I caught the very end where Gammons I thought said the Diamondbacks could trade Quentin to Toronto for Miguel Batista. Is that true? Please tell me I heard differently. If they trade Carlos this organization will definitely hear it from the fans.

especially for a player that formerly played for us and who we never should have let go in the first place (imo)

Red Sock Pete was purely speculating, not starting a rumor. The trade he proposed was Scott Schoewenweis and Miguel Batista for Dustin Nippert, Valverde, and Carlos Quentin.

Here is a question, why?

Yep - Gammons being the wannabe puppeteer.

He 'suggested' we could trade Carlos, Nippert and was it Valverde? -someone else I didn't quite catch, for Schoenweiss and Miggy. After I got my heartbeat back down - I doubt it'll happen, don't you? Much as I'd crow at having Miggy back (for a lesser price) think about it - Can you see Joe admitting he let him go to save mere peanuts, couldn't replace him over two years, and now has to trade a potential franchise player to get him back? I really don't see that. And God, hope not! Now, if Hairston, Nippert, and Cintron or Hill would work for two decent relievers, maybe so.

Because weakening the Blue Jays would help the Red Sox win the wild card.

I agree with the guys Zenny says are expendable and I would add Chad Tracy to that list. Conor's going to start his major league career September 1 anyways so I don't see much harm in speeding the process up a month or so if Tony Clark continues to rake.

IF this team was leading the league I'd trade Quentin for an ace reliever or starter at the deadline if I thought it really gave us a legit chance to win it all. That is after all why they play the games.

That however is oviously not the case.

Now if the Dbacks can make a trade to improve the team without giving up one of the Big 4.

It's nothing more than one of the usual pathetic/unfounded meanderings by Gammons who pretty much lacks any credibility... It always appears that he concocts these rumors for attention/shock value rather than thinking all the logistics through....

I agree with what everyone has posted in this thread and I must add another factor that makes this all senseless...

The Blue Jays are still in contention in the AL East and for over at least the past 3-yrs they've had difficulty finding a reliable closer...What would possess them to trade away Batista when he's been filling in that role quite decently and then Schoenweiss gives them some stability...I dont think Frasor is ready to become their full-time closer and of course we all know that if Valverde was actually included in that package to replace Batista as their closer ..that the Blue Jays would be acquiring an unproven for someone who has proven themselves..... Again.... Gammons must think with his brain rather than his mouth.....
