Green coming in to interview for Raiders job
David White - San Francisco Chronicle
Tuesday, January 16, 2007
Former Arizona Cardinals coach Dennis Green is scheduled to arrive today in Alameda to interview for the Oakland Raiders' head-coaching job, a source close to the search said Monday.
Green hopes to replace Art Shell, who was fired Jan. 4.
He coached the Minnesota Vikings from 1992-2001 and was hired by the Cardinals in 2004. Green was fired after Arizona went 5-11 this season.
In Minnesota, Green worked with Raiders wide receiver Randy Moss -- who reiterated his desire to be traded in a weekend interview at a college all-star game.
The Raiders interviewed USC assistant head coach Steve Sarkisian, former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel and Raiders defensive coordinator Rob Ryan for the position last week.
By interviewing Green, the Raiders would satisfy the Rooney Rule, an NFL policy that requires owners to interview at least one minority candidate for a head-coaching opening.
