, actually I don't mind saying it that much, but during Green's first year here I said my opinion was always, don't like him, won't get the job done, but the next coach will inherit much more talent than Green inherited from Mac. that's what we're seeing.

mac left an unusually small amount of talent, and high picks which made it easier on Green to assemble talent. But as the talent improved, the product on the field didn't. So now we need to hire someone that can continue to assemble more talent, and coach the existing talent.

Pretty good situation, new stadium, 2 great Wr's, outstanding young QB, some talent on defense, 5th pick in what figures to be a pretty good draft. I'll be surprised if we have nearly as tough a time finding a good coach this time around.

As for Atlanta, you gotta laugh, Mora got himself fired when he admitted he wanted the UW job.

My thoughts as well. I was really full of hope when he was hired. He truly did upgrade the talent level on this team. I wish him well.

I agree and another thing I for one am not looking forward to starting over. So let hope they bring in someone with at least similar philosophies.
I thought DG would get another year to try and finish this thing. Now The worring begins...WHO'S NEXT???????????

Watching Arkansas right now...and it makes me wish (a little) that the Cards would have Denny next year. They'd have a great chance to draft McFadden. He's going to be a real stud in the NFL.

"Excellent, since we didn't hire Heimerdinger maybe we can get him as the OC (-:

Very excited, as long as they don't turn Green loose ala Buddy Ryan, and I don't think they will with Graves, I think he can help turn this around.

If only we had the first pick and not the third so we knew for sure we could get Manning or Ben I'd be elated.

Welcome Dennis Green!!!!"

And yet days after his hiring I was getting ripped for criticizing him when we started announcing assistants and Solomon was hired.

My point was this, we made up our minds who we wanted, and we got him. I didn't agree with who we hired, but at least we got the guy the Cards wanted, in the past that never happened we would miss on guys we wanted losing them to someone else.

My excitement then was simple, the Cards set their minds on who they wanted, and got him, that's not something we've done well in the past. This time I hope we hire a better coach.

Don't make me dig up all those threads from Green's first year when Rats was getting mad at me for saying Green was the wrong choice.

:D

I was willing to give Green the benefit of the doubt right up until he hired solomon and then it became obvious the Cards hadn't read Green's book.

I know your stance on Green quite well. If you just could've refrained making that one post, your "I-told-you-so" would've been much more profound! :)

It wasn't just the I-told-you-so it was the "always".

:)

Fair enough. As I've explained for 3 years, what gets me through the Green era as coach is the belief that at least when he gets fired, we'll have more talent for the next coach. I always thought he'd get himself canned because of his personality, not just because he did a mediocre job coaching.

But he never had the really huge problem here like he did with the Vikings. Rowen was a smaller version, there was the rumor in 04 from jurecki that he tried to cut LJ Shelton and the Bidwills said no, but we never knew if that was true. I always figured Green would make some colossal mistake that would give the Bidwills an easy out to can him, never happened.

I am not nor was I ever a fan of Denny Green. However, at the time of his hiring it was a good move. The following McGinnis era, the team was a shambles; really, really pathetic. (and I really liked Mac, but as HC he sucked, way way over his head.)

While Green did not bring the Cardinals a winning season, he at least brought them back to credibility!

My only hope is that the club continues to build upon what has been started during DG's regime.

And please, please keep Bill Jr. away from any decision making responsibilities!!!!

Yes, but at least not near as many people laugh about our roster anymore.

Not that any of this matters, but DG was never given the budget to hire top assistants and he had to make do with unproven coaches. He went with a couple of "his guys" because they were cheap and loyal. The talent was brought here, but without top quality coaches teaching them to execute in the trenches, that is what cost DG and this staff there jobs. DG was never an X and O coach and I think everyone knew this going in. The Bidwills set him up to fail but DG didn't see it that way. He felt he could make a difference. He got enough talent to come here to give fans hope and he got lucky on the MattyHollywood draft so the next staff will have some good things to work with. If and it is a big IF the Bidwills can keep there hands off the coaching side (which they did pretty well with DG here) then things might change here. If they do not then it will be the same old song and dance for the Cards. As for our arguements when he was hired, I argued for DG record in Minny and his talent building, which he accomplished here, I also had a personal tie with one of his guys that coaches here and felt that he could do his job, which for the most part he did. Bottemline is that as usual, the Cardinals did not win enough to keep this staff around. One more year might have been enough with Matt getting experience this year but we will never know. The thing I do not want to hear from anyone is the Pete Kendall thing. He went behind the backs of the coaches to the union and complained. DG was right to cut him. DG made several mistakes but that wasn't one of them. He had to stir things up to get the most out of B talent. He got talent on the roster but it was to little to late. I could see a Jim Mora Jr. type comeing here and getting this group over the top. Norm Chow could keep this offense going in the right direction. Should be interesting.

I can't remember where I read it but I know I posted it here at the time. The NFL has a "whistleblower" policy which allows players to make complaints somewhat anonymously, and "without fear of retribution." Simply put, both Green and PK deny that's why he was cut, and the if that WAS why he was cut, the players union and PK would have nailed DG and the Cards with a lawsuit so fast it would have made us all dizzy.

He cut PK because he didn't think Kendall was buying into him. Wylie hated Kendall because he refused to move back to guard, and because he felt Kendall was lazy(originally I thought Wylie and Green disagreed on PK, they didn't, it was blocking schemes apparently). Green simply realized you can't have a "leader" on your team, who doesn't buy into the coach.

In the end I understood why Green cut him, didn't agree, felt he should have resolved it some other way(including a trade) but I'd be very surprised if Green cut him because he turned Green in, because that's a blatant violation of the whistleblower policy and the Cards would have been nailed to the wall for it.
