Braylon Edwards made DA a Pro Bowler. Outside of that season, which ended horribly for him, he has shown that he is prone to making horrible decisions.
:yeahthat:

We've seen them both Leinart and Anderson struggle. Even in Anderson's Pro Bowl year he wasn't that impressive, throwing for 29 TDs to 19 INTs and a QB rating just over 80. Ever since that year his rating has dropped to 66.5 two years ago and 44.1 last year.

ML has waited in wings behind KW without causing any kind of scene and w/o asking to be traded. I'd just like to see him get his chance and if he does end up struggling we have Anderson to fall back on. DA could very well struggle just as much and maybe more if he gets the chance.

Matt Leinart isn't suppose to come in and pick up where Warner left off. That's obviously asking a bit too much. This team is suppose to be more reliant on the running game and less on the pass. Being that way, I don't see how ML has played himself out of the position when he's gone 10-13 for 77 yards and no turnovers. Granted the offense didn't get the first down when he was in there last game(the running game didn't get one either), but I don't see how he is exactly playing himself out of the starting spot.

Now we'll get a chance to see DA start, but he's going to do so without having the best WR on the team. At the very least we'll get an idea of what kind of backup we have in game situation vs a first team defense if Leinart struggles and needs to be replaced. I still expect Matt Leinart to start the regular season and that some are reading too much into this.

I think Whiz feels they have had their chance. On a National Televised game.....Leinart gained no first downs, and putrid yards...and then in his 1 shot threw a horrible pass to a WIDE open receiver.

DA came in and with the same line and team on his first throw. Hit a perfect strike to a less open Receiver. He did miss 2 easy TD throws but maybe Whiz thinks those throws are easier to correct since they were 4 yard passes. We just have no deep threat when Leinart is playing...And dont you think teams will just Blitz the heck out of us...and watch Leinart flounder. Atleast DA does gives us the threat if the defense Blitzes he has a chance to burn them deep.

If the Cards keep trying to block 7 with 5 and let defenders simply run around the Tackles to our QB none of our QBs are going to be a threat, deep, middle or short.

Of course there are ways to beat the blitz besides throwing the ball in 1.5 seconds. And if the Cards are playing vanilla offense I'll bet we haven't seen many of those plays yet.

For example back when Leonard Davis was playing LT opposing teams would line a defender way outside Big's left shoulder and just run around him. That worked for awhile until the Cards ran a few plays into the gap that created and put a stop to it. I know I didn't see much done by the Arizona offense to take advantage of the Titans bringing a DB or LB or two from the corner on almost every play Monday night.

Just wondering where all the DA animosity comes form?

Before yesterday, he was the backup so there wasn't any immediate need to worry about him. Yesterday's events gave everyone the realization that Derrek Anderson may end up being our starting QB this year, and that's terrifying.

With Leinart, I had at least some hope that the Cardinals would come out and be a playoff team again this year; I just can't see that happening with DA at the helm. I just hope I'm right about Leinart leading us to the playoffs, or wrong about DA not being able to.

I guess I have a shred of hope that Leinart could still be our QBotF. I don't have any confidence that Anderson is. If Leinart is not our guy, I'd be 100% happier to get Skelton or Hall some playing time because I'd feel like the season was lost already.

Me too but reality says he's not going to be here in 2011 even if he is lucky to be hear in 2010. You just don't keep demoting someone & expect them to keep coming back for more. I really don't believe Leinart trusts Wiz & vice versa.

With the bonus due Leinart this season there is no way he is back in 2011 unless he has a very good season and shows that he IS the Cardinals QBOF.

Isn't he due something like $15 million at the end of this season? Anyone who doesn't think that influences who plays and who doesn't is naive imo.

$15 million is enough money to give everyone who has posted on the Cards board at ASFN in the past year around $15,000 with enough money left over for beer for several years at the Derminators tailgate.

