Diamondbacks President to Step Down
September 6th, 2006 @ 12:01pm
by KTAR Newsroom
KTAR sports has learned that Diamondbacks team president Rich Dozer is stepping down at the end of this season.

Dozer resigned, he has been with the club since it's inception.

Named team president on March 9, 1995, the energetic Rich Dozer's unpretentious, open-door style has made the Diamondback front office one of the most comfortable and successful franchises in sports.

He is passionate about his work and compassionate to those in the community.

Dozer's role is not just about the team, but about community as well. He was the Chairman of the 2004 United Way Campaign, after serving as the 2000/2001 and 2001/2002 Chairman - Alexis de Tocqueville Society, Valley of the Sun United Way .

Rich and his wife Kari co-chaired the $4 million capital campaign for United Cerebral Palsy of Central, AZ. In 2003, they celebrated the opening of the Laura Dozer Center , built to serve the needs of families whose children suffer from various disabilities.

Two 'good acquaintances' who know him personally/professionally spoke very negatively about him in terms of ...well, his 'style' to avoid overstating it. That he's sort of a CYA kind of guy. They both disrespected him quite strongly.

I have heard something similar. You knew his days were numbered. They are getting rid of all Jerry's guys. I think you need to clean house and bring in your own personnel. Finally, if Girardi is not available I would love to see Chip Hale get a shot.

Unfortunately, Melvin isn't going anywhere.

Hall left the Dodgers in 2004 for a similar position with KB Home, a Fortune 500 company, before joining the D-Backs front office in May 2005.

Not one of JC's guys. A Moorad/Kendricks guy.

I can dream. I would love to see Hale manage this team because he has coached the younger guys. Hale is definitely not a laid back manager. He would probably get more out of the guys than Melvin has.

Replace "Hale" with "Pedrique" and we've heard all the same comments before.

Hale is not even close to Pedrique.

I like the idea of Hale, not sure how good he would be though. How much managing do you do in AAA? I mean, in fairness, that Sidewinders team was stacked this year, just stacked. Not that you should hold that against Chip, but just saying, not sure how his in game managerial skills are.

If Girardi becomes available he is my first choice.

Either Girardi or Hale is OK with me. Girardi will be Mgr of the Year. Will he be available, even with his differences with Marlins' top management?

Re: managing AAA vs MLB -- at the Major League level, there's much more public relations to the job. Chip Hale is a much, much, much more polished speaker than Melvin (who covers his mouth and picks his pimples when he talks, and plays down everything he himself says).

At the Minor League level, you wear many more hats, with a small Coaching staff, and get much more hands on experience.

Yes, Pedrique came up from Tucson, but he didn't have the personality for the Major League job (even though I supported him to replace Brenly and work with the BabyBacks).

Speaking of Brenly, with his Catching (handling pitchers) and predominantly National League experience, who expected he'd have one year of glory (thanks to RJ and Curt), but manage like an American League manager (everybody swing for the fences) and talk to his players through the Press?
