1. Patrick Peterson, CB. Marquee matchup of the game put Calvin Johnson on utter lockdown. Being able to contain the most dynamic offensive weapon in the game for 3+ quarters when the offense was toothless was the most important element for the Cards.

2. Michael Floyd, WR. In the face of a lot of doubters and haters, Floyd re-appeared when the Cards needed him most and generated all the points the Redbirds needed to get the victory.

3. Ted Larsen and Paul Fanaika, OGs. Ndamokung Who?

1. Drew Stanton, QB. Two absolutely terrible picks and three quarters of getting zero points is a problem. The weeks to come will tell whether the NFL has started to "figure out" Drew Stanton. Stanton has to get better if the Cards are going to meet their Super Bowl aspirations.

2. Jerroud Powers, CB. Goats are going to be nitpicky in a game that was more dramatic than it needed to be. Powers missed what would have been a great interception and blew coverage on a completion to Golden Tate that could've proved costly.

3. Carson Palmer, QB. Disappointing that Palmer decided to sit this one out. The rest of the Cardinals captains have managed to come to the game and cheer on their teammates.

The Lions figured him out. Stanton's problem is he locks onto a receiver. Took a couple of drives for them to figure it out but when they did, Stanton became ineffective. This is something they need to work on. As for Ginn, my new nickname for him is Fair Catch Ted.

Real question: Did Stanton look better than Stafford?

Stat line hints he might have despite the picks.

it seemed both picks were on short drops (and on another almost-pick as well) -- and indeed he stared down the intended target from the first step on both

he sure looks better on longer drops

with Smoke Brown on board, i think Tedd Ginn's salary is too high for next year

Frostee Rucker should be listed as a hero each week. He's been a rock!

Our coverage was incredible and gave Stafford fits all day. He literally had nowhere to go with the ball.

I don't think so. I think that Stafford if anything was under more pressure than Stanton was, and the Cards obvs have a better secondary. It seemed to me like Stafford was going a solid enough job moving the ball.

I fixed it.

Thank you!

Those picks worried me a bit, they were both terrible decisions. I don't expect the guy to be completely error free but that was bad--his overall stat line looked OK though.

One of those picks cost us a minimum of 3 points. luckily we didn't need it but 17-6 going in to the 4th Quarter should would have been less nerve-wracking.

Arians said on his "Flight Plan" weekly show that Palmer would be on the side line with the team "once he is healthy enough to be there safely".

You know what is cool to me?

The broncos, lions and colts also need their QB's to improve on yesterday's performances.

I know Stanton has been in the league a while and shouldn't make mistakes like that, but didn't Palmer make essentially the same error with a pick over the middle against the Rams? I'm not excusing it, just saying that even the best QBs are not immune to those kind of mistakes.

Coaches have time before the playoffs :koolaid: to work with him. I'll bet he busts his butt to work on it.

Solid work, and a nice weekly read.

I agree that Stanton will need to play better going forward. We will need more than a couple good plays once we get into the playoffs, and he isn't good enough to make those mistakes against better teams.

Re: Peterson...3-Patrick Peterson is really, really good. That doesn't mean he doesn't need to improve, but that need to improve doesn't mean he isn't really, really good. http://www.arizonasportsfans.com/vb/f4/putting-a-bow-on-some-topics-214835.html Stud, though you could probably put the entire secondary in their.

Michael Floyd over Alex Okafor??? Your man-crush is showing. Two jump balls that he came down with this week rather than dropping them as he has in previous weeks. Give the Oak some love brother.

I agree that the OGs were good in pass blocking, but I'm still skeptical of their run blocking. I know how time consuming it is, but I would love another breakdown of Ellington's runs. I'm wondering if it will be similar to last week where he missed as many runs as were blocked poorly which was a shock to me.

Thanks again for doing these weekly.

I think it wouldn't be as bad if it were just the picks, but basically every possession after the first two went nowhere.

That stuff works at home sometimes, but it's hard to take that show on the road and be successful.

I'll look at the two INTs for Coaches' Film this week. Urban reported in his Aftermath blog post that Stanton just didn't see the linebacker on the first one.

I got into an argument with the old guy next to me about Peterson... when the "Vote for the Papa John's Player of the Game" thing came up, I said Peterson before even seeing the nominees (he wasn't one of them). The guy was like "Peterson? What has he done today?" My response "Only completely shut down the best WR in football."

A little love for Cromartie too, as Tate has had a big year to this point.

Agree with all but I'd add the former Horn OLB to the hero list, he was darn good rushing Stafford yesterday. Powers a goat because he dropped a pick? Come on k9 the dude has been pretty darn good all year.

Did you notice who was covering Megatron with around 8 mins left in the game on 4th down & had picture perfect coverage on the out route? Hint it wasn't #21;)

Peterson has now shut down the best 2 WRs in the NFL. Dez and Megatron. Finally playing up to what we all expected.

We should have no problem with Floyd being on the list. Two TDs after being a non factor and he deserves it. Not having Okafor on the list has nothing to do with Floyd being on it.

Stanton was facing alot of 3rd and longs, yet managed to convert 8/14 3rd downs - compared to 5/15 for Stafford. 8/14 is pretty good - especially on long 3rd downs. So you wonder why no more points - besides the 2 picks.

Running game is still a problem - 1.8 yds/carry - 5.2 for Detroit. Ellington is taking a beating. I don't know how he's made it this far. Hughes had a nice big play. I think he has the 2nd or 3rd surest hands on the team.

I think the OL had the best pass blocking day I've seen so far though. It reminded me of that one preseason game where everything really clicked.

As much as I can see Stanton being on the Goat list, he could easily be on the Hero side as well. He set the tone for that game with his 2 1st qtr Td's. Got us up early and let the D do what it does best- shut the other team down. Being ahead early clearly helped us win this game IMO.
