A weak draft? With hindsight, maybe. But that draft was touted as being a strong draft. Fultz, ball, JJ considered a big three, Tatum, Fox, Isaac, Dennis Smith jr, and markenaan considered not far behind. And then it also gave us Mitchell, OG, Kuzna, Hart, as well as some 2nd round gems.

I don’t remember it being touted as a strong draft at the time. It certainly has turned out much better than expected. As for Jackson I’m not sure how he could be thought of going top-5 in this hypothetical. We’ve been talking about not trading him because his value has tanked.

Last week I was watching the Bucks feed on league pass and they had an ad for a place selling ice fishing gear.

What the hell do people do in Wisconsin in January?

They probably do paintings for 3 cent stamps as well.

Actually it might be accurate to call him top 5 in this draft as is.

Really it is Zion, Barett - and then a big drop to people like Bol Bol and Morant, then wishful thinking like Little and Reddish. Josh fits right in with the latter 2.

I'm sure there will be good players after the top 3 or 4, it's just the odd's of identifying them is going to be slim.

Ok so it really nothing to do with JJ and everything to do with how bad the drop off is after Zion. I suppose you can make that argument.

If there was a 2017 re-draft how many guys go before JJ?

It's mostly about the meat of this draft but it's also probably a little to do with the obvious up-side of Josh. I know it's probably more delusion than reality but I cling to the fact that NBA GM's when polled did not expect him to be the top rookie but they did expect him to be the best player from that class after 5 seasons.
