Huh? So your saying that Nash and Amare are in fact not two of the most talented players at their respective positions and are products of D'Antoni's system? You can't be serious. Even Marion is proving to be just as productive in Miami without the Suns system. Sorry but a system will only do so much for a player. If the player doesn't have the raw talent, even the best of systems won't make a lick of difference.

So specifically by position which Laker players would you rather have? Kobe is a given.

Check again, marions FG% is down 5+% with the heat(52.6% to 47%) his scoring and rebounding are the same, but 5% is a big dropoff. If you think amare would be shooting 58% without steve Nash, well, I just say no comment. Joe Johnsons FG% is down 5% as a hawk as well. Its not the points, but how hard you are to stop(FG defense) that impresses me. JJ shoots 41%, which is well below the NBA star level for a '2' scoring 20ppg. I doubt marion will ever shoot 50% FG's again in his career.

Isn't it kinda funny that the 04-05 and 05-06 coaches of the year are now seen as jokes and questioned on there ability to actually coach. I think that award is a complete joke.

Or maybe it's just that the message board "specialists" of 25+ teams are calling their coach the biggest joke ever.

His FG% is going to drop because he get's fewer easier baskets without Nash next to him. The fact that his scoring average is the same along with his other stats is amazing. That proves my point. Read my post again. You said it was the system. I am arguing it has more to do with the players. So Nash to me and is raw talent has much more to do with players getting better numbers when they get here versus D'Antoni's system.

With the exception of a couple players on the Lakers I prefer our talent. I think D'Antoni's system and his coaching is preventing this team from taking it to the next level.

Your point should remind us that the award is for the coach OF THE YEAR.

Everything from a performance people didn't expect . . . to . . . a novel approach . . . to . . . the strongest team.

It doesn't guarantee that it will sustain once the team is no longer under the radar. And it doesn't guarantee the the league execs and refs (and ASFN die-hard Suns fans) will not notice the flaws in the less glitzy aspects.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Referring to the Suns and Mavs leads to another point. They, along with the Utah Jazz, seem to adhere to the philosophy that "good enough is good enough".

In Salt Lake, a one-team town, it works. For the decades that Phoenix was a one-team town, it worked.

But in Dallas and now Phoenix (with its four Major League teams), sports is more cosmopolitan. "Good enough is not good enough."

Winning 50 or 60 consistently, then fading in the playoffs season after season, leaves a bad taste.

Playing people out of position -- Shaq as a high-post Center; Amare and Diaw as Centers; Marion as a Power Forward; small Guards at the 2-spot -- can't keep up with the power teams of the league. Not during the stretch run and certainly not during the post-season.

So take Coach of the Year for what it is. Recognition for a one-time performance.

And, once again, the soft triad of the Suns, Mavs and Jazz will be out-muscled by the league, the refs and the power teams.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

And the potential of Stockton-Malone, Nash-Novitsky and Nash-Amare will never produce the team results that it should from beginning to end.

Because of the "Coach of the Year".
