Strange game. 0-10 RISP and both runs were on ground outs. Parra throws two out from RF. Wins a win.

Will take the win. First Base Blue tried hard to get the PHillies to win.

Didi, Goldy and Parra - Gold Glovers

I haven't checked lately, but the Dbacks either lead all of MLB, or they are right at the top in terms of fielding percentage. But Didi, Goldy and Parra are definitely well on their way toward gold glove seasons!!

G. Parra cf ............. .307
D. Gregorius ss ....... .422
P. Goldschmidt 1b .... .312
E. Chavez 3b ........... .275
C. Ross rf ............... .282
J. Kubel lf ............... .269
M. Prado 2b ............. .234
M. Montero .............. .198

I like this lineup that Gibby has put together for Game 2 vs. the Phillies.

Chavez is a good hitter as long as he is not overworked. Kubel batting sixth extends the heart of the order. And all expectations have now been removed from Miggy. For the time being, he's just a weak hitting Catcher batting eighth. But I haven't given up on him. He'll be back.

5 in a row, 6 of the last 7. Miggy hits the game deciding HR off the right field foul pole.

Did I mention we are still tied for 1st place (assuming Giants hold their 6 run lead).

Sometimes Goldy is maddening when he watches meatballs down the middle. Quickly goes 0-2 in 1st at bat and then pops out to 1st. Not ragging on him, just feel like he needs to be a little more aggressive at home. Heard a stat the other day he's only hitting .230ish at home with a slugging percentage in the low .300 area?

I get a little frustrated by this too. He seems to be a great 2 strike hitter.

It seems like he almost never swings at the first pitch and the pitchers know this.

They do, but he seems to get his pitch with 2 strikes and has been doing very well with it.

Right after I wrote this he swings at the first pitch and hits a single.
The thing about taking the first pitch is that more often than not it's the best pitch you'll see.

We'll never know if this would have made a difference or not, but the called third strike on Miggy in the 8th, an absolutely horrible call, effectively spelled the end for us.

I'm 2 days late, but I have to vent about Prado, and in Thursday's(?) game, bottom of the 8th, loaded bases 3-1 count to a pitcher that just walked Miggy on 4, swinging wildly at a high one, then popping out. Serious WTF even contemplating a swing there, surely. With a 1-run lead, I found that to be incredibly dumb baseball

Glad that's off my chest :D

This team is 21-17 and 1 game out. They are currently the wild card. What's amazing is that they are missing 4 key players that we all thought they needed to win.

Eaton, Hill, Prado and Mendoza.

Righty today!

Arizona Diamondbacks (.119 BA vs. LHP – 28th)

Arizona is in the mix in the National League West thanks to great two-way baseball. The Diamondbacks rank eighth in team ERA (3.43) and 10th in runs per game, averaging 4.62 runs on .251 hitting. The offensive production takes a serious dip versus lefties.

The D-backs have totaled just 20 of their overall 97 runs off left-handed hurlers (20.6 percent) which has led to a dismal 3-8 record against LH starters, costing Arizona bettors -2.51 units. It’s also proved profitable for under bettors, with the club going 2-6 over/under when taking on a southpaw starter.

I can't think of a single player that hits well vs Leftys. Even Goldy hits better against rightys.

edit: OK I checked. Pollack is slightly better vs leftys (2 doubles last night!) and Ross has been considerably better vs leftys his entire career.

Yeah, that one hurt. And last night with 2 on, 2 out in the bottom of the 9th and 2 strikes I would liked to have seen Pollack take a swing trying to ensure contact instead of swinging so hard he about came out of his cleats. Who knows what would happen if he just tried to put the ball into play instead of taking a home run swing.

Well they did have the tying run in scoring position in the 9th only to strike out 2 times in a row to a guy that was only throwing fastballs. If those guys were just looking to put the ball in play instead of trying to be a hero than that may have changed the game as well.

What a play by Didi in Sunday's 1st inning. Running home from 3B on a ground ball, he would have been an easy out at the plate.

You could see that he was in total control as he shuffled his feet back to 3B. When the Catcher threw to 3B, Didi turned on the speed heading back and avoided the tag with a head first slide. His baseball instincts are amazing!

Between that and his fielding and throwing from SS, it won't be long until he is recognized as one of the most exciting players in baseball. That's not even mentioning his team leading .370 batting average. And he is all ours.
