9-8 Padres but Tererro lays down a bunt to open the bottom of the 8th. That is 3 hits for him.

Counsell makes up for that big error and ties the game up.

Wild pitch makes it 10-9. Keep them coming.

When Clayton starts hitting clutch 2 run singles I'm sold.

I think we've gotten into the head of Otsuka. Before facing the Dbacks, he seemed almost unhittable but this series he's given up 6 runs without recording an out

12-9 lead as Bruney comes in for the 9th. This should be interesting. Let's hope the confident Bruney shows up.

Holy Crap! Greene smashes a triple and it's now 12-11. Bruney does not look like he wants to be out there.

Diamondbacks survive, 12-11. I hope Melvin gives Valverde a shot as the closer. He has the mentality of a closer, something Bruney seems like he doesn't have.

A win's a win but damn, the DBacks bullpen is freaking atrocious.

And Lyon's out indefinitely too!

Doesn't sound good right now for Lyon.

Fortunately for us the Padres' bullpen has been just as awful as ours.

Now win tomorrow so I can enjoy my team being in 1st place for more than a day

Yeah their BP has been terrible this series but has been great all year. This series is most likely a fluke for the Friars. With a couple exceptions, that cannot be said for the DBacks and now our best reliever has an arm problem that our own doctor is clueless about. Time to start calling other GMs and seeing what's out there. It's inevitable so there's no harm in asking around right now.

Any one know the status of Villareal or Aquino in Tucson?
And I agree with Valverde, if he's throwing strikes I like him over Bruney.

It is time to send Lopez back to Tucson where he belongs. He really has no business anywhere near an MLB uniform.

Aquino has started bullpen sessions and has reportedly responded well. He could be back somewhere around 2 weeks from now. Villareal, however, is nowhere near ready.

Anyone know how far Terrero's bomb was? Usually they announce those things, but this season the new Jumbotron/scoreboard guys seem a bit out of it.

For what little its worth, Bruney doesn't lack confidence - heck, that may be the problem - he never seems to think he's in trouble. He does have a closer mentality - just maybe not a closer arm.

Sports Weekly just profiled all 30 teams' closer situations - we're in the middle of the pack, many are in worse shape, and only about 3 teams have sure things. Heck - look at the Pod's - their BP is one of the best this year, but we got them, and I predict a little run of messes for them now.

Honestly, I don't know who you think you can get at a reasonable rate of exchange that will be CONSISTENTLY better - because remember, you aren't doing the picking or the dealing, Mao -- Joe " :barf: " Jr. is, and he cannot, I emphatically repeat, cannot pick relief pitchers.

Mantei, Witt, Springer, Sabel, Brohawn, Myers, Fetters, Oropesa, Parra, Randolph, Aybar, Villone, Botallico, Raggio, Reyes, Service, Fossum, Nance, Choate, Durbin, Fassero, Reynolds, Sparks, Villafuerte, Acevedo, Ligtenberg, Lopez.
I'll take a peek at our farm and see who is looking decent, because although I hate to rush them, we have typically done better on relievers from within.

I'd like to sit back and pray that the guys we have out there now can put it together. But there's only so much of a 5+ ERA bullpen that I can take. And right now, Cormier is the only guy on the active roster to fall below tht distinction. I'd love to promote some guys who can maybe get the job done but who are we talking about?

Murphy? Possibly, I don't see how he could be any worse that Lopez/

Medders? Doubtful, recently had torn labrum surgery (death sentence for 95% of pitchers)

Bulger? "closer of the future." But how well has that worked out for Valverde and Bruney?

You know the farm system way better than me Zen, so if there's anyone I'm missing anyone chime in. Fact remains that if the Lyon injury is as serious as the writing ont he wall says, we need BP help from somewhere. Let's just hope Moorad is in charge of choosing who it is. In the meantime though I'd like to see Valverde close. Bruney's fastball is as straight as an arrow and not that fast.

EDIT - And can anyone tell me WTF happened to the guy we got for Hillenbrand? He was the Blue Jays' "closer of the future" a couple years back.

In BA They say Bulger is "raw despite being 26" But they also say 'He'll see the majors by september at the latest"
