I’d rather he find a better mentor than that psychopath. Yes, he won 5 titles, but that was always either playing with an all-time C at the peak of his prime or absolutely LOADED teams for his other run.

And in between and after those runs, his teams were for the majority bad or non-contenders, missing the playoffs or getting bounced in the first round.

Just dreaming a bit.

I'd prefer a player like James Harden to mentor Booker. Harden is the one legitimate super star that might consider the Suns if he were available.

This a snippet from an article written by Doug Haller.

"My whole strategy with James was let’s gradually build it,'' Hurley said. "We’re not asking for anything. We just want to have a place here where you’re comfortable coming back. I know from when I was in my hey-day as a player, people are trying to come at you in a million different directions, and his situation is probably 100 times what mine was. But I do remember what that was like."

Throughout his NBA career, Harden has visited Tempe over the summer. He works out with strength coach Rich Wenner. He scrimmages with the team, which Hurley conveniently slips in during conversations with recruits.

How many all time greats win titles without other greats? Not many.

Dude was a legit superstar at 22. Hopefully Booker gets anywhere close to Kobe’s caliber.

eh... IMO, Kobe is one of the most overrated players in any sport of our generation. Not only was he a cancer but he the thing he was praised most for, his "killer instinct", was actually one of things he was worst at. Kobe was, by any statistical metric, not clutch. The Lakers were more likely to win a game by one of Kobe's teammates tipping in the airball that he chucked while double teamed, than Kobe actually hitting a game winner.

He was a great player, but I think there are a large number of great SG/SFs that you could have put on Kobe's career path that would have had as much, or more, career success.

Fine with me. I legitimately think Booker’s ceiling is Kobe Bryant and whatever he can extract from him, by all means.

Except the rapist stuff. Leave that with Kobe.

Kobe hit plenty of GW vs Phoenix. Yes the Artest put back was pure luck. The next game he had 37 to close us out.

For the record I think peak Wade > peak Kobe but Bryant has the better legacy. A few players would’ve won titles in his situation but not many could drag dog piss teams starting Kwame, Smush and Vujacic to the playoffs.

Kobe was a prick but so was MJ. They resented anyone who didn’t work as hard as them.

Peak Wade was not close. Kobe’s defense is the underrated part of his game.

Rotowire has an early list of the top 125 players in the league headed into the 2018-19 season. Devin Booker is listed at #25 on there. I think that's fair for now. It could be a little higher but our tanking hasn't helped his case. Right ahead of Booker are Bradley Beal at #24, Kemba Walker at #23, Gordon Hayward at #22, and Khris Middleton at #21. I think Booker is better than Beal, close with Kemba, and probably better than the Boston version of Gordon Hayward. I'd say Booker is better than Middleton as well. In fact I'd put all of those players ahead of Middleton.

Draymond Green was listed at #26, right behind Booker, but I don't he deserves to be that low. He's got to be in the top 20. Without him Golden State isn't able to play like they do. He's a huge piece of their success and system.

Other notables, Eric Bledsoe listed at #29, Goran Dragic at #80, TJ Warren at #88, Markieff Morris at #112, and Isaiah Thomas at #114. Surprised IT fell so low. What a difference a year makes. Both Elfrid Payton and Josh Jackson are listed as honorable mentions of sorts. They should make the list next year once the season starts. The list does take injuries into account because Porzingis is off of the rankings entirely since he's supposed to miss all of next season. Hopefully we see Ayton in the top 50 next year and it'd be nice if Knight could show something also, making the list somewhere, probably between 80 and 100.

Bledsoe at #29 is a joke to me. I'd say more in the 60s range at best.

It's a ranking for fantasy basketball and Bledsoe puts up decent stats. Turnovers are excluded and he doesn't get penalized for being a bonehead.

Booker should move up the list as his %'s increase when he gets surrounded by more talent.

I guess fantasy rankings makes more sense.

Forgot about the Team USA commitments. I don't want to risk him leaving. Lock him in ASAP. Don't wait for it in an attempt to have more cap space next summer.

Lock him up now and send a message your committed to him as our future

Report: Suns ready to offer Booker an extension
The Suns are working on a contract extension for Devin Booker, according to ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski. There's a strong chance that Booker receives a max deal from this extension. (10:37 a.m. ET)

Hopefully no 5th year PO. I would not mind if they did a fifth year "mutual option" if that was possible. The idea would be that both the team and player could tear up the fifth year of the deal and sign him to whatever the present max deal is. But he cannot go to the open market.