Yea yea yea I get it franchise QB's grow on trees and Jamarcus Russell Matt is not!
Matt had 2500 yards in 11 games(projecting to over 4000 yrads in16 games) and set a single game rookie record of 405 yards scored 2 TDs in the first 1/4 of his 1st 2 games, one of the best NFL QB rookie seasons of all time on top of 3 straight NCAA championship games in a row as a starter and a Heisman trophy!

The difference between then and now

KEN WHISENHUNT!

The difference between then and now? Kurt Warner. 28 wins, 11,753 yards passing, 83 TDs, two NFC West titles and one NFC Title and 3 years of rust.

I just wish I knew whether Whiz thought he could coach DA up and make him into a more consistent QB with a better arm than ML. --And if this was a consideration when he was signed. I do agree that cuttinh ML at this point is kind of weird. More trade value before going through this ringer.

Barylon Edwards was also a reason for DA's failures in Cleveland by dropping 1/2 the passes thrown to him.

I kind of said the same thing as Shane in the mega-thread about DA being named the starter. I think he will stink but he has done more than anyone on the Cards.

Agreed, also remember that DA is learning a new offense. So it will take some time for him to fell comfortable.

"DA isn't a good QB"

"Yet the pathetic DA people somehow think he should start"

"We know DA sucks"

"the WORST aspect of the move is that Derek Anderson is the replacement"

"This is stupid because DA stinks"

This is just a few snippets from people on this site claiming with absolute certainty that DA just blows.

The thing that I notice about most of them including all of the ones I didn't quote is that most of you that say this have been by far the biggest Leinart supporters.

Most of you are Cards fans and I am willing to bet that very few of you see Browns games. Their not exactly at the top of the list for national games and are one of the worse teams in the NFL over the last decade. So probably not the most popular pick for the average football fans Sunday ticket viewing either.

So what I wanna know is why do you all say this?

Derrick Anderson is equal to or better than Matt Leinart in every passing category for their careers except 1.

Basically equal in the following categories not exact but within tenths of points: YPA 6.4 to 6.5 and QB rating 69.7 to 70.2

Derrick Anderson is better in these:

Win/loss ratio as a starter, TD/Int ratio

Matt is better in Comp % and that's it. Matt is at 57.1 to DA's 52.9. a whopping 4.2 percent better.

While in the long run that isnt much for every hundred passes. I do understand that can equate to winning or losing a game. However I think it would be logical to assume that If Matt had far inferior talent at the WR position and had to throw in Cleveland 8 times a year along with another guaranteed 3 games in the likes of Cincinnati, Pittsburgh and Baltimore all of which are extreme weather states that Matt's % would likely drop. Considering the strength of his arm it might even drop considerably. Doesnt help when DA's #1 target every year leads the league or close to the league lead in drops either(Braylon Edwards)

So what I wanna know is why such the hate and 100% certainty with the DA "sucks" comments. Yet You are all more than willing to ride the coattails of Matt who in real games on the field hasn't really outperformed DA in anyway shape or form?

completely agree with you shane but after last week i saw the writing on the wall whiz brings in another east coaster division foe to roll the dice on ivstead of running what we brung
matt got screwed blued and tattoed here, wherever he lands i hope he lights up the league,
i;ll never forget his first professional pass a beautiful strike to boldin for a touchdown, brought tears to my eyes

I saw Anderson and Leinart play a lot in college and the situations were kind of similar, Leinart surrounded by talent, Anderson not so much. Anderson clearly had the better arm, Leinart was clearly the better QB.

If Matt had been playing the last 3 years I personally feel his numbers would have looked MUCH better than Anderson's did. When Matt was playing the team was in almost as much disarray as Cleveland was.

Much of DA's big year was impressive they were 10-5 with him starting, but look at who he played against Cincy, Oak, Balt(5-11 that year), NE, Mia, STL, SEA, Pitt, Balt, Hou, AZ, NYJ, Buff, CIncy, SF.

That wasn't exactly murderers row for a schedule, he played really well, but he was still turnover prone, 19 picks, only 56.5 completion %. He had a very good year but has been unable to come close to it since then. He started 7 games last season and completed 44.5% of his throws, that's damn near unheard of in the NFL for a non rookie.

