Manning, Edge and Harrison get some monkeys of of their backs in this one. Too much fire power for Denver to stop this time around. I think Dungy will have them far better prepared for Shannahan's Broncos--and that's what it will really come down to, a coaching battle.

On paper, it's a pretty even macth up, and I suspect that the score will reflect that.

Denver.

Indy couldn't stop Denver's fourth string tailback two weeks ago, this weekend they get Clinton Portis after three weeks off.

Jake will eat them alive with the play action.

I think it's a good idea to take the quarterback with THE MOST PLAYOFF WINS under his belt: Jake Plummer.

Donkeys go all the way.

Broncs will find it a bit tougher to win on the road in the playoffs than in the regular season.

Plummer has a terrible history in domed playoff games.

:D

Actually, I like Denver's chances in this game. But, I'll pick Indy because I think they are due. Also, I didn't like Shanahan's decision to tank the game last week. That seems to bite teams in the butt more often than not.

ajcardfan-

Is that stadium in Irving a dome? It's got turf. Jake has won a playoff game on turf.

Peyton Manning has never won a playoff game on turf...or in a dome...or outdoors...or on natural grass...or...well, Manning ain't won none.

I really don't care Lex. I'll be happy if it's a good enough game to keep me from falling asleep. :)

I hear you AJ.

There is a definate possibility of football overdose this weekend. Including yesterday, four solid days of football.

Most likely it will be the Broncos. Against Houston, the Colts and Manning were flat. James was barely working in 4th Q.
Unless this was a stratagem, it appears that the Colts still have weakness against the run. That the Colts offense can score remains to be seen, that the Broncos can score is evident.

The only prayer that the Colts have is a shootout. I'm not quite sure how the Denver defense managed to shut down the long ball, but they did (they couldn't stop the deep pass against the Browns). It will be interesting to see if they can do it again. For their last 4 games, Colts have been flat for Q 1, 2 and part of 3.

Additionally, the Broncos have perservered against injuries, and difficult losses. This bounds to create team cohesion and drive. Something lacking in the Colts (ibid their liquored up idiot kicker).

Jake has a better playoff record in AZ (1-1 than in Denver (0-1).

Nuts, game was a bore after Indy jumped out so quick.

Manning sort of proved to me he is perhaps the best QB in the NFL. That guy can throw darts, see the field, smart, and is on target. I got a feeling it runs in the family. Eli's stock just increased even further.

It appears to me the coaching staff at Denver keeps Jake throwing those short passes and not expose him to the long ones where he is not so good. This has worked but once you get behind like Denver did those short 10 yd passes will not get it done. On the other hand Manning going backwards and passing off of one foot throws a 30 -40 yd pass and hits his man in stride. Jake had a few batted down at the line of scrimmage, a fumble and interception which is sort of his MO. He is a good QB in the Denver scheme but I am not sure he will ever get them much further than round 1 or 2. Denver will continue in the next few years to be in the hunt but they will have to do it with the run as I do not think Jake will ever be a standout on the long pass and is subject to fumbles and intercepts.

The interesting thing is most Broncos fans will tell you that teh 2 things Jake has done that Griese couldn't is plays downfield and plays when the initial play breaks down(because he can run). After his shoulder surgery Griese's arm is so weak he couldn't complete balls over 20 yards, so for Denver, Jake's actually given them a more vertical passing game. But based on the radio announcers yesterday that was sort of exposed yesterday, he wasn't able to get outside the pocket and throw the ball downfield on broken plays, he had to play in the pocket and it showed.

There was one play they were talking about where he completed a sidearm throw and they both said "you know I honestly didn't realize Jake had a strong enough arm to make that throw, he has problems throwing the deep balls they often seem to hang, but every now and then he makes a throw like that and really shows arm strength." That was a comment I made about Jake a lot as a Cardinal, seemed like in every 3 balls downfield one would be a bullet spiral, one would be a duck, and one would hang slightly, he was very inconsistent throw to throw. Shanahan got much better consistency out of him this year I think he got him to concentrate a lot more on mechanics.

I was thinking the same thing in comparison to Griese. At one point Jake was something like 8 for 8 for 40 yards. I thought to myself, "man, that's exactly what they ran Griese out of town for." Just a little irony, I guess.

But I was impressed with some bullets that jake threw downfield. I don't know that I'd ever seen him throw with such velocity (I don't think they were completed, but they were thrown on a frozen rope just the same).

Anyway, I couldn't have imagined a better game for this Denver-based donkey-hater.
