Freaking selfish Byrnes swings at two balls and pops up with the bases loaded. He has already stranded five runners and it's only the third inning. Can he be any more terrible than right now?

I'lladmit I had already pencilled an out for Byrnes. He needed that in a big way, as did the team. I'm hoping he can get out of this slump.

OK, I had JUST typed 'Don't you just hate to see Byrnes at bat?' LOL. I still hate to see him at the plate. He has such an ugly swing.

I don't think he's in a slump. I think he needs a checkup-from-the-neckup.

The worst part is the example he's setting for our young bats -- Reynolds, Upton and Young.

The occasional homerun (even with the bases loaded) that bounces off the left field railing and bounces into the stands is not worth the effect it has on the BabyBacks.

But, I must say, if Eric had left the bases loaded again during the game for a total of eight LOB early in the game, it might have forced the issue.

He's bought himself some time. Ironically, Young's HR also bounced off the railing.

We really could use this win...it would be a nice boost to win an out-of-division, road series vs. a quality opponent....This team has looked pretty bad outside of the NL West, which is back to being the worst division by far. :(

Byrnes practically fell over while swinging at that grand slam.

Good win, through.

Not looking good early as the Braves are up 5-1 in after two.

OK, this is the BoMel I know and detest: I have an idea! rather than sit a novice third-baseman who has a seriously iced-over bat, let's sit the guy whose bat was just starting to heat up again so one of my favorites, gimpy Chad Tracy, can start!

Tracy has looked fine. And it's his first game back. The last thing you do is make him play third right out of the gate. Let him spot start once or twice and then see how he's holding up. If he's doing well, put him at the more athletic third base position.

I don't have a problem with Melvin putting Tracy out there immediately. He's showing Tracy that he has confidence in him. (Instead of just making him rot on the bench like a lot of fans would rather Melvin do.)

It doesn't hurt to give Jackson a day off every once and awhile either.

This was Webbies first bad start of the season. The last loss wasnt really his fault. He just left too many pitches hanging over the plate to an opportunistic Braves team. Ohh well, time to beat on the Giants some more!!

Of course, that would open the door to another option. Move Reynolds to LF and have Brynes go to the DL (while he recuperates) or Tucson (where he can learn how to hit again).

Oh, that's right. Byrnes has a TV show. 'Must keep him in the lineup. :bang:

Bobby Cox has won 1 Championship in the 100 or so years he has been managing the Braves.

He had outstanding pitching staffs because of Leo Mazzone, his pitching coach.

And now he has an outstanding 3-4-5 middle of the lineup (much better than ours) and, with their win over the D'backs today, they've made it up to five games over .500. Not great.