I still don't think Matt has been benched, although if he continues to complain it may be the case. I think Matt is being tested.
they past the point of testing him and moved on to shattering his confidence matt was given' a raw deal by this staff and as i said in a previous post i'm left to just scratch my head on this one,
except that someones getting off on whats called set up to fail, we can all speculate who that is was or whatever , but matt will be a good quarterback in this league ......sadly somewhere else

I'm not even going to read the comments on this thread before I post my reaction.

I find the title offensive, sophomoric and not up to the standards of this board.

(Deep breath). OK. Now I'll read what everyone has to say and, perhaps, chime in. Or not. (Hopefully, the title was posted in jest. If so, my bad).

Follow-up Comment: So OK, Shane, you almost got me (but not quite).

As for Anderson - Here's a guy who had one lights-out season before the wheels came off. Playing well for an entire season is nothing to be sneezed at (it's not as if Derek performed atypically well for one game).

When a player flames out after playing really really well, coaches and talent-evaluators likely to be intrigued - Are the problems due to injury, attitude, bad mechanics, psychological issues, poor surrounding cast? Can the problems be fixed? And, most important, if the problems are straightened out, how likely is the young man to play as well as he did for that one ridiculous year.

Based mainly on comments from local media and ASFN'ers, we know that Anderson (a) has a gun for an arm, (b) has lacked the ability to take something off his throws at appropriate times (& know when to gun it and when to float it), (c) tends to be erratic, (d) throws too many interceptions, (e) has trouble moving in & out of the pocket and (f) has been inaccurate throwing on the move.

Based on what I've seen, all of the above comments appear valid, with the possible exception that Derek looked pretty good throwing on the move in Monday's game.

Two things I don't know are (1) with the help of Chris Miller and others, can he and will he be able to make the necessary changes to rid himself of most or all of the above issues and (2) within the first context, what will it take in the way of improvement for the coaches to trust him with the keys to the proverbial car?

The bottom line in all this is: What do we need for our starting QB to do to move the offense and help us win? Can and will either Leinart or Anderson accomplish this?

Personally, I don't care who starts for us - Desmond Tutu could start for us - just so long as he gives us the best chance of winning.

That is a tremendously lenient definition of "lights-out" you have going there. He was 17th in passer rating, for crying out loud. His pro-bowl selection was silly. He was average for one season, not better than that.

You should actually look at that 2007 season before declaring that he played "lights out" for the entire 15 games. http://www.nfl.com/players/derekanderson/gamelogs?id=AND180512&season=2007

Anderson had 5 good games that season. 5. It skewed the results for the rest of the year. Against Oakland he had a 57.2 QB rating. Against New England he had a 59 QB rating. At home against Buffalo he had a QB rating of 53. Against Cincy he had a QB rating of 53.4.

So in 4 of the 15 games Anderson started he was putrid. Josh McCown bad.

How many games in that season was Anderson below average? 75.3 rating at home against Seattle. 83.4 rating at Pittsburgh. 73.8 rating at Baltimore. 71.6 rating against us (again, where he threw 2 INTs and fumbled once in his first 4 possessions). 83.3 rating against the New York Jets. 75.4 rating against the 49ers.

So that's six games where he was either just about average or a little below. Right now 2/3 of Derek Anderson's games were either terrible or meh.

He had good games at home against Baltimore (109.5), at home against Miami--soon to ear the #1 pick in the NFL draft (142.5), at St. Louis (143.0), and at home against Houston (96.5).

So Derek Anderson was good for five games three years ago and has been mediocre or terrible ever since. Very excited about our prospects for 2010. :bang:

On that dysfunctional putrid team?? Seems to me that it makes his accomplishments all the more astounding... just saying.

Here's the problem with this analysis... you could flip this and say 2/3 of Anderson's game were either really mediocre or very good.

Bottom line... we're screwed either way! YAYYYYYYYYY!!!!!!!
