They (Shien & Gannon) were discussing the firing of the Bears GM. I almost drove off the road when they mentioned the two organization that the Bears need to look at to improve: The Ravens and the Arizona Cardinals! They specifically mentioned Steve Kiem and said we were two organizations that have handled the draft the right way in recent years. However, they did not mention Rod Graves.

Well if you look at our past 5 years of drafts only 7 players are currently not in the NFL. We have 23 picks out of 35 still with the team and 5 picks are currently playing on other squards (DRC, Hightower, Alan Branch, Cody Brown, and Stevie B) 'correct me if I'm wrong with that.' I would say Kiem and company have done an outstanding job of scouting and finding talent and the organization has done a great job following up with that and drafting quality nfl players.

Steve Kiem may be on the radar as a GM for some other team. It would be a big loss to the Cards as Graves is very much hands off on watching film and studying players. I would rather keep Kiem and have Graves leave.

Do you think that Graves is on the radar of other teams? If not what a shame. would love to see him go.

The Cardinals have done a very good job drafting defensively, there is no doubting that.

Home Grown:
Adrian Wilson
Patrick Peterson
Greg Toler
Daryl Washington
O'Brien Schofield
Sam Acho
Dan Williams
Calais Campbell
Darnell Dockett

All, but two positions on the field. Impressive.

Ever since Denny Green was hired, Graves learned something and the drafts have been pretty good. I give Graves credit for that. Now about keeping those home grown guys past their first contract.........we'll see.

Steve Kiem is highly respected in the NFL and will probably get a GM look in the near future, hopefully by the Cardinals.

I'm sorry, but how do you know that? I'm not necessarily disagreeing with you, but I've never seen that written anywhere. He spent a decade as a scout (including director of college scouting) for the Bears before he joined the Cardinals.

Rob Rang had an article a couple months back about top future GM candidates, and Kiem was on the list. There also have been other scattered comments about his abilities as a talent evaluator that have come up on the internet. Getting info on good potential GM candidates can be very tough, so the fact that you hear his name at all means he is well known.

I'm not questioning Kiem. I've been hearing his name surfacing for the past two years as a GM candidate for a couple of jobs.

My questions was about Rod Graves not being known watch film on people. I agree that in his current position as GM, he would naturally watch less than any of our scouts would; however, the way az jam phrased his post, it made appears he is implying that Rod Graves doesn't watch film in evaluating players.

A. I've never heard that before (other than message board grumbling - which I tend to ignore).

B. That would totally shock me, given Graves has nearly 30 years experience in professional football, a good portion of which was as a scout and scouting director.

If there was an article that mentioned this though, I'm interested in reading it.

Go Cards!!!

That there are a lot of recent draft picks on the field is really not uncommon. The woeful 2003 Defense had 9 guys of the 13 listed as defensive starters by profootball-reference.com who were drafted by Arizona.

The big difference is in the talent level of those you listed compared to the 2003 players.

Honestly, I think the embarrassment of Whiz's first draft has helped him draft better and smarter.

Watching Levi Brown do, what ever it is he calls what he does, and then watching Adrian Peterson run all over the place every week must be a constant reminder to draft BPA.

Partick Peterson shows that.

And I hope that type of drafting continues this year, with the team's 1st round pick. A lot of pressure will be on the Cardinals with this pick since they don't have a 2nd round pick. Thus the temptation to draft for need will be greater, but the opportunity to just go BPA is there at the spot the Cardinals will be at. Though I agree OT is a glaring need, if the Cardinals go BPA in the draft there will be a player available that will greatly help this team next year, even if it is not at the OT position.

I agree with you about OT vs Best Player. The Cards went to the SuperBowl with Mike Gandy at LT. No more reaching in the first round.

I think that Mike Jurecki reported it last offseason. No one ever disputed it.
