D-backs: Webb was on top of his game on Wednesday for the second straight outing . The right-hander allowed just six hits over seven scoreless innings against the Giants at Chase Field, as the D-backs won, 1-0. In his start before that, Webb allowed just one unearned run over eight innings in a 5-1 Arizona win. Webb walked just one and struck out eight while allowing four hits, and he is riding a three-game win streak.

Yankees: Wang's sinker was "exploding" Wednesday, according to manager Joe Torre, and his slider wasn't too bad either. Wang mixed his pitches well, throwing in some curves to complement his explosive slider and shut down the White Sox. He notched his third career complete game and the team's first complete-game victory since Wang did it last July. He gave up just five hits and struck out four in the outing, needing just 104 pitches to get through the game.

D-backs: Hernandez gave up three runs on five hits in seven innings of a no-decision Thursday against the Giants. He also walked two and struck out two. Hernandez gave up all three runs and four of the five hits in a rough third inning, but besides that he kept the Giants in check. He left the game in line for his sixth victory before Jose Valverde blew the save.

Yankees: Mike Mussina had one of his best outings in his previous start, a no-decision against the White Sox on June 7. After struggling with his command earlier in the season, Mussina allowed a run on four hits over six-plus innings and walked none at U.S. Cellular Field.

D-backs: Davis struggled mightily with his command in his last start against the Red Sox. The left-hander allowed five runs on six hits over four innings and suffered the loss as Arizona fell, 10-3. Davis walked five and struck out two. The poor outing snapped a string of three very good starts for Davis, who had allowed just four runs in 22 2/3 innings in that span.

Yankees: Pettitte worked around nine hits and four runs in eight innings of work against the Pirates on Friday, but had to settle for a no-decision. The veteran struck out five and walked one, and also gave up two home runs -- one of them a two-run, inside-the-park homer to center fielder Chris Duffy.

The Yankees also played two of the worst teams in the Majors during their 6 game win streak...

Well said...

The D-backs don't possess nearly enough offense to keep up with the Yanks... Their only shred of hope is that their pitching throws lights out games, and the Yankees pitching collapses... Highly remote of course, but possible.

Wow, what a wasted opportunity. Both Byrnes and Tracy were pathetic at the plate there with runners on the corners. Why is Tracy hitting 5th?!

A better question may be why is Byrnes hitting 4th? He was doing so well leading off, it seems weird to move him to the 4 hole. Not that CY didn't do a good job, but its more of Melvins shuffling which I don't like.

Ouch. Wanna bet the Yankees don't screw it up? Without the error, two outs. With the error, runners on the corners, no outs.

Also, why in the world was Drew going to cover second with Jeter at the plate?

Just like that, game over.

Edit: Obviously not over, but you know what I mean...

OK, so I am venting, but this was/is the best chance for a DBacks win in this series. The DBacks screw up their half at the plate, and screw up their half in the field as well. Frickin' Abreu?! Disgusting.

So, 3-0 instead of 1-0 nothing. Need to score right here and now to get some confidence back - in me at least. :)

Because Damon was trying to steal so he had to cover it. Jeter was batting lefty Hudson had to stay where he was.

This sucks.

Are you sure he was hitting left? Hmm, I coulda sworn he was hitting right, but I am trying to do several things at once here...

Wow. That was terrible, Quentin! He looked like a little leaguer up there!

This offense, outside of two, maybe three, players, is just anemic. Cmon, give me a reason watch!
