Because Collmenter is so dominant at his current role of long reliever and spot starter that by attempting to convert him to closer, you're undoubtedly creating a void in order to potentially fill another.
I would add only that they are not equal voids.

A long reliever could pitch one out of every 4-5 days. A good Minor League starter could fill that role.

A closer pitches 3 out of every 4 saves with the game on the line. That makes it a much more important void to fill. Even more crucial on the road.

Great game i love how this team never quits! It seems like all Chapman has to do is throw strikes and he throws so fast nobody can hit him. I think Kubel is starting to come around to why i loved this guy so much last year!

Although I understand your reasoning and agree that closer carries a premium, I just have to believe there is a better solution than taking Collmenter out of a role he's excelled in. I think we should pursue other options first.

Kubel started the game hitting.275 and Miggy at .218.

Why in the world would Gibby bat Miggy cleanup and Kubel 5th behind Goldy.

With the D'backs down by 3 in the bottom of the 1st, they pitch around Goldy and, sure enough, Miggy hits into a double play.

If the better hitting Kubel was behind Goldy, they would have to pitch him more "honest" and the odds are less that a double play would follow.

Jason Kubel is the 2nd best clutch hitter on the D'backs. Miggy is not. As someone posted yesterday, we are in 1st place despite Kirk Gibson.

Quick. Someone send the Dodgers out there for a brawl. Chapman just nailed our guy up high on a two strike count. Isn't that a call to arms?

We still need some help here but does Chapman have a split personality or what? When he get into trouble he's like a completely different pitcher out there.

Oh well, at least we finally showed some life in this game. And, the Padres and Giants both lost.

Goldy: no RBi = loss...

Not trying to second guess Gibby, butt, I'm wondering why he didn't pinch hit for Kubel when the Reds brought in Parra. He had Prado on the bench and while he certainly hasn't been lighting it up, he would've been a better choice than the lefty lefty matchup Kubel presented... Runners on first and third too...

No one complained last night when Kubel got the game-winning hit off Chapman. They loss but won the series, that's what counts.

Of course... As for the game last night, Prado was already in the game...
I just think if you are trying to go lefty on lefty against Chapman and expect to be successful, on consecutive days, you're playing against some seriously unfavorable odds...
