DOES DENNY WANT OUT OF THE DESERT?

John Czarnecki of FOXSports.com reported last month on rumors that Cardinals coach Dennis Green might try to get out from under the last three years of his contract with the team. And those rumblings continue to make the rounds as the coaching carousel gears up for another whirl.

As we hear it, the thinking is that Green wants to hit the market in a year when there are too many seats and not enough qualified rear ends to fill them. We also have a feeling that Denny might have his eyeballs on the looming vacancy in Oakland, where Norv Turner most likely will be out the door.

Green signed a five-year contract in 2004 with the Cardinals. He previously coached the Vikings from 1992 through December 2001.

The fact that they point to Oakland as a likely destination discredits this piece entirley. No way would he get the control he wants in Oakland. Not with Al Davis still alive and kicking.

ESPN, the AZ Republic and even Rod Graves have said, straight up, that he will be back next year. These people need to take a hint.

Where there is smoke there is fire.

Rod Graves, yeah you mean the guy who as yet has not contract himself?

I'd guess it's a negotiation ploy more than anything but the rumor not dying means someone keeps running their yap, like Green.

I doubt there is smoke or fire in this instance. This is the just the talk that surfaces after two seasons with a 10 - 20 record.

I thought the Republic did a pretty good job of putting this nonsense to rest recently. And so did Chris Mortenson at ESPN. But hey, if you want to cling to the 'sources' of this story be my guest.

I think Green has doubts he will be able to turn this team around. But he won't quit two years into his contract and I doubt the Bidwills are stupid enough to fire him halfway into the deal.

Agreed about Oakland, he already interviewed there and took our job likely entirely because AL Davis wouldn't let Green have the power he wants.

Now yeah they've added Randy Moss and maybe Green wants to reunite with him but i kind of doubt Moss is compelling enough to give up the power he has here, and getting to coach Fitz.

I don't buy the Oakland rumor at all.

I don't believe Oakland, but I also don't get why ESPN is more reliable than Foxsports or some of the other people who have reported this. Green worked for ESPN for 2 years, but Green kept secrets from then when he worked there, you don't recall ESPN reporting well in advance Denny was going to take our job do you?

Green denied he was quitting in Minnesota, right up until he quit.

I still think what's going on here is Green is getting the rumor out there because he wants to let the Cards front office see he has options if they continue to press him about which assistants he needs to replace. People can think it's Oliver Stone esque all they want but I'm convinced the actual source of these rumors, is Dennis Green himself.

All this report is doing is mentioning the original rumor and running with it. The foxsports rumor was a one liner at the very end of a NFL matchup article, they guy hasnt said anything about it since, it wasnt even a story. All of the other rumors stem from that one little sentence, and as usual the usual supsects of the rumor mill are running with it. If people cant see that yet, they just arent looking hard enough.

The Fox Sports rumor wasn't the original rumor, that was in the St Paul Pioneer Press. And the one that the St Louis writer wrote was not just a copy of the Fox Sports one since it was the first time they specifically named a team Green might be interested in.

AS for the PFT rumor, it was on local tv last night, if Norv Turner is fired, one name surfacing as a candidate is Dennis Green again, on KPIX channel 5 news last night. Don't know if PFT was the source or not, all they said is the Raiders had no comment.

Interestingly the Raiders worked out Rohan Davey the day before we signed him, people were speculating that means Andrew Walter isn't as liked as we were all led to believe, but now the talk is that's not true at all, not only is Collins likely gone, but Tuiasasopo is probably gone too and the Raiders were looking for a #3 QB. The rumor is they will probably pursue a trade for Aaron Brooks as their #1, they like Walter but he's been unable to play because of a groin injury so they can't get a good look at him this year.

I am positive the Fox sports rumor was the first. Then everyone ran with it.

None of the other rumors were copies, rumor mills dont do that, they always lend their own spin on it. But they all read the same.

So if Clayton and Mortenson report the rumor now, are you going to say ok now I believe there might be something to it? That's my point here, if this was a rumor out of left field I'd say PFT made it up. But this rumor has been around for so long that you're right, FOX was before the St Paul rumor. PFT didn't make this up they are just hearing the same stuff FOX is hearing and now Bay Area people are hearing.

IF ESPN reported it, the people who doubt it now would just say ESPN is just repeating the FOX rumor. ANd people who believe this story has some legs, like me, would say see even ESPN is reporting it now.

I don't care if he could or would ever go to x or y or z team.

He dosen't either, all he has to do is convince those above him it's possible for it to have the effect he wants.

I'd bet something he wants is being thwarted and as a counter punch he's letting this stuff float out there so they think twice.

It sounds to me that someone is enjoying this little tidbit floating out there without having to do much to let is swirl.

Completely off track Russ and not true at all. Especially since 2 of the more reputable scources, ESPN, and the local media have already completely discredited it as baseless crap, and backed it up why it was crap. This rumor is still out of left field and until a more reputable scource says anything other then the rumor is crap, it will always be just that. A rumor that came from one sentence in a NFL matchup article that the more notorious rumor mills have run away with.

If this thing actually had legs and wasnt baseless the normal Cards bashers in the AZ media would be all over it in a heart beat. And even though they like to bash they wont without some sort of facts behind it no matter how small.

Now if ESPN and the local media retract that this rumor is crap, then I will listen, until then......

Ok enlighten me, how did they discredit it, I don't get your local media coverage.

I didn't see anything about it on ESPN either so how exactly did they debunk it?

Basically Bickley and MJ are admitting that he will be back. They have no doubts. And for some reason people here in AZ take MJ's word for bond. MJ has no love lost for Coach Green.....so if there was any truth to the rumors he would be all over that story, use it to bash the Cards and Green for 4 1/2 hours each morning. All I've ever heard MJ say, is that he wonders about assistants. Very similiar concerns that are expressed on this board.

Mortenson was on NFL Matchup and I dont remember the exact words the basis of it was that all of his scources are telling him it just isnt true.

I cant find the article but it was in the AZ Rebublic from the most reliable scource of info on the Cards Somers or Urban, a while after the the first rumor. I believe it was posted, maybe someone else knows where you can find it. I couldnt find it for some reason. I will keep looking.

Yeah, apparently they want to bring in an experienced o-line coach to be an assistant to Lindsay.

What kind of experienced coach is going to come in here to be an assistant to someone like Lindsay?

:biglaugh: I guess you were listening that day as well?? I loved how the MJ yessman called in to tell him it was a good idea. What about the idea to force DG to hire an offensive consultant?? Yeah he'd love that.

It's entirely possible someone just made it up. Media types love to stir up trouble but put me in the undecided group I guess.

I have a hard time just accepting that it never was floated out there by someone, I do believe someone flat out denied it.

See you can start a rumor then later flat out deny it ever occured if you do it right, all it takes is for you to have someone you know start it, never actually saying it yourself then later flat out deny it.

It still works for you without getting you actually involved.

Urban told me in email weeks ago that he could not confirm the rumors Green wanted out, and nobody locally in the media was spreading them. I know I posted that much here.

Denny is the face of the Cardinals moving into the new stadium. Just look at all the ads. It's Denny, Q, Bolden, Rackers. All the new stadium stuff has his picture first., Doesn't sound like I'm leaving to me. Forget about it!

To many of these rumors going around. Not all are from fools. Perhaps there is something in the air.
