Really? I can't imagine that there are too many things that would be worse than swinging a helmet (with a lot of force) at a helmet less player. History be damned. If Smith had connected there was a very real possibility of permanent head trauma or even death.
I'm not defending Suh but what Smith did was so far out of bounds that I think that he's really lucky that he only got two games.
Death is taking it a bit far bud. If it were a baseball bat, I would start to agree with you. I guess diving at a players legs with the real potential causing a compound fracture or rupturing an ACL/PCL/MCL is far better than breaking ones nose or mandible.
Point is, Suh has a reputation and extensive history. I think the only way to send a message is to sit his ass a couple games to let this grown man know this type of BS will NOT be tolerated. He's been fined plenty before, and its apparent it doesnt bother him. Maybe if Antonio were in the elite class of NFL D-linemen the NFL would be too worried about its product to sit him and merely double his fine.
Im not condoning Antonios behavior, but it happened in the heat of the moment with a punk player. Suh went LOOKING for this opportunity, and has an extensive history of dirty play. Big difference in my eyes
