D-backs: Webb was on top of his game on Wednesday for the second straight outing . The right-hander allowed just six hits over seven scoreless innings against the Giants at Chase Field, as the D-backs won, 1-0. In his start before that, Webb allowed just one unearned run over eight innings in a 5-1 Arizona win. Webb walked just one and struck out eight while allowing four hits, and he is riding a three-game win streak.
Yankees: Wang's sinker was "exploding" Wednesday, according to manager Joe Torre, and his slider wasn't too bad either. Wang mixed his pitches well, throwing in some curves to complement his explosive slider and shut down the White Sox. He notched his third career complete game and the team's first complete-game victory since Wang did it last July. He gave up just five hits and struck out four in the outing, needing just 104 pitches to get through the game.
D-backs: Hernandez gave up three runs on five hits in seven innings of a no-decision Thursday against the Giants. He also walked two and struck out two. Hernandez gave up all three runs and four of the five hits in a rough third inning, but besides that he kept the Giants in check. He left the game in line for his sixth victory before Jose Valverde blew the save.
Yankees: Mike Mussina had one of his best outings in his previous start, a no-decision against the White Sox on June 7. After struggling with his command earlier in the season, Mussina allowed a run on four hits over six-plus innings and walked none at U.S. Cellular Field.
D-backs: Davis struggled mightily with his command in his last start against the Red Sox. The left-hander allowed five runs on six hits over four innings and suffered the loss as Arizona fell, 10-3. Davis walked five and struck out two. The poor outing snapped a string of three very good starts for Davis, who had allowed just four runs in 22 2/3 innings in that span.
Yankees: Pettitte worked around nine hits and four runs in eight innings of work against the Pirates on Friday, but had to settle for a no-decision. The veteran struck out five and walked one, and also gave up two home runs -- one of them a two-run, inside-the-park homer to center fielder Chris Duffy.
